Thu Jun 26 201409:09Hale to make spot start Saturday vs. Philly
David Hale will make a spot start for the Braves in Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies.
Hale has a 3.14 ERA in 48 2/3 innings this season for the Braves, but he's been pitching out of the bullpen since early May and is doubtful to go very long on Saturday in Philadelphia. The 26-year-old right-hander can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Tue Apr 29 201416:42David Hale getting bumped to Braves' bullpen
David Hale will be moved to the Braves' bullpen Friday.
Mike Minor (shoulder) is returning Friday against the Giants, so Hale gets the demotion despite posting a 2.31 ERA in four starts. He should be in line for a spot start down the road, but for now will pitch in long relief.

Sat Apr 26 201421:41David Hale dominates as Braves defeat Reds
David Hale tossed eight innings of one-run ball Saturday in the Braves' 4-1 win over the Reds.
Hale allowed just two Cincinnati hits, and they both came in the first inning. He struck out four and watched his ERA drop from 2.93 to 2.31 in the dominant outing. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old right-hander is likely to lose his rotation spot next week when Mike Minor (shoulder) is activated. But he'll be worth re-adding in fantasy leagues if he gets another shot down the road.

Sun Apr 20 201418:03Hale allows two earned in no-decision Sunday
David Hale allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits over six innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Mets.
Hale allowed one-out singles to David Wright and Daniel Murphy in the sixth inning but appeared to induce a double play ball to end the inning. Instead, Dan Uggla's error allowed an unearned run to score, tying the game and robbing Hale of his first win of the year. Despite the disappointing result, Hale owns a 2.93 ERA through three starts. He'll face the surprisingly tough Marlins lineup on Friday.

Tue Apr 15 201417:53David Hale to be skipped in Braves' rotation
David Hale will be skipped in the Braves' rotation.
Hale was scheduled to pitch against the Phillies on Tuesday, but the game was postponed due to rain. Julio Teheran will stay on his normal schedule and pitch Wednesday, and Alex Wood will start Thursday's series finale.

Thu Apr 10 201423:24David Hale gets lifted in fifth
David Hale walked five while allowing four runs -- three earned -- in 4 1/3 innings Thursday against the Mets.
Hale impressed in his season debut last week against the Nationals, throwing five scoreless innings, but the wildness that plagued him this spring returned tonight. He'll probably lose his rotation spot once Mike Minor comes off the DL in two weeks.

Wed Mar 19 201417:12David Hale gives up three runs to Yankees
David Hale gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Yankees.
Hale walked three today after issuing two free passes total in his previous three starts. He'll have a spot in Atlanta's rotation initially next month as a result of all of the team's injuries. He might be pushed back into middle relief by mid-to-late April, but he could still have some NL-only value there.

Fri Mar 14 201416:16David Hale holds Rays to one run
David Hale pitched four innings of one-run ball Friday against the Rays.
With Brandon Beachy set to go on the DL and perhaps spend considerable time there, Hale's stock would seem to be on the rise. He could help out in the rotation early next month while Mike Minor and Ervin Santana build stamina and then serve as a swingman afterwards. He's a candidate to have some value in NL-only leagues.

Sat Mar 8 201416:35David Hale gives up two runs to Nationals
David Hale surrendered two runs and four hits in two innings Saturday against the Nationals.
Hale is intriguing, but his chances of making the Braves seem rather slim at the moment. To have any chance at all, he'll need Alex Wood to beat out Freddy Garcia for a rotation spot, leaving an opening in middle relief.

Thu Sep 26 201322:59David Hale beats Phillies in spot start
David Hale held the Phillies to one run in six innings to pick up a win in his spot start Thursday.
Hale might have gotten a long look in the second half had he pitched for another team. The Braves did give him two spot starts this month, and he impressed with a 0.82 ERA and 14/1 K/BB ratio in 11 innings. It probably won't get him a spot on the postseason roster, though, and he'll likely still be on the outside looking in next spring.

Tue Sep 24 201321:15David Hale to make a spot start Thursday
David Hale will start on Thursday against the Phillies.
With Alex Wood being shifted to the bullpen as he preps for his postseason role, the Braves need a spot starter. Hale struck out nine batters over five scoreless innings in a spot start earlier this month and is worth a streaming look in NL-only leagues if you're digging deep.

Fri Sep 13 201322:53Hale strikes out nine batters in MLB debut
David Hale struck out nine batters over five scoreless innings in his major league debut Friday against the Padres.
Making a spot start in place of Paul Maholm, Hale held the Padres to four hits and one walk. However, the bullpen blew his chance at a victory. The nine strikeouts set a new franchise record for a major league debut. It's not clear if he'll make another start, but he has earned the opportunity for another look if the Braves elect to give Maholm some extra time. It's worth noting that Hale wasn't known as a strikeout pitcher in the minors (6.0 K/9 this year in Triple-A), so don't rush to the waiver wire to pick him up.

Wed Sep 11 201316:57David Hale to make spot start on Friday night
David Hale will make a spot start for the Braves in Friday night's series-opener with the Padres.
It's a nice matchup, but Hale doesn't have dominant minor league numbers and is not a good streamer at this point in the fantasy season. He is filling in for Paul Maholm, who is being bothered by left elbow discomfort.

Thu Sep 5 201312:30Braves recall David Hale from Triple-A level
Braves recalled RHP David Hale from Triple-A Gwinnett.
It will be his first experience at the major league level. Hale registered a 3.22 ERA and 77/36 K/BB ratio in 114 2/3 innings this summer at the Triple-A level. He will serve as a middle reliever for the Braves.

Wed Mar 13 201323:12David Hale optioned
Braves optioned RHP David Hale to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Dale did a nice job this spring, posting a 3.00 ERA while striking out eight over nine innings, but he never a real shot at an Opening Day roster spot. He'll be part of Gwinnett's rotation.
