The Toronto Blue Jays placed catcher Danny Jansen (side) on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 26-year-old is dealing with left side soreness. The team selected the contract of fellow catcher Tyler Heineman and he will be part of the team's active roster for Monday night's game against the New York Yankees. Alejandro Kirk is getting the start behind the plate for Monday's game, but Heineman should see a few starts throughout the next week or so. We don't have word yet on how long the Blue Jays expect for Jansen to be sidelined, so make sure to stay tuned for updates.

He started the game and went on to hit a solo home run and draw a walk before he was pulled from the game in the seventh inning. Jansen had been sidelined since July 21 due to a strained right hamstring. Going forward, he'll split catching duties with Reese McGuire and Alejandro Kirk, though one player could be demoted and Kirk could also fill in as designated hitter. Over 50 games on the year, Jansen has slashed .183/.270/.365, which is nearly identical to his 2020 slash line, .183/.313/.358.

Infielder Cavan Biggio (back), however, is still bothered by his back injury. Jansen was placed on the injured list with a right hamstring strain two weeks ago, but he's nearing a return. He was hitting just .176/.259/.336 with five homers and 10 RBI in 49 games this year before his injury, so he'll likely share catching duties in Toronto upon his return, in a best-case scenario. Alejandro Kirk and Reese McGuire have been splitting catching duties. Biggio was put on the injured list on Aug. 3 for an injury that he's been dealing with all year. The 26-year-old has seven home runs in 246 at-bats, but he hasn't helped much with his .215/.316/.350 slash line, and it's looking like he won't be ready to return when he's eligible.
