Descalso has only five homers on the season and has generally had a disappointing 2015 campaign with the bat, currently hitting 28 points below his career .239 average.

The Rockies will kick off an eight-game homestand Monday against the Phillies, and Coors Field has historically made fantasy assets out of hitters with even lesser abilities than Descalso.

This was Descalso's first homer of the year and he should get some regular playing time until Tulowizki returns from injury. Descalso is only batting .167, but that'll rise as he gets more plate appearances.

Descalso doesn't figure to get more than the occasional start at first in instances where Morneau needs a rest, but expect the Rockies to eventually look into adding a player who is more comfortable at the position to serve as the primary backup.

Descalso will draw the first of what projects to be very few starts this season, as manager Walt Weiss is awarding regular shortstop Troy Tulowitzki with a day off. Descalso will serve as a pinch-hitter on most days, likely limiting his fantasy value this season.

An oblique strain cost Descalso nearly two weeks, but he made it through a minor league game Wednesday without issue and will look to hit the ground running upon his return to major league spring games. Descalso should return to action in the big leagues relatively soon after playing in the minor league game Wednesday. If all goes well, he should be on track for Opening Day, but his status should be monitored as it approaches.
