Ziegler struck out one and pitched a perfect ninth inning en route to his 18th save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Astros on Friday.
Ziegler has been fantastic since taking over the closer's role. Since June 3, Ziegler has allowed just one run and has gone 14-for-14 in save opportunities. A 1.18 ERA and 0.85 WHIP are elite ratio's, but the lone bugaboo is the low strikeout total, as he has only 28 K's in 45.2 innings. The ratio's counter the low strikeouts and the high groundball rate allows him to be so effective as a closer.

Ziegler recorded his 17th save Sunday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning, recording two strikeouts and giving up a walk, against Milwaukee.
Ziegler has been a very pleasant surprise for the Diamondbacks since moving into the closer role. He has blown just two saves while posting excellent ratios. Owners who got him cheap earlier this year are reaping the rewards.

Ziegler allowed two hits and a walk, but picked up his 16th save without allowing a run Saturday against the Brewers.
Ziegler allowed Milwaukee to load the bases with two outs, but struck out Gerardo Parra to end the game. The 35-year-old's hold on the closer role seems pretty secure at the moment, as he is now 16-for-18 on save chances in 2015.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Ziegler probably won't be available Tuesday or Wednesday, Zach Buchanan of azcentral.com reports.
Ziegler needed 40 pitches to get a five-out save in Monday's 3-1 win over the Marlins, striking out two batters and allowing a walk along the way. Each of his other saves this season required just three outs, and the 40 pitches were the most he's thrown in a game since 2011. The Diamondbacks will likely go with a matchup-based approach if a save situation arises Tuesday or Wednesday, with Oliver Perez and Randall Delgado the best bets to pick up a save.

Ziegler picked up a five-out save Monday against the Marlins, as he struck out two and allowed just one baserunner, via a walk.
Ziegler has been fantastic all year and lowered his ERA to 1.08 with the performance. With 40 pitches thrown in the outing, he might be unavailable for a day or two. It was his first attempt at a save over three outs on the season and Ziegler looked brilliant, but it's hard to imagine Arizona manager Chip Hale using a 35-year-old closer for more than an inning too many times over the rest of the season.

Ziegler had a strikeout in a perfect ninth to pick up the save Wednesday against the Rangers.
Ziegler picked up his 14th save of the season in 16 chances, using only seven pitches to do so. For the season, the 35-year-old has a 1.18 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB ratio in 38 innings.

Ziegler walked one and struck out a pair during a scoreless inning of work to earn his 12th save of the season Sunday against the Padres.
The veteran has now converted 10 straight save opportunities and has lowered his season ERA to 1.41, cementing his status as the top closer option for a resurgent Diamondbacks team.

Ziegler struck out one in a perfect ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
Ziegler is now 11-for-13 in save chances this season and has now converted nine in a row. Despite having only 16 strikeouts in 31 innings this season, the groundballer has an impressive 1.45 ERA and 0.94 WHIP.
Sat Jun 20 201510:49Ziegler picked up 10th save of season Friday against San Diego
Ziegler picked up his 10th save of the season Friday against San Diego. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing a walk, a double, and striking out one.
Ziegler's continues to be Arizona's most effective reliever and has a firm grip on the closer role. It is worth noting, however, that he has only one clean appearance in his last seven trips to the mound. The extreme groundballer can be very effective, but without put away stuff, he can be prone to rough patches if he stops getting the routine grounders on which he makes his living. His 3.97 FIP tells you that he is getting a bit fortunate, so keep an eye on his next few outings for signs that his luck is changing.

Ziegler pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his ninth save of the season Wednesday against the Angels.
Ziegler picked up his ninth save in 10 tries and lowered his ERA to 1.55 for the season. He also has an impressive 0.93 WHIP, but his 14 strikeouts in 29 innings leaves more to be desired.
Sun Jun 14 201512:50Ziegler tossed scoreless ninth inning against Giants on Saturday...
Ziegler tossed a scoreless ninth inning against the Giants on Saturday night to record his eighth save of the season.
Although Ziegler has not missed bats very often (14 strikeouts in 28 innings this season), he continues to get an extremely high number of his outs on the ground (4.67 G/F). The ratios have been excellent (1.61 ERA, 0.929 WHIP), so there's little incentive for manager Chip Hale to go back to Addison Reed at the present time.

Ziegler pitched a perfect ninth inning Friday to pick up his seventh save of the season in a 1-0 win over the Giants.
Ziegler continues to be effective, converting his fourth straight save. The only worry is the home-run ball and his low strikeout rate. The only two runs he's allowed in the last month have come on solo homers, and he's also failed to record a strikeout since May 22. That said, it appears he has the closer role locked up for the time being.

Ziegler picked up his sixth save of the season Saturday, allowing just one hit in a 2-1 win over the Mets.
He got into a bit of a jam, giving up a one-out single and then gaining another baserunner due to catcher's interference, but Ziegler pitched out of it, throwing first-pitch strikes to every batter he faced and inducing a game-ending double play. He's been effective since taking over for Addison Reed in the ninth inning, recording six saves in seven chances. Despite the general prejudice against sidearm closers, it appears that Ziegler's secured the role for now despite manager Chip Hale's recent indication that Reed is close to regaining his job.

Ziegler pitched a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against Atlanta to pick up his fourth save of the season. He allowed one hit in the outing.
Ziegler has been Arizona's best reliever all season, posting a 1.50 ERA and 0.96 WHIP to go along with his handful of saves. He doesn't strike out many batters, but his ability to keep batted balls on the ground ensures he is effective. It's possible the D-Backs will go back to Addison Reed at some point, but Ziegler remains the closer for now.

Ziegler allowed a run in the ninth inning Friday, but picked up his third save of the season.
Ziegler has been Arizona's best reliever this year, posting a 1.59 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. Despite not posting big strikeout numbers, he is getting 3.64 ground balls for every fly ball he gives up and locking down saves for D-Backs. He should hold onto the closer role for the foreseeable future.

Ziegler gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks Wednesday, taking the loss and the blown save against the Cardinals.
He gave up a game-tying home run to Jason Heyward and then after a few runners reached, Matt Carpenter scored from third base on a throwing error by catcher Jordan Pacheco to win the game in walk-off fashion. Ziegler needs to save games in order to be a fantasy asset, as he does not miss many bats (14 strikeouts in 21.2 innings), so nights like Wednesday are pretty unfortunate. It was just his second blown save of the season and his ERA sits at a very respectable 1.25, so it would seem that he would still be used in save chances going forward, at least in the short term.

Ziegler allowed just one hit during a scoreless ninth on Sunday against the Cubs to earn his second save of the season.
It was just his second save opportunity since being placed in the closer's role, but Ziegler now holds a stellar 0.86 ERA through 21 innings and is the clear-cut relief pitcher to own in Arizona.

Ziegler recorded his first save of the year Thursday, striking out two Marlins in a perfect ninth.
It only took him nine pitches to nail it down, and that should send fantasy owners running to the waiver wire, as Ziegler should be heavily involved in the Arizona closing mix moving forward. Rookie Enrique Burgos may have picked up a couple saves of his own this week, but both of those came with Ziegler unavailable.

Ziegler could see some save opportunities with Addison Reed moved out of the closer role.
Ziegler has been one of the few effective relievers for the D-Backs this year, posting a 1.17 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 15.1 innings, and he has some closing experience - he saved 13 of 15 chances in 2013. Manager Chip Hale hasn't announced a plan for how he will handle closing duties during Reed's demotion, but Ziegler might be the best choice.

Ziegler pitched his ninth straight scoreless appearance Tuesday in a 5-4 loss to the Rockies.
Ziegler has only allowed two base runners in 8.2 innings pitched this year. He doesn't overwhelm hitters (just two strikeouts), but he gets tons of groundballs that the D-Backs have been converting into outs in the early going.
