Sat Feb 6 202119:26Elvis leaving Texas: Rangers deal Andrus to A's for DH Davis
Elvis is leaving Texas. Veteran infielder Elvis Andrus was traded to the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, just over two months after the Texas Rangers said the only player remaining from their only two World Series appearances would no longer be the starting shortstop after 12 seasons in that role. Texas sent the 32-year-old Andrus, catcher Aramis Garcia and $13.5 million to the A's for designated hitter Khris Davis, catcher Jonah Heim and right-hander Dane Acker. “At the beginning it was a little shock but at the same time I understood what was going on in our (Texas) organization, they’re rebuilding and that process," Andrus said. "When I found out, the opportunity playing for Oakland opened up, it makes sense for me for my career, for where I’m at right now.” Andrus is owed $14 million in each of the next two seasons. The $120 million, eight-season deal he signed in 2015 also includes a $15 million option for 2023 that now, because of the trade, becomes a player option if he has 550 plate... [More]

Andrus, who made his MLB debut with the Rangers at age 20 in 2009, is owed $28.5 million over the next two seasons. The A's recently lost shortstop Marcus Semien to Toronto in free agency. The Rangers said in December that Gold Glove-winning third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa would be given the opportunity to be their starting shortstop next season. They told Andrus then to prepare to play all infield positions. The 33-year-old Davis led the majors with 48 home runs in 2018. He has hit .243 with 218 homers and 580 RBIs in 938 big league games for the A’s (2016-20) and the Milwaukee Brewers (2013-15). Tue Dec 1 202018:07Rangers plan for Kiner-Falefa to be starting SS over Andrus
The Texas Rangers will give Gold Glove-winning third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa the opportunity to be their starting shortstop next season and have told Elvis Andrus to prepare to play all infield positions. Andrus, at 32 the longest-tenured Ranger after 12 seasons, is the only player remaining from their back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. Manager Chris Woodward said Tuesday that the Rangers wanted to give both Kiner-Falefa and Andrus clarity on the plans so they would know how to approach their offseason workouts. “This wasn’t an easy decision based on what Elvis has done for the organization. We’ve had many discussions about this. But I think it comes down to, do we believe in Kiner as a shortstop? I want to see it. I want to answer that question,” Woodward said. “Can he handle the position? I believe he can.” Woodward said Kiner-Falefa still had to earn the starting spot at shortstop, and has told Andrus he would have the opportunity to “prove us wrong." Andrus played... [More]
Mon Sep 28 202015:38Rangers rebuilding while their new stadium hosting playoffs
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Playoff games and the World Series will be played this October in the new Texas Rangers ballpark. The home team is far from being part of the postseason festivities. In this most unusual of seasons, delayed and abbreviated by the pandemic and now with most of the MLB playoffs at neutral sites, the Rangers got to play only 30 home games, and without fans, in the debut season of the $1.2 billion stadium with a retractable roof that was constructed over 2 1/2 years. They are now early in the process of another major rebuilding project. This one will be much more cost conscious and has no certain timeline. On the final day of a 22-38 season, the Rangers had three 22-year-old rookies in the starting lineup — center fielder Leody Taveras, shortstop Anderson Tejeda and catcher Sam Huff. Shin-Soo Choo, in a farewell appearance at the end of a $130 million, seven-year contract, was the only player over 26. “I think it’s the start of something. It’s a beginning,” second-year... [More]
Tue Sep 15 202006:13Aging Elvis: Back issues, questions about future as Texas SS
Elvis Andrus was once that kid for the Texas Rangers, the 20-year-old shortstop whose big league debut forced one of the franchise's most popular players to change positions. Andrus is now 32, and his 12th season is done because of lingering lower back issues. That has raised questions about his future as shortstop of the Rangers, at a time when they are taking an extended look at so many of their young players.“I have done it, and I have more experience. If I get my body 100%, I’m there. I have no limitations in my mind that I can still be a productive player," Andrus said. “I know there is a lot left in my tank and I am not done. I know a lot of people want to see me go away, but not yet.”The longest-tenured Texas player, and the only one remaining from the franchise's consecutive World Series appearances a decade ago, is still owed $28.5 million over the next two seasons. But he has to be healthy, and better at the plate. When asked if he saw Andrus as the starting shortstop for Texas... [More]
