"Darren did a good job setting the pace for this game."Collison started for only the third time all season and played a season-high 41 minutes. Collison, whose past season ended in March after he underwent core muscle surgery, said that he's 100 percent recovered and feels his healthiest in years, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports. "This injury was something I had since my Indiana years," Collison said. "This is going back three or four years ago. My doctor said I should have had surgery back then, but I just happened to have it [last March]. I've actually been playing hurt the last three years, I just didn't know it."
Collison was one of the Kings' more acclaimed offseason acquisitions heading into last season, and although he was able to record a career-best 16.1 points per game on a respectable 47.3 percent shooting mark, the injury limited him to just 45 games. With Collison justifiably optimistic about his health outlook following the surgery, he'll again be positioned to play a key role for the team, though he's more likely to see time off the ball following the Kings' signing of point guard Rajon Rondo. Collison has previous experience playing the two-guard spot during his time alongside Chris Paul in Los Angeles and has a capable shot from three-point range, so he seems capable of making the adjustment. However, the move to shooting guard likely hurts him from a fantasy perspective, as last season's average of 5.6 assists per game are almost certain to take a hit with Rondo now assuming most of the ball-handling duties.

Collison (hip) will play alongside Rajon Rondo at times this season, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports. "We have two guys who can take control of the team and play together and keep the pace of the game," coach George Karl said. "We can play with a lot of freedom and creativity but also play without turnovers."
That doesn't necessarily indicate both Collison and Rondo will start, but it potentially caps Ben McLemore's playing time if he's solely used as a shooting guard, a position he manned 96 percent of the time last season. The point-guard duo could work because Collison is a solid jump shooter, converting 48 percent of his mid-range attempts and 37 percent of his three-pointers last season, and Rondo is apt to control the game as the primary facilitator. Rondo is the favorite to start at point guard, heavily diminishing Collison's assists and playmaking duties. Also, Collison missed the final 33 games last season due to a hip surgery, and he's unlikely to retain his fantasy value from last season unless he's traded or Rondo suffers an injury.

Collison missed the final 43 games of the regular season after surgery to repair a core muscle injury in his hip ended his season. He was still productive in 45 games as the Kings' starting point guard, finishing with averages of a career-high 16.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists in in 35 minutes per game. He is still under contract with Sacramento for the next two seasons.
This was the first time since the 2010-11 season that Collison was a team's full-time starter, but unfortunately for he and the Kings, Collison's was cut far shorter than expected. While it is possible the point guard could have returned before season's end, the team was so far out of the playoff picture, that they likely stayed cautious. Despite this, when Collison was healthy, he was effective, recording three double-doubles and 10-plus points and eight-plus assists in 15 games on the year. He played consistently all year and failed to scored in double figures in just three games where he played a full workload. Going forward, it appears as though Collison will be the Kings' point guard of the near future, as the team looks to finally make a return to the playoffs behind him along side DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay. Not to mention that Sacramento is getting Collison for a good price (owed just over $10 million total for the next two years) given the very solid production he is giving them.

Collison (hip) will miss approximately six weeks after undergoing successful surgery Tuesday, NBA.com reports.

Collison (hip) will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a core muscle injury. He's expected to be evaluated again in 3-to-6 weeks.
Collison suffered the injury back on Feb. 5 and has not played since. Given the timing of the injury, it's likely Collison will miss the remainder of the season, which means Ray McCallum will likely emerge as the full-time starter, with Andre Miller coming off the bench. At the time of the injury, Collison was averaging 16.1 points, 5.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds in just under 35 minutes per game.

Collison (hip) met with a specialist Tuesday and his status remains uncertain going forward, the Sacramento Bee reports. "I think there's still discussions going on with doctors," coach George Karl said. "I think something will probably be known in the next couple of days. It's in the hands of interpretations and doctors."
Collison sat out his seventh straight game Wednesday as he continues to work back from a strained right hip flexor. He's yet to play since Karl took over the reins after the all-star break, but the coach said he's looking forward to getting Collison back in the fold. "His speed is the kind of point guard I like," Karl said. "I like the game to happen before the defense gets set. Ray (McCallum) can do that, but I think Darren is a little better than Ray, and when you have two, it's easier to play that way." McCallum has started the last three games in Collison's place after the Kings dealt Ramon Sessions to the Wizards. McCallum figures to remain the starter until Collison is able to return.
Tue Feb 24 201519:46Collison (hip) ruled out for Wednesday's game
Collison (hip) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game, Cowbell Kingdom's James Ham reports.
He has missed almost the last three weeks with a hip flexor strain, and should be considered day-to-day. He saw a specialist in Los Angeles on Tuesday, but we have yet to hear anything substantial about how that visit went. Andre Miller and Ray McCallum will get the action at the one with Collison out.
