RHP Chris Smith was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to take his place. Cole, 27, allowed six hits and four runs in one inning against the Yankees. He remained in the game after being hit on the foot on an infield single by SS Didi Gregorius to open the ninth inning. He had entered the game in the eighth. Cole was selected by Toronto in the 29th round of the 2011 draft and has an ERA of 3.56 in 128 career minor-league games (117 starts).
