3B David Wright (back) was a late scratch from the lineup Tuesday, when the Mets edged the Nationals, 2-0. Wright has received regular days off this season as he and the Mets try to manage his spinal stenosis, a condition with which he was diagnosed last May. But Tuesday marked the first time Wright had to be pulled from the lineup on a day he expected to play. He said Tuesday night he didn't feel good prior to arriving at the ballpark and that his back didn't respond as he'd hoped to his usual pre-game routine. Wright said he wasn't sure if he would be able to play Wednesday but added he hoped taking off Tuesday saved him a trip to the disabled list. Wright is batting .229 with four homers and eight RBIs in 30 games this season.

3B David Wright had a World Series home debut to remember Friday, when he went 2-for-5 with four RBIs in the Mets' 9-3 win over the Royals in Game 3. Wright hit a two-run homer in his first World Series at-bat at home in the first inning. In the sixth inning, Wright's two-run single ended a four-run outburst by the Mets that put the game away. The four RBIs were one shy of the Mets' World Series record, set by Rusty Staub in 1973. It was only the third multi-hit game of the postseason for Wright, who is hitting .196 with one homer and seven RBIs in 12 games.

3B David Wright went 0-for-4 on Wednesday, leaving him 2-for-11 (.182) through the first two World Series games. He had problems with Royals RHP Johnny Cueto. "He threw three or four different pitches for strikes in many counts," Wright said. "Then he kind of keeps you off-balance with the quick pitch, then he kind of takes his time a little bit. As a hitter, it's all about timing, and he disrupted it tonight for sure. I mean, just four excellent pitches, throwing them for strikes in any count. When you give that guy a lead, he can pound the zone with all those different types of pitches. He definitely keeps you off-balance."

Wright is out of the lineup Thursday against the Phillies.

With a postseason spot already locked up, manager Terry Collins is resting the majority of his veterans, including Wright. In his stead, Eric Campbell will man third base.

Wright is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Adam Rubin of ESPN reports.

After clinching the NL East on Saturday, the Mets are rolling out backups at every position but left field and pitcher and Wright is one of the players hitting the bench. Eric Campbell will get the start at third base, batting sixth.
