3B David Wright (back) was a late scratch from the lineup Tuesday, when the Mets edged the Nationals, 2-0. Wright has received regular days off this season as he and the Mets try to manage his spinal stenosis, a condition with which he was diagnosed last May. But Tuesday marked the first time Wright had to be pulled from the lineup on a day he expected to play. He said Tuesday night he didn't feel good prior to arriving at the ballpark and that his back didn't respond as he'd hoped to his usual pre-game routine. Wright said he wasn't sure if he would be able to play Wednesday but added he hoped taking off Tuesday saved him a trip to the disabled list. Wright is batting .229 with four homers and eight RBIs in 30 games this season.

Wright was diagnosed with spinal stenosis last season and is expected to need regular rest for the remainder of his career. 3B David Wright went 0-for-6 with four strikeouts Wednesday against the Phillies, and he was involved in the decisive play in the 11th inning. With runners at second and third and two outs in a tie game, Peter Bourjos grounded a ball down the third base line. Wright backhanded the ball but bounced his throw belatedly to first base, allowing Bourjos to reach base and Freddy Galvis to score the winning run. "I knew he was a fast runner," Wright said. "It was a catch-and-release type of thing. I knew the only way I would get him was if he stumbled out of the box."

He also raised his total in Citizens Bank Park, already the most by a visiting player, to 22. "Maybe it's just I've played here so much," he said. "Can't explain it. 3B David Wright remains confident he will be ready for Opening Day. Wright rested longer than usual this offseason to take as much strain off his back as possible, and he is about three to four weeks behind where he normally would be at this point in spring training. It was only the third multi-hit game of the postseason for Wright, who is hitting .196 with one homer and seven RBIs in 12 games.
Sat Oct 31 201500:405 things we know entering World Series Game 4
Here are five things we know about the World Series heading into Game 4 on Saturday in New York: --The captain's bat might have returned for the Mets. Third baseman David Wright's second foray into postseason play had not gone well until Friday when he hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs. He had three RBIs in the postseason before Friday and seven hits in 41 at-bats. Wright seemed aggressive in his at-bats, driving a 0-1 fastball from right-hander Yordano Ventura into the left-center field seats with nobody out in the first. In the sixth, with the Mets already up 6-3, Wright stroked a first-pitch fastball from right-hander Kelvin Herrera. Wright's performance were the most RBIs by a Met in a World Series game since Rusty Staub in Game Four in 1973 against Oakland.-- The Mets may have the advantage on the bench. With the series shifting to New York and the pitcher having to bat, the benches figured to be more prominent. The Mets had Juan Uribe on their bench in a key spot and he continued... [More]

3B David Wright went 0-for-4 on Wednesday, leaving him 2-for-11 (.182) through the first two World Series games. He had problems with Royals RHP Johnny Cueto. "He threw three or four different pitches for strikes in many counts," Wright said. "Then he kind of keeps you off-balance with the quick pitch, then he kind of takes his time a little bit. As a hitter, it's all about timing, and he disrupted it tonight for sure. I mean, just four excellent pitches, throwing them for strikes in any count. When you give that guy a lead, he can pound the zone with all those different types of pitches. He definitely keeps you off-balance."
