Twins recalled C Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester.
His recall was expected, but most figured it would be to replace Justin Morneau (wrist). Instead Sean Burroughs has been designated for assignment. Butera's presence will allow manager Ron Gardenhire to use Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit at other positions more freely.

Tue May 1 201213:17Twins plan to recall C Butera from minors
Updating a previous item, the Twins plan to recall catcher Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester for Tuesday's game.
The Twins have yet to announce a corresponding roster move, but this would seem to indicate that Justin Morneau (wrist) is likely headed for the disabled list. While Butera can be ignored in fantasy leagues, his presence will allow Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire to have both Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit in the lineup at the same time.

Twins optioned C Drew Butera to Triple-A Rochester.
The epitome of a glove-first catcher, Butera was one of the worst hitters in baseball that earned over 250 plate appearances in 2011. Minnesota will likely go with Ryan Doumit as their part-time first baseman and backup to Joe Mauer. The Twins also reassigned infielder Mike Hollimon to minor league camp.

Mon Apr 18 201122:04Butera has rare offensive outburst
Drew Butera provided the Twins with some rare offense on Monday evening, going 2-for-4 with three RBI in a win over the Orioles.
He doubled in two runs in the second inning before tagging Kevin Gregg for an RBI single in the ninth. Coming into tonight, Butera had just 14 RBI in 157 career at-bats, and can be expected to remain similarly inept with the bat filling in for Joe Mauer going forward.
