HOUSTON (AP) — Justin Verlander pitched seven sharp innings, AL MVP Jose Altuve hit his first home run of the season and the Houston Astros beat the Angels 5-2 on Wednesday, ending Los Angeles' road winning streak at a team record-tying 11.Albert Pujols connected off Verlander for his 619th career homer. ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have agreed to a one-year, $3.4 million deal with reliever Arodys Vizcaino, avoiding arbitration.The Braves also avoided arbitration with two other players, reaching one-year agreements with right-handers Sam Freeman ($1,075,000) and Dan Winkler ($610,000).Right-hander Mike Foltynewicz remains eligible for arbitration. He's asking for $2.3 million, and the team is offering $2.2 million.The 27-year-old Vizcaino took over the closer's role from Jim Johnson last season. Improved control, accompanied by an overwhelming fastball, helped Vizcaino keep the job. Winkler (elbow) has been activated from the 60-day disabled list, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Winkler was a Rule 5 draft pick in the offseason despite his need to continue recovering from Tommy John surgery. The club will likely audition him some in September, as well as keep him on the roster to start fulfilling the requirements to keep him in the organization. The 25-year-old last pitched in 2014 with Double-A Tulsa in 2014, compiling a 1.41 ERA and 0.74 WHIP with 71 strikeouts in 70 innings over 12 starts. However, he will pitch out of the bullpen for the Braves.

Winkler (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sunday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Winkler has a few months to go until he is a full calendar year removed from Tommy John surgery, so the Braves will look to use his 40-man roster spot elsewhere. As a Rule 5 draft pick, he'll need to be offered back to Colorado after spending less than 90 days on the active roster.

Winkler (elbow) is expected to open the year on the disabled list, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

This was fully expected, with Winkler still less than 10 months removed from Tommy John surgery. What's important to keep in mind here is that under Rule 5 provisions, Winkler must be on the active roster for 90 days this season or else the Braves will have to offer him back to Colorado.
