Right-hander Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels is slated to see a spine specialist as he continues to struggle with issues in his neck.Weaver, 33, was recently diagnosed with mild degenerative changes in his cervical spine and was scratched from his upcoming scheduled start on Monday.Weaver has previously been examined by team doctors and he underwent an MRI exam on Thursday."We're going to meet whatever needs Jered has right now," Angels manager Mike Scioscia told reporters.Weaver struggled in Wednesday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing three home runs in only 2 2/3 innings. His velocity was noticeably down in comparison to past seasons.Weaver, who will make $20 million this season, has a 138-81 career record with a 3.40 ERA and 1,495 strikeouts.

RHP Jered Weaver arrived at the team's Tempe, Ariz., facility on Thursday morning reporting tightness in his neck and was immediately sent for a precautionary MRI. Weaver struggled on the mound a day earlier during a 13-13 tie with the Dodgers, allowing three home runs and watching his fastball top out at 81 mph.

RHP Jered Weaver hopes an offseason conditioning program will restore at least some of his lost velocity as he enters the final season of his five-year contract. With his fastball averaging just 85 mph, Weaver experienced the worst season of his career last year. The 33-year-old right-hander finished with a 7-12 record and a 4.64 earned-run average. Until last year, Weaver never won fewer than 11 games or compiled an ERA higher than 4.33 in any previous season. Weaver needs one victory to surpass Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and move into second place on the club's list of career wins.

Weaver didn't factor into the decision in Friday's win over the Rangers, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out two over six innings.
Both of the hits Weaver surrendered were extra-base knocks off of the bat of Shin-Soo Choo, a fourth-inning blast serving as the fifth homer Weaver has given up this month. That's been Weaver's problem this season, when he's hit, he tends to get hit hard. The .460 slugging percentage batters have against him would rank sixth worst among starters if Weaver pitched enough innings to qualify. More disturbingly, Weaver has begun dishing out more and more free passes. After notching a 1.4 BB/9 ratio in his first 19 outings, Weaver has more than doubled his rate to 3.43 K/9 in his last seven starts. High walk rates and a penchant for allowing extra-base hits tend not to mix well together.

Weaver (shoulder) will return to the mound Friday against the Rangers.
Weaver left his last start Sunday with shoulder tightness, but it appears that the issue was relatively minor in nature. He appears good to go for Friday's matchup with the Rangers in what will be his last start of the 2015 season.

Weaver exited Sunday's game against the Mariners with shoulder tightness, Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times reports.
Weaver threw 5.0 strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three. At this point, it's unclear whether the shoulder ailment puts Weaver's next start in jeopardy, but at this point he should be considered day-to-day. Fernando Salas earned the win for the Angles, improving his record to 5-2 on the season.

Weaver fell to 7-12 as he allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Weaver continues to have the worst season of his career. His ERA is up to 4.86, just the second time in 10 seasons he has posted an ERA over 4.00. He will finish under .500 for the first time in those 10 years. His nine-year streak of posting an ERA+ over 100 is over as well. At 33, Weaver is already old for a starting pitcher, and chances are he'll have to find a way to get his average fastball over 85 MPH if he's going to be a successful starting pitcher again.

Weaver (7-11) picked up the loss after getting ejected Wednesday, as he allowed three runs on six hits over 4.2 innings in a loss to the Mariners.
Weaver was ejected for hitting Kyle Seager and he probably hurt his feelings more than anything, as it was an 80-plus MPH fastball. The righty had already thrown 78 pitches up to that point, so it's very possible he only had one more inning left in him anyway. A pitcher with such minimal velocity should not thrive off flyballs the way Weaver does, but that was the case here as he induced just one groundball. Weaver has induced more flyballs than groundballs in his last five outings and that's not a good sign going forward. His next scheduled start is Monday against the Astros, but that's up in the air as a suspension if possible after the beaning.

Weaver was ejected from Wednesday's game in the fifth inning for hitting Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Apparently, Weaver was upset that Seager called for time before he threw a pitch, and after some jawing back and forth between the two, Weaver plunked him. The right-hander was promptly ejected without warning. Prior to being ejected, Weaver gave up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over 4.2 innings. It's uncertain if this incident will draw further discipline from Major League Baseball.

Weaver (7-10) pitched well on Friday, striking out seven batters while allowing two runs on five hits and two walks across six innings in a win over the Astros.
The only runs that Weaver allowed were off a two-run homer by Carlos Gomez and it's hard to say that was even a mistake, considering the pitch likely would have landed in the dirt if Gomez didn't reach for it. The last two outings have been spectacular for the veteran, as he has not allowed more than five hits in either game. While the velocity is down, Weaver still has a canny ability to fool hitters and still post quality outings. He'll look to continue his crafty ways against the Mariners next Wednesday.

Weaver (6-10) took a no-decision Saturday, going six innings while giving up an earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three in a 2-1 loss to the Rangers.
After getting shellacked in each of his previous two outings, Weaver pitched well but didn't receive the necessary run support to earn a victory against the Rangers. While his Saturday outing was a step in the right direction, Weaver's abysmal 4.78 K/9 bars him from substantial mixed league value. The 32-year-old is slated to take the mound Saturday against the Astros.

Weaver (6-10) took the loss Sunday against Cleveland, allowing eight runs and nine hits and four walks while striking out two over six innings.
Weaver fell behind 2-0 in the first inning before being done in by an Abraham Almonte grand slam in the fifth inning and leading to the loss. After allowing four earned runs over his first three August starts, he now has given up 14 runs over his last two appearances. He'll make his next start Saturday against Texas.

Weaver allowed six runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings, but was able to pick up a win against the Tigers on Tuesday. He struck out one batter and did not issue a walk in the contest.
Weaver didn't allow a hit through the first two frames, but ran into trouble when a misplay in the outfield led to a four-run third inning. The 32-year-old exited the game after surrendering a two-run shot to catcher James McCann in the fifth, but the team was able to hold on to an 8-6 victory. Weaver had been excellent in his three previous outings, allowing just four runs over that span, but he continues to look like a risky play, as he now carries a K/9 rate under 5.00, and has allowed 18 home runs in 19 games. He will take a 4.59 ERA into his next start against the Indians on Sunday.
