Despaigne was solid in a no-decision Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over five innings, striking out three.

It's a step in the right direction for Despaigne, but it's still been nearly a month since he last managed to record a quality start, and his 4.75 ERA and 46:17 K:BB ratio in 83.3 innings aren't particularly fantasy-friendly. His next turn in the rotation comes Friday in Texas.

Despaigne suffered his sixth loss of the season Sunday against the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs (four earned) despite surrendering just three hits and no walks. He struck out six in defeat.

The Cuban was hardly hitable on the day but was unlucky to allow all five runs on homers, including one runner that reached via error and one who was hit by a pitch. Despaigne's ERA now sits at an ugly 4.94 on the season and he will look to bounce back Saturday against the Cardinals after not winning a start in the month of June.

Despaigne took a no decision Tuesday against the Giants as he allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out two.

Despaigne broke a streak of six straight starts with at least six innings pitched. He continues to pitch to contact, and even in the brief stretches where he has his whole arsenal of various pitches and pitch speeds working, his lack of a reliable strikeout pitch limits his fantasy value. His ERA is now 4.83.

Despaigne struggled in his first career start against the A's, giving up six runs to raise his ERA to 4.79. Since starting the season 2-0, Despaigne has lost five of his past six decisions and has yet to record more than five strikeouts in any of his ten starts this season. The 28-year-old will take the mound again Tuesday at San Francisco in his next scheduled start.

Despaigne went 6.1 innings in a no-decision Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out six in a 4-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Despaigne continues to fill in admirably, as he has gone at least six innings in his last five starts, allowing a total of just eight runs in that span. The downside with Despaigne is his lack of strikeouts, as he has not recorded more than five in any start this season. Despaigne's next start comes in Oakland on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Brandon Morrow had a setback in Sunday's rehab start, so Despaigne is in line for at least one more start, probably more. His next start will come against the Dodgers on Friday, with the Padres batting against Clayton Kershaw.

Despaigne will have his next scheduled start pushed back a day from Saturday to Sunday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Despaigne would have been pitching Saturday with an extra day of rest, but the Padres decided to give him an additional day after he tossed a career-high eight innings in his last start. Despaigne will now square off against the Reds on Sunday afternoon instead of Saturday.

Despaigne was excellent in a win over the Pirates on Sunday, allowing just one run through eight innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Cuban fell victim to a Gregory Polanco home run, but otherwise allowed just one extra base hit in his strong outing. Despaigne has thrown three straight quality starts after a terrible three-game stretch from late-April to early-May, and has actually not allowed more than two runs in any appearance outside of that miniature rough patch. The righty will next face a tough road matchup against the Reds on Saturday.

Despaigne started the game by walking Dexter Fowler then giving up a two-run home run to Kris Bryant. Those were his only mistakes of the game, as he held the Cubs scoreless for six innings after Bryant's homer. Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks shut out the Padres, and Despaigne picked up the loss. Despaigne will take the mound again in his next scheduled start Tuesday at the Angels.

Manager Bud Black indicated Saturday that Despagine will receive another start, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.

Despaigne has been blown up in each of his last two starts, allowing another seven runs on ten hits Friday to the Nationals. While he'll keep a spot in the rotation for now, Brandon Morrow will likely retake it upon his return.

Despaigne will have his next start pushed back to the Padres' series against the Nationals over the upcoming weekend, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Despaigne was initially in line to pitch Wednesday in Seattle, but because of the team off day Monday, the Padres elected to reset their rotation and keep ace James Shields on his normal rest. It's hard to quibble with the decision, given that Despaigne didn't exactly inspire much confidence after giving up eight runs on 10 hits over five innings last Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

After having won both of his previous starts this year, one of them against Arizona, Despaigne gave up four runs in the first and yielded two more runs in the third and in the fifth. Despaigne's next start will be at Seattle on Wednesday.

Despaigne will lose his spot in the starting rotation as Ian Kennedy has been confirmed as the starter for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

While Despaigne's 1.47 ERA in 18.1 innings is impressive, he is not the kind of pitcher who projects to have long-term success, as he relies on junk and deception. His 3.95 xFIP is a better gauge of his true talent, and his 15.7 percent career K-rate displays his lack of bat-missing stuff. He will likely take up a spot in the Padres' bullpen, serving as a replacement starter should another member of the rotation get injured.

Despaigne struck out five and walked two while giving up two runs on six hits over 6.2 innings in a winning effort against the Rockies on Monday.

Given the matchup and the environment, Despaigne's strong start Monday was a surprising outcome. He's now carrying a 1.47 ERA on the young season, but the Padres may bump him from the rotation this weekend as Ian Kennedy is nearing a return from the disabled list.

Despaigne, starting in place of the injured Ian Kennedy (hamstring), tied the Diamondbacks in knots to pick up the win Tuesday. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks, while striking out three over seven innings.

Despaigne was fantastic at Petco Park again, where he has allowed just 13 earned runs in 65.2 innings, good for a 1.78 ERA. If he makes another start in place of Kennedy, it could be at Coors Field, so beware - his career road ERA is 5.31.

The Cuban right-hander posted a 3.36 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 96.1 innings in 16 starts last season, but he only struck out 65 batters. If Despaigne does join the rotation for more than one start, his second outing will likely come at Coors Field.

Despaigne pitched 4.2 flawless innings to go along with a strikeout Thursday in a no-decision against the Giants.

After starter Ian Kennedy strained his left hamstring while making a pitch to Nori Aoki, Despaigne stepped in and went to work. He retired 14 straight batters through 4.2 perfect innings, and with Kennedy sidelined, he may have earned himself a temporary spot on the rotation.

Brandon Morrow has won the fifth starter job for San Diego with Despaigne moving to the bullpen, manager Bud Black told Fox Sports San Diego.

Despaigne had a 2.12 ERA this spring, but just a 11:6 K:BB ratio in 17 innings. He'll likely pitch in long relief and could get another shot at the rotation at some point.

Despaigne threw over 90 pitches in four-plus innings of work in a minor league game Tuesday, the Union-Tribune reports.

Despaigne finished Cactus League play with a 2.12 ERA over 17 innings of work, striking out 11 batters and allowing six walks. He has been stretched out to 90 or more pitches in his last two outings (official statistics were not kept for Tuesday's minor league game). While Despaigne had a strong showing this spring, Brandon Morrow still remains the favorite to win the fifth rotation spot out of camp. If Despaigne loses out on the starting gig, he'll likely be kept on the 25-man roster as the Padres' long reliever.
