RHP Tyler Duffey got the loss Wednesday against the Angels after giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks (one intentional) in 4 1/3 innings. Duffey didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, but an error by SS Eduardo Nunez got the inning started and resulted in two unearned runs. "First time through (the lineup) was good," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "(But) he's pitching with a lot of emotion out there. Sometimes it works for him, sometimes against him. It seems like those middle innings he starts, you can see the emotion building. I think he needs to learn how to use it positively instead of negatively. You got to keep in control even though you're competing at such a high level, and I think sometimes that works against him."

Sun May 15 201619:02Twins take first road series
CLEVELAND -- The Minnesota Twins came to Cleveland for a three-game series, lugging a seven-game losing streak. They lost the first game Friday night, making it eight losses in a row, but they rallied to win the games Saturday and Sunday to win their first road series of the season. The Twins are now 4-16 on the road, and two of the four wins are against Cleveland. In games against AL Central teams the Twins are 4-2 vs. Cleveland and 0-12 against everyone else."It's nice to come back and win these last two games after losing on Friday," Twins manager Paul Molitor said after the Twins' 5-1 win on Sunday. "Usually starting pitching dictates whether you win or lose and Tyler (Duffey) was very good today. He had to pitch around some base runners, but he put up seven zeros."The Twins are still in last place in the Central Division, and for them to make some progress they are going to need better starting pitching. Entering Sunday's game, the Twins ranked 13th in the American League with a starters' ERA of 4.92. Duffey lowered that slightly by pitching seven shutout innings. In four starts since his recall from Triple-A Rochester, Duffey is 1-2 with a 1.85 ERA.In their two wins in Cleveland, Twins starting pitchers Duffey and Ervin Santana combined to pitch 13 innings, allowing one run on 11 hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.More starts like that from their starters will go a long way toward helping the Twins climb out of the early-season hole they've dug for themselves.
