Updating a previous report, Collmenter was not officially named the Diamondbacks' opening day starter, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports.

A previous report from Fox Sports Arizona's Jack Magruder intimated that Collmenter would be Arizona's opening day starter, and that may very well end up being the case. However, nothing official has been determined, as general manager Dave Stewart just listed Collmenter first when acknowledging which starters had been penciled into the rotation for 2015. Still, the fact remains that Collmenter will be one of the first starters to take the ball for Arizona in 2015, and should offer a solid ERA and WHIP, while falling short of what fantasy owners typically look for in the strikeout department.

A lot can change between now and April, but it would seem that Collmenter will be the anchor of a lackluster pitching staff in Arizona in 2015. He certainly doesn't profile as a No. 1 starter, but he has posted an ERA under 3.70 and a WHIP under 1.30 in each of the past four seasons, so he has plenty of fantasy value. Unfortunately he has had a K-rate below 17 percent in two of the past four seasons, so he's not much help in that category.

New Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said that he views Collmenter as a starting pitcher, the Arizona Republic reports.

The Diamondbacks are re-shaping their rotation, which includes a deal that will send Wade Miley to Boston. Collmenter will begin the season as the elder statesman in the Arizona rotation after tossing a career-high 179.1 innings to a 3.46 ERA last season.

Collmenter ended his season allowing one run on three hits and three strikeouts in eight innings in the Diamondbacks' 1-0 loss to the Cardinals.

It was a great start, but he still managed to get the loss. He ended the season strong, allowing seven runs in his last seven starts. In that span, he went at least six innings in each start. As a result of the good finish, his ERA moved to 3.43. He finishes the season with an 11-9 record.

Collmenter continued his strong September by tossing 6.1 innings of two-run ball Monday night.

Collmenter has now allowed five runs in 27.1 innings of work this month. After the big game Monday, the righty has 11 wins and a 3.57 ERA. His final start will come this weekend against the Cardinals.

Collmenter allowed two runs on seven hits, he did not walk a batter, and struck out one over eight innings of a 2-1 loss to the Giants on Tuesday night.

A tough luck loss for Collmenter who locked up in a duel with Jake Peavy, facing the Giants for the second time in six days. He's allowed just four runs over his last 35.2 innings, spanning five starts, so he's obviously on a roll right now. He'll hope for better results next time out on the road against Minnesota.

Collmenter threw six shutout innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Giants, allowing three hits, two walks and striking out three.

The Diamondbacks bullpen was knocked around by the Giants in the seventh and eight innings, undoing Collmenter's great outing. The 28-year-old has given up only two runs in his last 27.2 innings (0.66 ERA) stretching over four starts. Collmenter will face the Giants again Tuesday, this time at home.

Collmenter (10-7) shut down the Padres on Wednesday, allowing a run on five hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings.

The Padres have scored the fewest runs in the league, but Collmenter kept them off balance all night and even added an RBI to help his cause. The right-hander has given up only two runs in 21.2 innings over his last three starts. He'll try to keep it going next Wednesday in San Francisco.

Collmenter was impressive over 6.1 innings Friday night, limiting the Rockies to just one run on two hits while striking out five.

Collmenter has been outstanding during his last two turns on the mound, as the big right-hander has allowed just two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while piling up 13 strikeouts across 14.2 innings. Collmenter will look to continue this brilliance on the bump Wednesday in San Diego.

Collmenter (9-7) was masterful on Friday against the Padres, as he gave up one unearned run on four hits through 8.1 innings while striking out eight hitters.

It doesn't get much better than this for starting pitchers. Collmenter limited his mistakes on the night to hardly nothing and was only pulled from the game in the ninth inning due to his pitch count. He threw 72 strikes out of 106 pitches allowing only one hitter to reach third base all night long. Collmenter next takes the mound on Friday against the Rockies.

Collmenter will not make Tuesday's start, as the game against the Indians was postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, with Andrew Chafin, not Collmenter, making the start in the extra game.

Owners in deeper leagues who were looking to use Collmenter twice this week will be out of luck, as the Diamondbacks needed to call on Chafin so Collmenter could remain in his typical spot in the rotation.

Collmenter lost his sixth game of the season Wednesday, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six Royals over six innings.

Collmenter only allowed five baserunners, but his two walks were costly, one before a Mike Moustakas home run and the other before a Moustakas RBI single. The league is hitting .266 versus the right-hander and he's only striking out 5.9 hitters per nine innings, but his 8-6 record, 4.09 ERA and 1.28 WHIP aren't bad if you need two starts next week. Collmenter will pitch in Cleveland on Tuesday and Miami on Sunday.

Collmenter allowed three runs on four hits and two walk while striking out four in 5.1 innings in the Diamondbacks 7-4 win over the Pirates on Thursday.

Collmenter took the no-decision in the game. After allowing six runs in 2.2 innings in his last start, Collmenter turned in a much better performance Thursday. Despite going 1-1 in July, the Diamondbacks won in four out of his five starts in the month. However, his ERA in July hit 5.14, even higher than the 4.60 ERA in June.

Josh Collmenter stifled the Cubs en route to a win on Sunday, allowing only one run over seven frames.

Collmenter outdueled Jake Arrieta, holding the Cubs to four hits and a walk while striking out four. Not much has gone right for Arizona this season, but Collmenter certainly has. He has allowed one run or fewer in three out of his last four starts and now owns a 3.64 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 69/29 K/BB ratio. The right-hander will try to keep it going when he takes on the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park over the weekend.

Collmenter was left with a no-decision because the Arizona offense didn't break through until extra innings. He gave up seven Miami hits, but walked only one and struck out six in the impressive start. The right-hander will carry a solid 3.80 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into his next scheduled outing at home against the Cubs.

Collmenter gave up four runs over the first two innings, so he was fortunate to make it all the way to the seventh inning. He allowed a season-high 11 hits in the loss while striking out three and walking one. His ERA now sits at 3.98 for the year. He'll get the Marlins next week.

We're not sure one run in 5 1/3 innings against the Padres even qualifies as a good outing these days, but it did serve to lower Collmenter's ERA from 3.87 to 3.74. He's picked up a win in three straight appearances, including a surprise relief outing in extra innings against the Indians on Tuesday.

Collmenter walked a season-high four, but it didn't do any damage, except for perhaps forcing him from the game an inning early. The lone run scored when Buster Posey singled and Pablo Sandoval tripled in the first. It was Collmenter's first win since his first career shutout back on May 29 against the Reds.

As everyone predicted, it was a two-run homer from Dee Gordon and a three-run double from Dan Haren that did him in. Since pitching a shutout against the Reds on May 29, Collmenter has given up 13 earned runs over 18 innings in his last three starts. Ideally, he'll return to a middle relief role at some point.

Collmenter surrendered seven hits, walked one, and whiffed five. This type of outing is typically sufficient to earn a victory over the Astros, but not against a team that is 12-4 since May 24. After falling to 4-3 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.16 WHIP, Collmenter gets the Dodgers on Sunday.
