Sat Apr 3 202102:47Bauer takes no-hitter into 7th to win Dodgers debut at Coors
DENVER (AP) — Trevor Bauer took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning of his Los Angeles debut before allowing a pair of two-run homers, and the Dodgers held on after building a big lead to beat the Colorado Rockies 11-6 on Friday night. The game had a little bit of everything, including a gray cat making a surprise appearance in center field before being ushered out by stadium personnel. Bauer (1-0), the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, purred along through six innings until Trevor Story broke up the no-hit bid with a single and Charlie Blackmon ended the shutout with a two-run homer. Ryan McMahon later followed with another two-run homer. David Price eventually replaced Bauer and gave up back-to-back homers to Dom Nuñez and Sam Hilliard, suddenly turning a 10-0 rout into a 10-6 game. It was the second time in Rockies history they homered four times in an inning. Bauer went 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs while striking out 10. The right-hander signed a $102 million, three-year deal... [More]

Fri Mar 26 202118:44Anderson confident Rays bullpen can thrive while he's out
Tampa Bay reliever Nick Anderson will miss at least half the season with an elbow injury that’s not expected to require surgery and he is confident the Rays bullpen will continue to perform well without him. “We’ve got a great team. We’ve got plenty of arms. I don’t ever look at myself as a key piece or an important person,” the 30-year-old said Friday during a Zoom video conference from spring training in Port Charlotte, Florida. “I have just as much confidence in everybody else without me,” the right-hander added. “I don’t know if they feel the same way, but that’s the way I feel. We have a great group of guys. They’re going to do just fine.” Anderson, who helped the defending AL champions reach the playoffs each of the past two seasons, has a partially torn ligament in his pitching elbow that likely will sideline him beyond the All-Star break. He was placed on the 60-day injured list Friday. The Rays selected the contract of right-hander Andrew Kittredge from Triple-A Durham. Anderson... [More]
Thu Dec 17 202011:08Rays re-sign C Mike Zunino to $3 million, 1-year deal
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays and catcher Mike Zunino agreed to a one-year contract that guarantees $3 million, a deal that includes a club option and could be worth $9 million over two seasons. Zunino's contract, announced Wednesday, includes a $2 million salary for 2021 and a $4 million option for 2022 with a $1 million buyout. The option price would escalate to $5 million if he appears in 80 games next season, $6 million if he appears in 90 games and $7 million if he appears in 100 games or is traded during 2021. Zunino appeared in 28 games, including 25 starts, for Tampa Bay in 2020. The 29-year-old is considered a solid defender and has significant power but has struggled to make contact. He hit .147 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 2020. During the Rays postseason run to the American League pennant, Zunino hit .170 but had four home runs and drove in eight. He became the first player in major league history to hit under .150 in the regular season and then hit multiple homers in the postseason, according to Stats LLC. Tampa Bay declined Zunino’s $4.5 million option for 2021 following the Rays’ World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games. The Rays also agreed to minor league contracts with right-handers David Hess and Andrew Kittredge and catcher Joe Odom. All three received invites to major league spring training. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
