PITTSBURGH (AP) — Chris Archer has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, one day after being removed following the first inning of his start against the Washington Nationals.Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Archer will not throw for at least a week, then be re-evaluated.In other moves Wednesday, the Pirates placed right-hander Clay Holmes on the 10-day IL with right quadriceps discomfort while recalling right-handers Dario Agrazal and Parker Markel from Triple-A Indianapolis.Agrazal is expected to take Archer's spot in the rotation and pitch Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. The rookie made eight starts for the Pirates earlier this season, going 2-3 with a 4.29 ERA.Holmes pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief of Archer on Tuesday night in the Pirates' 4-1 win. Claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on July 27, Markel pitched in relief twice for Pittsburgh and allowed two runs - one earned - in three innings.Archer, a two-time All-Star with the Tampa Bay Rays, is 3-9 with a 5.19 ERA in 23 starts. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pirates reliever Keone Kela has returned from a two-game suspension for an unspecified violation of his contract and was cagey when asked about what led to the ban.Yahoo Sports reported Wednesday that Kela was suspended due to an altercation with Hector Morales, the team's director of cultural readiness and peak performance coach. Asked specifically about that report, Kela said he "wouldn't say it's not true" but also "wouldn't say it's a fact."Kela also said that "nothing happened" and said "no explanations" were provided by the Pirates for his suspension. He said he was looking forward to returning to the mound.Before serving his suspension, Kela had been on the injured list since May 6 with right shoulder inflammation. SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-hander Trevor Williams on the 10-day injured list with a strain in his right side.Williams, who played at San Diego's Rancho Bernardo High, came out of Thursday night's game after just 3 2/3 innings.To take his roster spot, right-hander Clay Holmes was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. It's Holmes' second stint with the Pirates this season.The Pirates also optioned right-hander Richard Rodríguez to Triple-A and selected the contract of right-hander Geoff Hartlieb from Indianapolis.
