Varejao registered 15 points (6-7 FG, 3-5 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block while turning the ball over once. He played 28 minutes in the win against the Denver Nuggets on Friday.
Varejao was one of seven Cleveland Cavaliers to record double digits in scoring on Friday. He's a high-energy player who will stuff the stat sheet on most nights. His role is clear in Cleveland and remains a solid option at center in standard leagues.
Fri Oct 31 201418:00Varejao has agreed to contract extension with Cavs
Varejao has agreed to a contract extension with the Cavs.
The terms were not announced, but the reported terms earlier in the week were three years and $30 million, so that's probably pretty close to what was finalized. With Varejao it always comes down to health, but when he's on the floor, he's one of the most active big men in the league.

Varejao is close to agreement on a new three-year contract worth an estimated $30 million, ESPN reports.
Varejao is currently entering the final year of a contract worth $9.7 million this season, but the career-long Cavalier is reportedly very close to extending his stay in Cleveland. Recently dubbed the Cavaliers' starting center, Varejao could pen his new contract in the coming days, while teammate Tristan Thompson has until midnight Friday to secure an extension with the Cavs.
Mon Oct 27 201410:33Varejao negotiating contract extension with Cavaliers
Varejao is negotiating a contract extension with the Cavaliers, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Varejao's current contract is set to make him a restricted free agent following this season, but it appears an extension could be forthcoming. The 32-year-old has spent his entire 10-year NBA career with the Cavaliers and was recently deemed Cleveland's starting center this season. After playing just 81 games in his three prior seasons, Varejao managed to suit up for 65 contests last term, offering 8.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game.
Fri Oct 24 201413:25Varejao has officially been announced as starting center
Varejao has officially been announced as the starting center, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Chris Haynes reports.
This was what was anticipated, but now it is official. Tristan Thompson will come off the bench. Given Varejao's injury history, it would seem unlikely that he'll see 30-plus minutes per game over the course of the season, but he should still be drafted in most formats.
Thu Oct 23 201415:44Varejao expected to open season as Cavs' starting center
Varejao is expected to open the season as the Cavs' starting center, the Morning Journal reports.
While coach David Blatt is yet to officially announce a starter, Varejao is widely believed to hold the upper hand over Tristan Thompson. He averaged 9.5 points and 6.3 rebounds during the preseason and is a favorite of LeBron James, who lauded the Brazilian's toughness and dedication. "He's the same Andy," James said earlier in camp. "If you ask him to run through six walls, he'll run through seven." Varejao is unquestionably the Cavs' best rim protector, but he's missed 166 games over the past four years. In order to keep him fresh, Thompson figures to see plenty of minutes, and Kevin Love could even slide over to the center spot in certain small-ball lineups. From a fantasy perspective, Varejao's value should rise with the return of James, but he's still only a fringe option in most leagues.

Varejao scored 22 points (10-13 FG, 2-2 FT) with eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in just 23 minutes during Monday's preseason win over the Bulls.
With LeBron James and Kevin Love joining Kyrie Irving in Cleveland, there likely won't be too many games during the regular season where Varejao puts together this kind of offensive performance. If he holds off Tristan Thompson for the starting center spot though, Varejao's ability to put back their misses while racking up boards and blocks should still give him solid fantasy value.

Varejao will start at center in Monday's preseason game versus the Bulls, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Varejao starting the Cavaliers' second-to-last exhibition outing could be indicative of coach David Blatt's preferred first-team unit heading into this season. With Kevin Love a lock to start at power forward, Varejao occupying the center position would relegate Tristan Thompson to come off the bench, which will be the case Monday.
Tue Oct 14 201422:07Varejao banged knee in Tuesday's game
Varejao banged his knee in Tuesday's game, but coach David Blatt expects him to be available Wednesday, the Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd reports.
He was hobbled after the incident in Tuesday's exhibition, and exited the game, but it sounds like he should be fine moving forward.

Varejao started at center for the Cavaliers and provided 14 points (7-10 FG) and three boards in 20 minutes Saturday in the overtime win against the Heat.
In the preseason at least, Varejao appears to be in a time share with Tristan Thompson as the other Cavalier big who plays next to Kevin Love. He had a nice scoring output in his homecoming, but his 14-point games will be the exception rather than the rule for the new-look Cavaliers.

Coach David Blatt will start Tristan Thompson over Varejao at center in Sunday's exhibition against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
While an official starter for the regular season is yet to be named, it would appear Thompson is the frontrunner to land the starting job. It's likely both players will start at some points this season, and both will be key factors in a much-improved Cavs' frontcourt.
Thu Apr 17 201410:51Varejao dresses, gets DNP in home finale
Anderson Varejao was dressed and ready to play to make one final appearance in front of his home fans on Wednesday, but was left on the bench by coach Mike Brown, who simply chose not to play Varejao in a meaningless blowout win over the Nets. .
That was likely Varejao's last game as a Cavalier and Brown also failed to play Zydrunas Ilgauskas back in 2009 on a night he would have broken the team's all-time games played record, a move that drew the public ire of LeBron James at the time. Michael Curry also points out that Brown, in fact, has never really made a true "significant relationship" with one of his players in his entire career. While Brown is a respected NBA coach, his treatment of Ilgauskas and Varejao will not go unnoticed by some players around the league and could impact Cleveland's ability to sign free agents at some point down the line.

Fri Apr 4 201411:04Anderson Varejao listed as game-time call
Anderson Varejao (shoulder) is a game-time decision for Friday's matchup with the Hawks.
Varejao has rejoined the team in Atlanta, giving him a chance to play through his sprained AC joint. He'll come off the bench and cut into some of Spencer Hawes' upside if he does suit up.

Thu Apr 3 201417:10Anderson Varejao (shoulder) could play Friday
Anderson Varejao (sprained right AC joint) is expected to join the Cavaliers in Atlanta and he could play Friday vs. the Hawks.
The Cavs have won six of their past seven games and trail the eighth-place Knicks by only two games, so Varejao may press the issue to help his team keep up their momentum. He'll play limited minutes in a reserve role, as he has since Spencer Hawes was acquired, so there's minimal upside here for fantasy owners.

Mon Mar 31 201417:48Anderson Varejao out with AC joint sprain
Anderson Varejao was diagnosed with a sprained right AC joint and has been ruled out for Wednesday vs. the Magic.
There's a decent chance he's out for the season, but there is no timetable given on his possible return just yet. The AC joint allows a player to raise his hands above his head, which is obviously a very important thing to do when grabbing rebounds. Varejao suffered the injury on Sunday and he was not able to return. There is no reason to own in him in almost any format. Tyler Zeller fill AV's spot in the rotation while Tristan Thompson and Spencer Hawes should see a few extra minutes.

Sun Mar 30 201416:30Anderson Varejao suffers shoulder sprain
Anderson Varejao suffered a right shoulder sprain on Sunday and is doubtful to return.
There's certainly a chance he'll miss time here and the Cavs will likely give him an MRI. Varejao just can't stay healthy these days and his fantasy owners should probably just cut him outright. Spencer Hawes, Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller should get more playing time.

Sun Mar 30 201416:02Anderson Varejao suffers arm injury Sunday
Anderson Varejao suffered an arm injury against the Pacers on Sunday and went to the locker room.
He was grabbing at his shoulder and continued to play was his arm was dangling on the one possession he played before going to the locker room. Varejao ran to the locker room under his own power and is likely being evaluated right now. If he needs to miss time, Tristan Thompson, Spencer Hawes and Tyler Zeller would benefit.

Wed Mar 26 201423:38Anderson Varejao with 12 & 16 double-double
Anderson Varejao came off the bench and had 12 points, 16 rebounds and a steal on 5-of-9 shooting in 31 minutes on Wednesday.
He double-doubled on Saturday, posted a dud on Sunday, and looked great again tonight. He's worth owning in all leagues and might have ruined the fantasy value of Spencer Hawes in the process. But if the Cavaliers continue to blow games and fall out of the playoff race, Varejao remains a shutdown candidate.

Sun Mar 23 201422:30Anderson Varejao quiet after double-double
Anderson Varejao followed up Saturday's double-double with only four points and four rebounds vs. the Knicks on Sunday.
AV also turned the ball over three times in 20 minutes off the bench. This game underscores his lack of fantasy appeal now that Spencer Hawes is dominating minutes at center and the Cavs are determined to limit Varejao's playing time.

Wed Mar 19 201400:59Anderson Varejao double-doubles in loss
Anderson Varejao came off the bench for 16 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and a block in 26 minutes of Tuesday's loss to the Heat.
He had two points and 12 rebounds on Sunday, meaning he's averaging 11.5 boards and 2.0 steals over his last two games. If you need a big man, he's worth a look now that he appears to be healthy again. And the Cavs have a decent fantasy playoff schedule, going 4-3-3 over the next three weeks.
