Tue Aug 18 201517:37Hale (groin) activated from DL on Tuesday
Hale (groin) was activated from the DL on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Eddie Butler was optioned down Friday, opening the door for Hale to step back into the rotation following a six-plus-week stint on the DL with a groin injury. He will start Tuesday against Jordan Zimmermann and the Nationals at Coors Field. Hale has struggled to a 5.69 ERA in 49 innings this season, with his groundball rate falling close to eight percent from a year ago (from 56% to 48.1%).

Colorado Rockies pitcher David Hale was activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals after recovering from a groin injury, according to MLB.com. Hale missed nearly six weeks with the injury, but he will return after a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque.
Fri Aug 14 201518:11Hale likely candidate to start Tuesday's game against Nationals
Hale is the likely candidate to start Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Jenny Cavnar of ROOT Sports reports.
Hale is on the DL with a groin issue, but he has made three rehab starts (with little success) at Triple-A, and the Rockies need someone to step into the rotation after Eddie Butler was optioned on Friday. He has a 4.04 career ERA as a starter, so he's not bad by Rockies' standards, but there is still limited upside here from a fantasy perspective.
Sat Aug 1 201511:20Hale (groin) made rehab start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday
Hale (groin) made a rehab start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. He covered 2.2 innings and gave up five earned runs on five hits and two walks.
Hale looked far from sharp in his first competitive outing since July 9, but on a more encouraging note, he didn't seem to suffer any notable setbacks with the groin. The Rockies will look for him to build up his pitch count in his next one or two rehab starts before determining whether or not he's fit to rejoin the big-league rotation.
Wed Jul 22 201510:28Hale (groin) tossed 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday
Hale (groin) tossed a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
It's the second bullpen session for Hale since he was placed on the DL with a left groin strain July 10. The Rockies have opted to go with a four-man rotation temporarily during Hale's absence, but will need to add a fifth starter July 28. It's not clear at this juncture if Hale would be ready to come off the DL and take the ball on that date.
Fri Jul 10 201518:46Hale (groin) placed on 15-day DL on Friday
Hale (groin) was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Heavy rain in Colorado on Thursday led to a long delay and an abbreviated outing for Kyle Kendrick, and Hale was called upon to provide the Rockies with some length when play resumed. He only made it 1.2 innings, though, as a groin strain forced him off the hill and has now sent him to the DL. The strain has been deemed "mild," though it's uncertain if Hale will be ready to return when first eligible.

The Rockies announced that Hale left Thursday's outing with a mild left groin strain.
Hale, who was Friday's scheduled starter, came on in long relief Thursday after a two hour rain delay. It remains to be seen whether Hale will require a stint on the DL, but he'll have time to rest the injury over the All-Star break.

Hale left Thursday's outing after 1.2 innings with an undisclosed injury, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
After a rain delay forced Thursday's starter, Kyle Kendrick, from the game, Hale entered to face the Braves when play resumed. Hale was initially tabbed as Friday's starter, but the Rockies will likely have to shuffle the rotation in light of the situation and Hale's injury. An update on Hale's status should be made available following Thursday's contest.

Hale came into Thursday's game to replace Kyle Kendrick following a two-plus hour rain delay.
Friday's scheduled start is out the window for Hale with the Rockies calling upon him to replace Kendrick, who threw just eight pitches before the rain became too much. It's uncertain who will start Friday for Colorado, but the team could just move Jorge De La Rosa up as he would still be on normal rest.

Hale allowed five runs on nine hits over seven innings in a loss Monday against Oakland.
Hale served up three home runs and how now given up 11 in 42.1 innings, and his 2.34 HR/9 now leads the majors among all pitchers with at least 40 innings pitched. With Hale pitching half his games at Coors Field, it's hard to see a light at the end of this tunnel. His ERA is up to 5.95.

Hale lasted 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out two Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Hale has seen his ERA increase in each of his last four starts, and he failed to make it through the fifth inning for the first time this season. Over his past three starts -- all Rockies losses -- he's given up 14 runs in his last 15.2 innings. Hale will look to bounce back in his next start Monday at Oakland.

Hale (2-2) was on the losing end of Thursday's 8-4 decision against the Astros. He surrendered five runs on 10 hits over five innings, but tied a career high with nine strikeouts.
Hale and the relievers that followed him were able to induce plenty of whiffs against the MLB's most strikeout-prone team, finishing with a Rockies club record 17 batters in a nine-inning game. However, the Astros punished Hale when it mattered most, going 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Hale has been quite capable as a fill-in starter for the Rockies with a 28:4 K:BB ratio over 30.2 innings, but his 5.28 ERA and 1.27 WHIP might not be in line for dramatic improvement his next time out against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, a start that will once again come at Coors Field.

Hale (2-1) took the loss Saturday in Miami after allowing four runs on four hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out five.
One of the walks was intentional, so don't get too concerned about Hale's control -- after all, he had exactly zero walks coming into this game. Much more concerning is the fact that he kept the ball on the ground Saturday (10 groundballs, five flies) and yet still gave up his sixth home run in 25.2 innings spanning four starts. That kind of profile simply won't play well at Coors Field, where Hale will host the Astros on Thursday.

Hale will stick in the Rockies' rotation after Eddie Butler was demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Hale earned his stay with the Rockies after delivering two strong spot starts during the team's current homestand. Though he was able to whiff seven Cardinals in his most recent turn Monday, Hale typically finds success by keeping the ball on the ground and finding the strike zone. He has yet to issue a walk in his 19.2 innings with the Rockies this season.
Wed Jun 10 201509:14David Hale: Staying In Rockies' Rotation
Colorado Rockies pitcher David Hale will remain in the starting rotation after pitcher Eddie Butler was demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, according to the Denver Post.
Colorado Rockies pitcher David Hale will remain in the starting rotation after pitcher Eddie Butler was demoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, according to the Denver Post. Hale has yet to issue a walk in 19.2 innings this season and cemented his spot in the rotation with a pair of strong outings during the team's recent home stand in which he struck out 12 batters and forced 17 ground balls.

Hale picked up his second victory Tuesday as he held the Cardinals to three runs and six hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Hale served up a pair of solo home runs but otherwise held a strong Cardinals lineup in check. Hale has given up seven home runs in four starts, but his 4.12 ERA might be good enough for the Rockies to give him an extended opportunity.

Hale has been officially recalled to start Monday's game against the Cardinals, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Hale will make a second run at the rotation Monday after allowing four runs on seven hits in his last outing. Unfortunately, he'll once again face a tough opponent (Cardinals) at hitter-friendly Coors Field. The team placed Rafael Betancourt on the disabled list to open up a spot on the 25-man roster.

The Rockies are expected to recall Hale to start Monday against the Cardinals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Chad Bettis will indeed be moved back to Wednesday, opening the door for Hale to return for his third start of the season. Hale hasn't issued a walk in 12.2 with Colorado, but he has given up 15 hits -- including three homers in his last outing -- resulting in a 4.26 ERA.
Fri Jun 5 201514:30Updating previous report
Updating a previous report, Hale will not be called up to start Monday's game against the Cardinals, with Chad Bettis likely to get the start, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
It was just an erroneous report. The Rockies are pushing Jorge De La Rosa back to Tuesday, but following Thursday's off day, Chad Bettis will be able to start Monday's game on four days' rest. Hale is still one of the Rockies' top options in the event a spot starter is needed.
Fri Jun 5 201514:06Hale will be called up to start against Cardinals on Monday
Hale will be called up to start against the Cardinals on Monday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
The Rockies are shuffling their rotation, pushing Jorge De La Rosa back to Tuesday, possibly to give his troublesome finger a few extra days to heal. Hale will thus be needed for a spot start, but his stay in the majors probably won't last long.
