Fri Jul 15 201118:51D-Backs remove LHP Duke from rotation
The Diamondbacks have removed Zach Duke from the starting rotation.
Barry Enright will be called up from the minors to take his spot next Tuesday against the Brewers. Duke, 28, has an ugly 5.47 ERA over nine starts with the D-Backs this season. Not exactly what Kevin Towers was hoping for when he signed him this winter to a one-year, $4.25 million contract with an option for 2012.

Sun Jul 10 201117:00Zach Duke falls to 2-4
Zach Duke allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work on Sunday, falling to 2-4 in Arizona's 4-2 loss to the Cardinals.
He struck out one and walked one, with his biggest mistake coming in the third, where he served up a two-run homer to David Freese. Through nine starts and 51 innings, Duke is the owner of a 5.47 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. That's no way to stay in a rotation long term.

Mon Jun 13 201123:43Zach Duke allows 13 hits in win
Zach Duke didn't have it on Monday evening, getting battered for 13 hits and seven runs in just 4 2/3 innings of Arizona's 12-9 win over the Marlins.
His only real highlight came in the third inning, where he tagged Florida's Ricky Nolasco for a two-run homer, his second of the season. Coming into this evening, Duke had thrown up a 2.37 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 19 innings over his first three starts. He is now the not-so-proud owner of a 4.56 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.

Fri Jun 3 201102:55Zach Duke loses to Nationals
Zach Duke lost after giving up four runs in five innings against the Nationals on Thursday.
That's a lot closer to what should be expected from Duke, who threw seven scoreless innings against the Astros in his season debut Saturday. He struck out six and walked none tonight, but the Nationals got to him for 10 hits.

Diamondbacks activated LHP Zach Duke from the 15-day disabled list.
Duke missed nearly the first two months of the season while recovering from a broken hand that he suffered in spring training. He was knocked around in his last rehab start for Triple-A Reno, but the D'Backs have decided that he's ready to go. He'll get the ball Saturday against the Astros.

Fri May 27 201108:31Zach Duke all set for season debut
Zach Duke (hand) is all set to make his Diamondbacks' debut Saturday.
Duke's season debut was delayed due to a broken hand suffered in spring training. He wasn't too effective in his most recent rehab start with Triple-A Reno, but the D'Backs evidently saw enough that they think the lefty is ready. He's got a nice matchup against the Astros, but we wouldn't recommend fantasy owners starting him right away.

Zach Duke (hand) allowed five runs over five innings Monday in a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Reno.
Duke gave up seven hits -- including two home runs -- while walking one and striking out two. Assuming the D-Backs were pleased with the outing, he could make his season debut Saturday against the Astros. The southpaw has been sidelined since the early part of spring training with a broken hand.

Sat Apr 9 201108:37Zach Duke begins playing catch
Zach Duke has begun playing catch for the first time since breaking his left hand in mid-March.
Duke will undergo an X-ray on his hand Sunday, at which point he'll have a better idea of a timetable for return. The D'Backs had said previously that he would likely miss 6-8 weeks, so a return sometime in May seems likely.

Sun Mar 13 201115:49Duke's hand is broken, likely out 6-8 weeks
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Zach Duke will likely miss 6-8 weeks with a broken left hand.
On Saturday, Duke was struck on the left hand by a line drive. He broke two bones in his pitching hand and won't throw for four weeks. Without Duke, there are two rotation spots to fight for between Armando Galarraga, Barry Enright and Aaron Heilman. Duke was acquired from the Pirates in November after going 8-15 with a 5.72 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 29 starts last season.

Sun Mar 13 201108:41Duke 'very optimistic' hand isn't broken
Zach Duke is "very optimistic" that X-rays on his pitching hand will show that he didn't break anything when he was struck by a line drive Saturday.
"I can move my fingers," he said. "Obviously, there's discomfort. But I feel pretty good about it... They did some tests, some trainers' tests where they pushed on my knuckles and everything. I didn't have any sharp, shooting pains or anything. I'm very optimistic at this point." It sounds like he's probably avoided a serious injury, but we'll wait to see what the X-ray says.

Sat Mar 12 201121:15D;Backs' Duke leaves with injury
Zach Duke left Saturday night's game against the Rockies after being hit on the left hand by a line drive.
He'll surely be taken in for X-rays. If it turns out that Duke has a break, then there'd be two rotation spots open for Armando Galarraga, Barry Enright and Aaron Heilman.

Mon Mar 7 201116:19Duke gives up three home runs
Zach Duke gave up three solo home runs in just three innings of work against the White Sox on Monday.
Not what Arizona wanted to see from a man that gave up 25 gopher balls in 29 starts last season. He's unlikely to have any fantasy value outside of very deep NL-only leagues.

Wed Mar 2 201123:22Duke allows 7 hits in second spring outing
Zack Duke allowed seven hits and three earned runs in a two-inning outing Wednesday against the Giants.
Duke walked one and didn't strike out anybody in his second outing of the spring. He allowed five hits and a run in a two-inning stint last week. Not a great first impression for the new Arizona starter.

Mon Feb 14 201111:14Duke reports to camp on time
Zach Duke reported to spring training on time after his wife gave birth to the couple's first child last week.
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers previously thought Duke could be delayed, but the left-hander was right there with the rest of the pitchers and catchers. Duke was acquired from the Pirates in November after going 8-15 with a 5.72 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 29 starts last season.
