While he hasn't exclusively been used as a platoon player this season, Rasmus will likely find himself out of the lineup more often than not when the Astros face a left-handed starter. Rasmus thus far has a ridiculous strikeout rate (39.1) that's unsustainable even for him, yet he still has a .254/.319/.524 slash line, thanks to four home runs and an also-unsustainable .375 BABIP.

Rasmus hit his fourth home run of the season -- a two-run shot off Padres' starter Andrew Cashner -- during Wednesday's 7-2 win.

Rasmus went 3-for-13 (.231) with four runs, two homers, five RBI and a stolen base during the three-game series with the Padres that ended Wednesday. He also fanned seven times during the series while walking only once.

Manager A.J. Hinch will turn to Robbie Grossman to man left field Saturday, sending Rasmus to the bench for the third time in five games. Rasmus is 2-for-12 with six strikeouts in his career against Saturday's starter C.J. Wilson, and he figures to continue sitting against all lefties.

Rasmus isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics.

Rasmus will get the day off Wednesday with the left-handed Drew Pomeranz on the mound for the A's. The move comes as no surprise given his career .213/.286/.360 against south paws, with Robbie Grossman starting in left in his place.

Rasmus is hitting .241 (7-for-29) in 13 Grapefruit League appearances, but his three home runs are tied for the team lead and he has more walks (nine) than strikeouts (seven). The 28-year-old figures to split time with Jake Marisnick in center field and draw most of his starts against right-handed pitchers.

Rasmus is expected to sign with the Astros, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Rasmus and the Astros reportedly have a one-year deal in place that's worth more than $4 million, though nothing has been made official. Rasmus appeared in 104 games for the Blue Jays last season but hit just .225 and saw his playing time dwindle later in the year. He's proven to be a productive player in the past, however, as he hit .276 with 66 RBI and 22 home runs in 2013. Rasmus should compete for the everyday center field position in Houston.

Rasmus is in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, according to John Lott of the National Post.

Rasmus has not started a game since September began, but he will get a start Sunday in place of Kevin Pillar. Rasmus is 4-for-11 (.364) with a double in his career against Sunday's starter for the Rays, Chris Archer.

Despite his late-game heroics Thursday night -- he homered to break a scoreless tie in the 10th inning -- Rasmus will find himself on the bench for a fourth straight game Friday and for the seventh time in the last nine games. Rasmus now has 17 homers on the year, but he's getting on base at just a .289 clip and it seems manager John Gibbons is intent on evaluating some of the team's other options over the remainder of the year, with Rasmus set to become a free agent in 2015.
