Sat Oct 30 2010 | 00:14 | Jones hits three more treys in win |
James Jones, who had six 3-pointers in his previous game, hit three more Friday for nine points. |
He's worth a look if you specifically need threes, but that's about all he's going to offer, and he will also be inconsistent coming off the bench. |
Thu Oct 28 2010 | 00:06 | James Jones bangs six treys in win |
James Jones came off the bench to nail six 3-pointers in Wednesday's win over the Sixers. |
Jones is one of the best 3-point shooters in the league, so nights like this are going to happen while Mike Miller is out. It will just be very difficult to predict when. Still, Jones is going to see 22-28 minutes nightly for the next month or so and is a deep option as a strict 3-point bomber. |
Thu Oct 21 2010 | 13:24 | Jones will start tonight |
James Jones will start for the Heat in tonight's preseason game. |
With Dwyane Wade (hamstring) and Mike Miller (thumb) both out, Jones is getting the nod. He'll like take Miller's role as the first swingman off the bench once the season starts, but won't see enough shots to really be relevant. |

Free agent swingman James Jones has decided to re-sign with the Heat, agreeing to a one-year deal worth the veteran's minimum. |
"I have to come back. This is not something I could pass up," said Jones, who was bought out of his existing contract (by the Heat) in June. He should get plenty of wide-open 3-point attempts this year, but may not get enough minutes to be a viable fantasy option in average leagues. |

Tue Jul 13 2010 | 17:47 | Spurs taking a hard look at James Jones |
The Spurs are taking a "hard look" at signing swingman James Jones, according to Fanhouse.com. |
Jones would provide some perimeter scoring punch for San Antonio, but he's likely to fill a backup role wherever he lands. His contract was bought out by the Heat this summer as they purged payroll to land their star trio. |
Tue Jun 29 2010 | 15:27 | Heat complete buyout of James Jones |
The Heat have completed a buyout of James Jones' contract, paying him an initial installment of $1.9 million to walk away from the final three years of his contract. |
Jones would have made a guaranteed $4.7 million in 2010-11 if he wasn't bought out by Wednesday, and the cap-conscious Heat weren't going to let that happen. Miami got an unexpected bonus since Jones' amortized salary will only count $1.5 million against the cap. |

Thu Jun 24 2010 | 14:29 | Heat working on James Jones buy out |
The Heat, who currently have just three players under contract for next season, are now trying to work on a buy out of James Jones' contract. |
Jones has $15.5 remaining on his deal through 2012-13, but those final three seasons are only partially guaranteed if he's waived by June 30. Waiving Jones would knock another $2.8 million off the Heat's salary cap for next season, giving them roughly $27 million to spend on free agents. They're also trying to trade Michael Beasley and are awaiting word on whether Joel Anthony is going to opt-in. The Heat are clearly setting themselves up to create a dream team by adding LeBron James and Chris Bosh as Dwyane Wade's teammates. |
