Sun Apr 2819:40Kevin Ginkel Locks Down Fifth SaveKevin GinkelSPDiamondbacksFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Kevin Ginkel has been a viable option for the team early in the season. The right-hander was asked to take over the closer role after Paul Sewald (oblique) went down. On Sunday, Ginkel made it look easy as he threw a scoreless ninth inning to hold the one-run lead over the Seattle Mariners. He holds a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and a 13/3 K/BB ratio, while converting five of his seven save chances. The expectation is that Ginkel will remain the primary closer until Sewald is ready to return.

Sun Apr 2819:17Anthony Rizzo Hits 300th Career Home RunAnthony Rizzo1BCubsFree Agent
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been heating up at the plate over the last week. On Sunday, Rizzo went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the blowout win over the Milwaukee Brewers. This marked Rizzo's fourth homer in six days and his 300th career long ball of his career. It came in his 1,664th game since debuting with the San Diego Padres in 2011. The six hits in the last two days has boosted his slash line to .277/.341/.446 on the season. Fantasy managers should check the waiver wire to see if Rizzo is available.

Sun Apr 2818:55Erick Fedde Nearly Throws Complete GameErick FeddeSPNationalsFree Agent
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Erick Fedde was sharp on the mound during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander threw 8 1/3 innings while allowing seven hits and two earned runs during the 4-2 win. Fedde struck out nine batters during this game to build his season total to 39 strikeouts. The assumption is that the right-hander is going to regress, but for the time being he holds a strong 2.20 ERA over six starts. Fantasy managers in need of pitching help should look at Fedde.

Sun Apr 2816:37Craig Kimbrel Blows Save, Exits With Training Staff SundayCraig KimbrelRPCubsFree Agent
Baltimore Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel blew his second consecutive save on Sunday before leaving the game alongside the team's training staff. Kimbrel issued a four-pitch walk to Darrell Hernaiz and then served up a two-run home run to Kyle McCann before leaving. He also blew the save in Friday's game after allowing two hits and three walks. It is unclear at this point what Kimbrel's injury is, but something was off with the veteran reliever. Expect more news to come out shortly from the Orioles.

Sun Apr 2816:29Freddie Freeman Blasts Solo Homer SundayFreddie Freeman1BBravesFree Agent
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk during Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. It was just the second homer of the season for Freeman and his first since March 28th. Despite the slight power outage, the former MVP has still been quite productive. Freeman is slashing .306/.425/.435 with 19 RBI, one stolen base and a 15.4 BB%. The 34-year-old is still one of the best bats in baseball and a serious hot streak might be right around the corner.

He struck out five batters without issuing a walk. The 33-year-old had a tumultuous start to the season due to injuries and inconsistencies, but he has only given up two earned runs across his last three starts. Gausman will look to continue his recent success in his next projected outing against the Washington Nationals.

Sun Apr 2814:31Brendan Rodgers Gets Breather On SundayBrendan RodgersSSRockiesFree Agent
Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers was not found in Sunday's lineup as the Rockies conclude the Mexico City Series against the Houston Astros. Rodgers has been swinging a hot bat as of late with a .292/.393/.458 line with one home run in his past seven games. As a result, Alan Trejo will cover second base and bat in the nine-hole. Trejo has tallied just two hits through ten games this season and holds a .105 AVG. Trejo has a difficult matchup against southpaw Framber Valdez, who will be making his first start since coming off of the 15-day IL due to elbow inflammation.

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. In the meantime, Jake Bauers will hit cleanup and cover first base during Sunday's game.

Sun Apr 2812:28Zac Gallen Plans To Make His Next StartZac GallenSPDiamondbacksFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) left the series opener against the Seattle Mariners early on Friday with tightness in his right hamstring, but he is optimistic that he'll be able to make his next start. "I feel pretty encouraged," Gallen said. "So my plan is to make my next start." The 28-year-old apparently made some pretty good progress with his hamstring in just one day. It's not official just yet, but he's currently scheduled to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Arizona on Wednesday. Gallen is a fantasy ace, but managers will want to be hesitant in deploying him next week if he indeed gets the nod to face the first-place Dodgers, who have one of the most feared lineups in baseball. Through his first six starts of 2024, Gallen is 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 35 strikeouts and nine walks in 32 innings.

Sun Apr 2812:24Randy Arozarena Not Starting Against White SoxRandy ArozarenaCFCardinalsFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena is not in the team's starting lineup on Sunday in the series finale against the Chicago White Sox. Arozarena will get a blow after starting the team's previous nine contests while going just 4-for-34 with 13 strikeouts to drop his season line to a rough .154/.228/.260. The 29-year-old Cuban slugger has added three home runs, nine RBI, four stolen bases and 12 runs scored in his first 104 at-bats in 2024. After the day off, hopefully Arozarena will be able to start picking things up offensively for the Rays and fantasy managers. Harold Ramirez is starting in left field and batting fifth, while Austin Shenton is the designated hitter and is batting sixth against White Sox right-hander Erick Fedde. Ramirez has one hit in two career at-bats against Fedde, while Shenton has never faced Fedde.

Sun Apr 2812:00Javier Baez Scratched On SundayJavier BáezSSCubsFree Agent
Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Kansas City Royals for undisclosed reasons. Zach McKinstry is now starting in his place and will hit seventh in the batting order against Royals right-hander Michael Wacha. Baez will start on the bench after starting the team's previous seven games. If he's dealing with an injury, we'll update you on condition when we get word. The 31-year-old free swinger has been a disappointment pretty much ever since he landed in Detroit in 2022 and he is off to another bad start in 2024, hitting .193/.233/.277 with only one home run, nine RBI, six stolen bases and 21 strikeouts in 90 plate appearances. McKinstry will be a poor sleeper option in DFS at shortstop. He's never faced Wacha in his career.

Sun Apr 2809:28David Bednar Records Fifth Save SaturdayDavid BednarSPPadresFree Agent
Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar picked up his fifth save of the season in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Giants. It wasn't without drama though. A day after allowing a walk, two hits, and three earned runs to the Giants, Bednar gave up a two-run home run to Jorge Soler to lead off the bottom of the tenth inning to bring the Giants within a run. The 29-year-old was able to strike out three of the next four batters to preserve the win. This season has not gone at all to plan for the Pirates closer who was an All-Star in 2022 and 2023. Bednar's ERA has swelled to 11.70 with a 1.60 WHIP and three blown save opportunities to go along with his five saves. His job doesn't seem to be in jeopardy at this point, but the Pirates and fantasy managers alike would relish some clean innings going forward.

Sun Apr 2809:10Ke'Bryan Hayes Hits First Home Run SaturdayKe'Bryan Hayes3BPiratesFree Agent
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes went 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Giants. The home run was a solo shot that came off of Giants lefty reliever Taylor Rogers in the tenth inning, right after Bryan Reynolds hit a two-run go-ahead home run to put the Pirates up 3-1. Hayes' blast added an insurance run that would prove pivotal, as the Pirates would go on to win by one run after Jorge Soler hit a two-run shot of his own in the bottom half of the inning to bring the Giants within a run. It was Hayes' second straight multi-hit effort and eleventh in 25 games, now hitting .281 on the season with nine RBI and 12 runs scored. While the 27-year-old is off to a solid start, managers are likely somewhat disappointed in his power output so far and the fact that he has zero stolen bases after totaling 30 over the past two seasons.

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds blasted an extra-inning go-ahead two-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Giants. The switch-hitter went 2-for-5 in the game with the home run breaking a 1-1 tie in the top of the tenth inning. The home run came off of the Giants' LHP Taylor Rogers and was the first home run of the year that Reynolds has hit off of a lefty with his other three coming off righties. The 29-year-old is having a solid season thus far, posting a .264/.372/.418 slash line with four home runs, 17 RBI, 11 runs scored, two stolen bases, and a strong 14.7% BB% through 28 games.

Sat Apr 2723:57Jose Siri Removed From Saturday's Game For Lack Of HustleJose SiriCFRedsFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri was removed from Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox in the third inning due to lack of hustle. According to Rays manager Kevin Cash, Siri was pulled out of the game because he disliked how he went after an Eloy Jimenez double in the second inning. Niko Goodrum replaced him for defense in the third inning. Siri went 0-for-1 with a strikeout before being removed. Cash also said he considers the issue over, with no carryover. Siri could be back in the lineup in the series finale. The 28-year-old struggled this season, slashing .179/.270/.269 with a home run, six RBI, nine runs, and six stolen bases over 26 games. Siri is mainly an option in deep leagues until he can turn things around at the plate.

Sat Apr 2723:44Jon Berti Set For Rehab Assignment On SundayJon Berti2BMarlinsFree Agent
New York Yankees utility player Jon Berti (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Sunday. Berti was placed on the injured list two weeks ago with a left groin strain. The 34-year-old will begin a rehab assignment on Sunday and could be activated from the injured list as soon as next week. He is slashing .211/.250/.211 with an RBI and two runs scored over six games in 2024. Berti qualifies at second base, third base, shortstop, and outfield in most leagues but is mainly a fantasy option in AL-Only or deep-league formats when he returns from the injured list.

The 28-year-old's scoreless inning streak ended 32 2/3 frames after he surrendered a solo shot to Eguy Rosario in the eighth inning. His breakout season continues as Suarez owns a 1.32 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts over 41 innings in 2024. Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson (hand) was removed from Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers for precautionary reasons. Stephenson was hit in the right hand by a pitch and replaced in the game by Luke Maile. The 27-year-old went 1-for-2 with a run scored before being removed. According to Reds manager David Bell, the removal of Stephenson was precautionary. Stephenson avoided a severe injury and could be back for Sunday's series finale against the Rangers. He is slashing .231/.338/.415 with three home runs, 10 RBI, 12 runs, and a stolen base over 23 games in 2024. Stephenson is expected to be fine and solid fantasy option in two-catcher formats.

Sat Apr 2722:00Paul Sewald's Rehab Slowed Due To SorenessPaul SewaldRPMetsFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Paul Sewald (oblique) will have his rehab slowed a bit due to soreness. He was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday but was scrapped after feeling soreness during a rehab stint with Triple-A Reno. The 33-year-old has been sidelined all season with a strained left oblique. He was on track to return from the injured list soon, but Sewald needs more time to recover from his oblique strain. Kevin Ginkel will continue to be Arizona's primary closer while Sewald is sidelined. Ginkel has been solid handling ninth-inning duties for the D-Backs, converting 4-of-6 saves while posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and an 11:2 K: BB across 10 1/3 innings.

Sat Apr 2717:31Andres Gimenez Returns To Guardians Lineup On SaturdayAndrés GiménezSSMetsFree Agent
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is back in the Guardians lineup and hitting second for Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. Gimenez was out on Friday against Braves' southpaw Chris Sale but gets a matchup today against Charlie Morton. The lefty has never faced Morton in his career. He's hitting for a fairly average .664 OPS but has been hitting better on the road, increasing his OPS to .785 away from Progressive Field. Charlie Morton has fared much worse against lefties in 2024, putting Gimenez in a favorable matchup. Those looking for an option in DFS formats may want to entertain adding the Guardians' lefty into their lineup on Saturday night.
