Tucker (shoulder) underwent shoulder right surgery Wednesday for a torn right shoulder labrum, and he'll miss 10-12 months, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Tucker, who was the Pirates' first-round pick in 2014, has performed relatively well this season. In 73 games with High-A West Virginia, the 18-year-old has batted .293/.322/.377 with two home runs, 25 RBI and 25 stolen bases. While he doesn't possess a ton of power, he has displayed some speed on the basepaths. However, the 10-12 months of missed time will likely set him back a bit in his progression up the organizational ladder.

The shortstop is expected to receive a second opinion after experiencing shoulder discomfort since late July. Tucker batted .293 with a .699 OPS in his first season with High-A West Virginia.

Tucker, who has been out the last five days for an undisclosed reason, is slashing .266/.289/.325 with two home runs and 15 steals in 186 plate appearances with Low-A West Virginia.
Tucker is still just 18 years old and he is striking out at just a 12.4 percent clip in full season ball, which speaks to his potential hit tool. There is a chance for 50-plus grade tools across the board, but it will be at least three years before Tucker is an option at the big league level.
