This will mark the fourth different position Ramirez has played for the Indians this season as they look to test his ability to serve as a utility player going forward. With second base and shortstop eligibility already accounted for, his third base eligibility in more liberal formats may not come as much use, but the fact that the Indians are finding more ways to get him in the lineup figures to increase his value down the stretch.

The return of Jason Kipnis has pushed Ramirez out of a regular spot in the lineup but he got a look in left field with Michael Brantley still limited to DH duties due to a balky shoulder. The Indians won't press Brantley into outfield duties so Ramirez could see further action in left field in the coming days.

Ramirez collected three hits and drove in three runs in Saturday's win over the Twins.

Ramirez should continue to see regular action at second base with Jason Kipnis on the DL. He's hit safely in four of his five starts since being recalled.

The injury to Jason Kipnis should result in an extended opportunity for Ramirez to show that he can handle big-league pitching, but until he begins delivering results, his value will remain limited to very deep and AL-only formats.

The Indians will bring Ramirez back to the big leagues after a sore shoulder resulted in Jason Kipnis landing on the DL. The Tribe demoted Ramirez to the minors in mid-July after he scuffled to a .176/.243/.235 line with the big club, and his performance at Triple-A hasn't been much better of late, either. Ramirez had gone 6-for-40 (.150) over his previous 10 games prior to the call-up.

Ramirez continues to struggle with the bat -- he is hitting .190 this month and .183 on the year -- so he will be held out of the lineup Wednesday for the second time in three days. Mike Aviles will get another start at shortstop in Ramirez's place.

Ramirez's offensive production began to pick up during the Indians' previous series against the White Sox, but he hasn't been able to keep it going over the weekend. After going 0-for-6 with a walk in the first two games of the series with the Reds, Ramirez will be rested in favor of Mike Aviles on Sunday.

Ramirez had a very productive game out of the nine-hole Saturday and if Jason Kipnis keeps hitting the way he is, Ramirez could be in line to score more often.

Ramirez, who made his sixth error in 24 games Tuesday and continues to struggle at the plate, doesn't appear on the verge of getting sent to the minor leagues, MLB.com reports. "I don't think we want to lose patience that quickly," manager Terry Francona said. "I think we're always trying to figure out ways to get better, but maybe more with trying to help our players get better, as opposed to just getting rid of them. I don't think that makes a lot of sense."

Ramirez has started to lose playing time to Mike Aviles at shortstop and could see his playing time further erode depending on whether or not Zach Walters sticks around but it doesn't sound like he's on the verge of a demotion back to the minor leagues.

Ramirez is 3-for-8 for his career against Twins right-hander Trevor May, but the shortstop will be rested Sunday after going hitless in the Indians' last three games, dropping his batting average to .173. He'll likely still continue to play ahead of his replacement in the lineup, Zach Walters, but it might not be long before top prospect Francisco Lindor gets the call to the big leagues to permanently take over at shortstop.

It will be the second consecutive day off for Ramirez, and his fourth in the last six games as they'll matchup against the left-handed Danny Duffy. Mike Aviles will get the start in his stead, the fourth consecutive time that's happened when Cleveland has faced a southpaw.
