Sun Apr 10 202216:31Trevor Story Out With Illness On Sunday
Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story (illness) is not part of the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against Jordan Montgomery and the New York Yankees. Jonathan Arauz is getting the start at second base and batting ninth in the game. Story is dealing with a non-COVID illness and it sounds like a minor illness. Red Sox manager Alex Cora stated that he hopes it is just a 24-hour type of thing for Story. Cora made it sound as if there's a chance that Story will be available for the team's next game against the Detroit Tigers on Monday. Story has gotten off to a slow start to his first season with the Sox. He went just 1-for-8 with a double, a walk and two strikeouts over his first two games.

Fri Apr 8 202211:30Trevor Story Hitting Sixth In Red Sox Debut
Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story is starting at second base and hitting sixth in the batting order in his regular season debut with the Red Sox on Opening Day on Friday against New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole. Story hit mostly third in his final season with the Colorado Rockies. The 29-year-old power speed threat will still have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs in this potent Boston lineup, and he'll also gain second base eligibility for fantasy managers in 2022. Moving away from hitter-friendly Coors Field is a downer, but Story shouldn't be downgraded all that much in his new home as a top-five fantasy shortstop.

Wed Mar 30 202214:12Trevor Story Likely To Hit Sixth This Year
Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story is likely to hit sixth in his first season with the team, a spot in the order he hasn't hit in since 2018. Outfielder Enrique Hernandez will likely lead off, followed by Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Alex Verdugo against right-handed starters. Devers' career OPS in the two-hole is .911, better than any other spot in the lineup. Against lefties, he'll drop lower in the order, potentially to cleanup. Story is a candidate to his second against southpaws. A lower spot in the order will mean fewer at-bats for Story, but he'll also have plenty of chances to drive in runs in Boston's potent lineup, and manager Alex Cora will give him more free reign on the base paths. Despite leaving Coors Field, Story will still be a top-five fantasy shortstop in 2022.

Tue Mar 29 202213:30Trevor Story To Make Spring Debut Wednesday
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that second baseman Trevor Story will make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves and also play Friday and Saturday. Story will be ready for Opening Day despite signing late and leaving the team last weekend to be with his wife for the birth of their child. The 29-year-old is leaving hitter-friendly Coors Field, but Fenway Park isn't a bad hitter's park either, and he'll be in an even better lineup in Boston. Second base eligibility in fantasy won't hurt, and despite a somewhat disappointing season by his standards in 2021, Story remains a top-five fantasy shortstop due to his power-speed combination.

Sun Mar 27 202210:10Trevor Story Expected To Return Monday
The Boston Red Sox expect second baseman Trevor Story to be back in camp on Monday after leaving the team recently to be with his wife, who was giving birth to the couple's child. With a shortened spring training, manager Alex Cora expects to give Story some early season off days once the season begins. The 29-year-old has yet to make his Grapefruit League debut after signing with the Red Sox late, giving him little time to get up to speed for the 2022 season. Story is leaving one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in the majors, but he'll be gaining second base eligibility and will be hitting in the middle of a much more deadly lineup in Boston. He's also still a very lethal power-speed threat and is ranked No. 3 among fantasy shortstop at RotoBaller.

Sat Mar 26 202210:15Trevor Story Away From The Team
Boston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story was set to make his spring training debut with the team on Saturday, but it will be pushed back a few days after he left camp to be with his wife for the birth of their child, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. Story's six-year deal with the team was made official earlier this week. The 29-year-old's late signing means he doesn't have a whole lot of time to get up to speed in Grapefruit League games, but he should be ready to go for Opening Day. Story will have eligibility at shortstop and second base in 2022 in fantasy, and he'll still have plenty of fantasy value despite leaving hitter-friendly Coors Field. He should be a lock to hit 20-plus home runs, drive in plenty of runs in Boston's strong lineup and steal 20-plus bags.

Sun Mar 20 202210:16Trevor Story Agrees With Red Sox
Free-agent shortstop Trevor Story reportedly has agreed to a deal with the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal later confirmed the deal is for six years and $140 million. Three other teams, including the San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros and New York Yankees, were finalists for Story's services. With Xander Bogaerts entrenched as the team's starting shortstop, Story is expected to play second base in Beantown. The 29-year-old was inevitably going to lose a bit of fantasy shine with the move away from Coors Field, but Fenway Park is not a terrible landing spot for the power/speed shortstop. Story, a two-time All-Star, hit .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs, 75 RBI, 88 runs and 20 stolen bases in 142 games in his final season in Colorado and is currently ranked as RotoBaller's No. 5 fantasy shortstop. Adding second base eligibility will be helpful to fantasy managers.

Sat Mar 19 202210:12Astros, Rangers, Yankees In The Mix For Trevor Story
Free-agent shortstop Trevor Story has multiple new suitors as the last great free-agent shortstop remaining after the Minnesota Twins signed Carlos Correa on Saturday morning. The Houston Astros, Texas Rangers and New York Yankees have joined the mix alongside the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants. Story would prefer to play shortstop, though, and is believed to be open to considering a short-term deal with opt-outs, which could definitely fit the Yankees. The Yankees and Astros likely have an edge because they would be using him at the 6. The Yankees weren't really in on Correa, but they like Story. The 29-year-old power/speed threat at shortstop is going to lose some fantasy luster leaving Coors Field, but New York or Houston wouldn't be terrible landing spots for Story.

Fri Mar 18 202214:03Trevor Story Choosing Between Four Teams
Superstar free-agent shortstop Trevor Story is choosing one of four teams soon. The San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox and two other teams remain in the mix for his services, and Story has prioritized winning. He's also considering a short-term positional move, too, if necessary. If Story were to sign with either the Giants or Red Sox, he'd be moving to the keystone, as the Giants already have Brandon Crawford at short and the Red Sox have Xander Bogaerts manning the 6. The 29-year-old somewhat underwhelmed with his .251/.329/.471 slash line in 526 plate appearances with the Colorado Rockies last year, but he still managed 24 home runs, 75 RBI, 88 runs and 20 stolen bases in 142 games. Story will lose a little fantasy shine leaving Coors Field, but his blend of power and speed at his position still makes him plenty attractive to fantasy managers.

Thu Mar 17 202210:05Red Sox Looking At Trevor Story
After losing out on first baseman Freddie Freeman, the Boston Red Sox are taking a look at free-agent shortstop Trevor Story. However, Story would likely have to play second base in Boston with two-time World Series champion Xander Bogaerts at shortstop. Other possible options for Story include the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros and others. The 29-year-old reportedly wants to go somewhere where he can remain at shortstop, but perhaps the Red Sox persuade him with enough cash. Story, a two-time All-Star, hit 24 home runs with 75 RBI and 20 steals last year, but he disappointed with a .251 batting average in 142 games. He'll still be a strong shortstop target in fantasy drafts, but leaving Coors Field will be a downgrade.

Mon Mar 14 202212:17Twins Have Checked In On Trevor Story
The Minnesota Twins are once again in need of a shortstop after trading Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the New York Yankees on Sunday night, and they have money to spend. As a result, they have checked in on free-agent shortstop Trevor Story, and he's a logical fit. Story wants to remain at shortstop and has turned down nine-figure deals (more than $100 million) because they were for other positions. The 29-year-old became a free agent when he declined his qualifying offer last November. Landing in Minnesota wouldn't be the most attractive location for Story, who hasn't fared very well in his career outside of hitter-friendly Coors Field. Still, he'll be one of the highest-ceiling shortstops due to his power-speed combination. Stay tuned.

Tue Dec 7 202112:42Red Sox Have Checked In With Trevor Story
The Boston Red Sox have at least checked in with free-agent shortstop Trevor Story. There are at least three serious players for Story, plus others and one mystery team. MLB Network's Jon Heyman also mentioned the Houston Astros as a team to have expressed interest in Story this offseason. Boston recently reached out to Carlos Correa's representatives before the lockout, but it remains to be seen if All-Star Xander Bogaerts would be moved out of the position. It's unclear if Story is willing to move to another position besides shortstop, but the Seattle Mariners have reportedly been interested in adding Story to play third base. Leaving Coors Field will be a downgrade for Story, but landing in Boston wouldn't be a bad place for the power/speed threat at shortstop.

Tue Nov 30 202121:51Mariners Eyeing Trevor Story To Play 3B
The Seattle Mariners are interested in free-agent shortstop Trevor Story and would like him to play third base. Story has a long list of suitors for a multitude of positions, so no deal is likely before the impending lockout this week. Along with Carlos Correa, Story is the biggest free-agent shortstop available after Corey Seager landed a 10-year deal with the Texas Rangers on Monday. Story has had an OPS above .800 in each of the last four years, although a move away from hitter-friendly Coors Field could make him less attractive moving forward. Still, the 29-year-old has elite speed -- 20-plus steals in three of the last four seasons -- and plenty of pop despite underwhelming with a .251/.329/.471 slash line with an .801 OPS, 24 home runs and 75 RBI in 142 games for the Rockies in 2021. If possible, the M's would like to keep J.P. Crawford at shortstop.

Tue Nov 30 202114:29Rockies Reportedly Interested in Trevor Story Reunion
According to a tweet from MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Colorado Rockies reportedly "would like to try to bring back Trevor Story." One of the offseason's best available free-agent position players, Story spent the first six years of his career in Colorado. A career .272 hitter with a lifetime 112 wRC+, Story hit .251 with a .329 on-base percentage, 24 home runs, and 20 stolen bases in 595 plate appearances last season. The National League West club's current shortstop options include Brendan Rodgers and Garrett Hampson. Rodgers was the more productive of the duo last season, batting .284 with a .328 on-base percentage and 15 home runs in 415 plate appearances. However, Hampson did register 11 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 494 plate appearances.

Thu Nov 18 202118:07Trevor Story Meets With Rangers
Free agent shortstop Trevor Story met with the Texas Rangers Tueday, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Story is a Dallas-area native, which could make for a strong fit. While incumbent shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa remains with the club, there are plenty of question marks around the infield which Story would certainly help solve, whether he or Kiner-Falefa ended up playing a different position. At least eight teams have touched base with Story, and while the Rangers are rumored to be ready to spend, it may be some time before a destination is determined.

Tue Nov 16 202120:26Trevor Story To Reject Qualifying Offer
Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story is expected to reject the qualifying offer and become a free agent Wednesday. He will hit the open market for the first time after being drafted into the Rockies organization in 2011. Over six big-league seasons, Story has slashed .272/.340/.523 with 158 homers and 100 steals in 745 games. He is considered to be one of the big-five shortstops available this winter, and the only foregone conclusion appears to be that he will not be returning to Colorado, as the club has not been in touch with Story about a reunion, and the 29-year-old has made his displeasure with the team very public over the past few years.

Sat Nov 6 202120:05Trevor Story To Receive Qualifying Offer
As expected, the Colorado Rockies will be extending a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer to shortstop Trevor Story. The Rockies will now be able to get some draft-pick compensation when Story inevitably leaves as a free agent. He'll be one of the five premium shortstops on the open market this winter despite having a subpar season in 2021. The 29-year-old hit .251/.329/.471 with 24 home runs, 75 RBI and 20 stolen bases. Still pretty good numbers, but Story was bothered by an elbow injury for most of the first half. Leaving hitter-friendly Coors Field won't be idea, but Story will still be an elite fantasy shortstop, and he'll have no shortage of suitors. The Rockies, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers could be his most serious pursuers.

Wed Sep 29 202101:53Trevor Story Goes Yard In Win
Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in a 3-1 win over the Nationals on Tuesday. Story blasted his 24th homer of the season, a solo shot, in the fifth inning off Patrick Corbin. He also swatted his 34th double of the season in the contest. The 28-year-old shortstop has struggled over the last 15 games, batting just .233 but he does have five home runs over that span. On the season, he's slashing .247/.325/.473 with 24 home runs, 74 RBI, and 19 stolen bases over 514 at-bats.

Tue Sep 28 202101:29Trevor Story Reaches Three Times In Loss To The Nats
Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story went 1-for-3 with a single, two runs scored, two walks, and a strikeout in a 5-4 loss to the Nationals on Monday. Story has a solid day at the dish, reaching three times and scoring a pair of runs. Monday's effort snapped an 0-for-9 streak for the 28-year-old shortstop. It's been an underwhelming season, as far his Story's standards go, as he's slashing just .245/.324/.465 with 23 home runs, 73 RBI, and 19 stolen bases over 510 at-bats. He could be playing his final games with the Rockies over the coming week as he's set to become a free agent this winter and should command plenty of attention on the open market.

Sat Sep 25 202118:21Trevor Story On The Bench Saturday
Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story isn't in the lineup for a Saturday matchup with the San Francisco Giants and right-handed starter Anthony DeSclafani. Story is hitting .247 with a .324 on-base percentage, 23 home runs, and 19 stolen bases in 568 plate appearances this season. Brendan Rodgers is starting at shortstop in Story's place and hitting second against the Giants. The 24-year-old could be worth a look as a streaming option in deeper leagues. In 383 plate appearances this season, Rodgers is batting .289 with a .334 on-base percentage and 15 home runs.
