Sat Feb 15 201412:27Ryan Cook not worried about shoulder
Ryan Cook indicated Saturday that he isn't worried at all about the inflammation in his right shoulder.
Cook was expected to be shut down for a week or two to correct the issue, but he is reportedly already throwing again at a distance of 75 feet. He should have no difficulty getting himself ready in time for Opening Day.

Fri Feb 14 201415:27Ryan Cook sidelined with shoulder soreness
Ryan Cook will be shut down for the next week or two due to right shoulder inflammation.
A's manager Bob Melvin thinks the reliever will still have time to get ready by Opening Day, but we'll just have to see how he progresses. The good news is that it doesn't appear to be serious, and Oakland has the depth to withstand losing Cook for a little while if that's what it comes to.

Wed Jul 24 201317:42Ryan Cook records save for Athletics
Ryan Cook recorded the final four outs in a 4-3 game for a save as the A's edged the Astros 4-3 on Wednesday.
Grant Balfour had the day off after his rocky outing last night, allowing Cook to pick up his second save of the year. Cook has allowed just an unearned run over 10 2/3 innings in his last 10 appearances, picking up two wins in the span. His ERA is down to 2.25.

Sun May 19 201319:52Ryan Cook earned first save of season on Sunday against Royals
Ryan Cook earned his first save of the season on Sunday against the Royals.
With both Grant Balfour and Sean Doolittle unavailable, Cook came out to close the ninth inning. Balfour has converted his last 26 saves, so he isn't in danger of losing his job.

Sat Aug 11 201217:29Ryan Cook to be given a break from closing
A's manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that Ryan Cook's next two appearances will not be save chances.
Melvin made sure to state that Cook has not lost the ninth-inning job. Rather, Melvin wants the young right-hander to get a couple clean innings in less high-pressure situations. Look for Grant Balfour to handle save opportunities in the immediate future for Oakland. He's a decent add in mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed Aug 8 201219:29Ryan Cook struggles, earns save anyway
Ryan Cook recorded his 12th save despite giving up two runs in the ninth Wednesday against the Angels.
It's probably time the A's to go back to Grant Balfour in the closer's role. Cook managed to finish off the Angels tonight, but it's the sixth time in eight appearances that he's given up at least one run. He's blown four saves during that span.

Sun Aug 5 201214:50Ryan Cook's closer job could be in jeopardy
Athletics manager Bob Melvin failed to give Ryan Cook a vote of confidence when asked about his closer situation Sunday, saying "we'll continue to monitor that."
Cook has blown four of his last six save chances and has watched his ERA go from 1.34 to 2.47 over his last seven appearances. He's still probably the team's best option for the role, but it might not be a bad idea to give him a breather. Grant Balfour would figure to be used in the ninth inning if Melvin makes a change.

Sat Aug 4 201219:49Ryan Cook blows fourth save in six chances
Ryan Cook blew his fourth save in his last six chances on Saturday against the Blue Jays, allowing a solo home run to David Cooper in the ninth inning.
Cook was called upon to pitch for a third consecutive game, and was unable to preserve a critical lead for the A's. The only other time he pitched three straight games this season, he also blew a save opportunity. Given Cook's recent struggles, it wouldn't be shocking to see Grant Balfour get another opportunity in the stopper role.

Sat Aug 4 201201:12Ryan Cook blows three-run lead
Ryan Cook gave up a three-run homer to Toronto's Jeff Mathis in the ninth inning Friday to blow a save in Dan Straily's major league debut.
Ugly. Cook has now blown three of his last four save chances, but since the previous two blown saves came in games the A's went on to win, they were quickly forgotten. His job as Oakland's closer likely remains safe for now, but one more misstep could cause Bob Melvin to go back to a committee in the ninth.

Sun Jul 1 201214:16Ryan Cook makes All-Star team
Ryan Cook was among the 2012 All-Star selections for the American League.
Cook has had a terrific year, but he certainly didn't deserve to go ahead of starters like Yu Darvish and Jake Peavy, who will have a shot to get in via the Final Vote. Also on the AL squad alongside Cook will be Matt Harrison, Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander, CC Sabathia, C.J. Wilson, Jered Weaver, Chris Sale, David Price, Joe Nathan, Jim Johnson, Chris Perez and Fernando Rodney.

Ryan Cook bounced back from Friday's blown save to pitch a hitless ninth in a 1-0 game Monday against the Mariners.

Sat Jun 23 201201:54Ryan Cook takes blown save, loss
Ryan Cook blew a 3-1 lead by giving up four runs in the ninth Friday against the Giants.
The A's were putting together a nice little run with some excellent pitching before things came crashing down on Cook tonight. He brought a 0.57 ERA into the game and ended it with a 1.71 mark after failing to retire any of the four batters he faced. Expect him to remain Oakland's closer unless he fails to bounce back next time out.

Wed Jun 20 201201:23Cook earns another save w/ shutout frame
Ryan Cook notched his fourth save on Tuesday by hurling a scoreless ninth against the Dodgers.
Cook has been outstanding since taking over as the Athletics' closer, allowing just two hits and two walks over 4 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out seven. The must-own closer has pushed his ERA down to 0.59 to go with a 0.85 WHIP.

Sat Jun 16 201219:42Ryan Cook notches third save of the week
Ryan Cook notched his third save of the week on Saturday afternoon, retiring the Padres in order.
Cook has been outstanding since taking over for as the Athletics' closer, allowing just two hits and one walk over three scoreless innings while striking out four. He's now done enough to solidify himself in that role and should be owned and started in all fantasy leagues going forward.

Tue Jun 12 201223:54Cook earns first career save in win over Rox
Ryan Cook earned his first career save by protecting a three-run lead Tuesday against the Rockies.
It wasn't easy. Cook put two runners on to start the inning before striking out two in a row and inducing a game-ending fielder's choice from Todd Helton. Grant Balfour tossed a pair of perfect innings to set up Cook, while Brian Fuentes was nowhere to be seen. A's manager Bob Melvin, of course, said over that weekend that he'd employ a closer-by-committee going forward. Cook looked like the best bet to lead Oakland in saves for the rest of the season at the time and Tuesday was certainly a nice step in that direction. The 24-year-old right-hander, acquired over the winter along with Jarrod Parker and Collin Cowgill from the Diamondbacks, has a 0.67 ERA and 0.89 WHIP on the season.

Sat Jun 9 201223:30Athletics to choose closer based on matchups
A's manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that he'll use Ryan Cook, Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes in save situations depending on matchups and availability.
Not a complete surprise, as it was expected that Fuentes would be removed from the role due to his ineffectiveness. Cook has been the best reliever in the A's bullpen, boasting an 0.69 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 26 innings. He looks like the strongest long-term option and should be scooped up immediately in all fantasy leagues.

Thu May 17 201218:03Cook tears nail on right middle finger
Ryan Cook tore the nail on his right middle finger during Thursday's game.
Cook was examined by a team trainer, but stayed in the game and earned his first major league victory. While it was clearly painful, it doesn't sound like a long-term concern. The 24-year-old right-hander has an 18/10 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 scoreless innings this season and could eventually be in line for save chances.

Mon May 14 201210:01A's Cook cruising in setup role
Ryan Cook has yielded just three hits and no runs through 16 2/3 innings of relief this season.
He has also fanned 16 batters and is sporting a 0.66 WHIP. Cook is probably next in line for saves should veteran lefty Brian Fuentes struggle in his new role.

Fri Dec 9 201120:19A's acquire RHP Cook in Cahill deal
Athletics acquired RHPs Ryan Cook and Jarrod Parker and OF Collin Cowgill from the Diamondbacks for RHP Trevor Cahill, LHP Craig Breslow and cash considerations.
Cook had a successful transition to the bullpen this past season in the minors, posting a 2.21 ERA and 62/22 K/BB ratio over 61 innings between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno. The 24-year-old right-hander wasn't nearly as effective in his first taste of the big leagues, posting an ugly 7.04 ERA over 12 appearances, but Oakland obviously sees something here. He'll likely compete for a bullpen job during spring training.

Thu Sep 1 201115:13D'Backs recall Cook
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Ryan Cook from Triple-A Reno.
Reno spent two short stints in the big league earlier this year, surrendering four runs in 1 2/3 innings. He won't be used in high-pressure situations down the stretch.
