Mon May 12 201423:06Shawn Kelley (back) 'still not right'
Shawn Kelley (back) remained unavailable to pitch in Monday's game.
The Yankees had thought Kelley would be ready to go after being unavailable over the last week with a stiff back, but he's still feeling it. "(He's) still not right, manager Joe Girardi said. "He does not have the flexibility to finish his pitches." Consider Kelley day-to-day.

Shawn Kelley (back) is available to pitch Monday against the Mets.
Kelley hasn't pitched since last Tuesday due back stiffness, but a precautionary MRI came back clean. He was actually warming up in the bullpen on Sunday and likely would have pitched if the game had gone to extra innings, so it sounds like he's over the issue.

Shawn Kelley underwent a precautionary MRI on his stiff back on Friday which came back clean.
Kelley said after Friday's game that he may be available to pitch on Saturday. He has been a very valuable piece of the Bombers bullpen this season, including filling in admirably in the closer's role while David Robertson was sidelined.

Wed Apr 16 201416:01Kelley earns fourth save, Yankees beat Cubs
Shawn Kelley collected his fourth save of the season in the Yankees' win over the Cubs in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Kelley gave up a two-out single to Anthony Rizzo in the top of the ninth inning and then Rizzo advanced to second base on fielder's indifference, but Kelley rallied back to strike out Nate Schierholtz and end the threat. Kelley remains a must-own in all standard fantasy leagues until David Robertson returns from the disabled list.

Sun Apr 13 201423:18Shawn Kelley slams door on Red Sox Sunday
Shawn Kelley sent down the Red Sox in order on Sunday, preserving a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox.
It's the third save for Kelley this week who has done an admirable job filling in for closer David Robertson. With Robertson due back on April 22, Kelley will have at least one more week to rack up saves, and should be started in all fantasy leagues until then.

Sat Apr 12 201416:17Shawn Kelley works scoreless ninth for save
Shawn Kelley worked a scoreless ninth inning against the Red Sox on Saturday, preserving a three-run advantage and earning his second save of the season.
Kelley is the man to own at the back of the Yankees bullpen for as long as David Robertson remains sidelined. That may only be for another week however, as Robertson is aiming to return on April 22.

Thu Apr 10 201418:01Kelley likely unavailable Thursday
Shawn Kelley is likely unavailable for Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
Not a surprise, as Kelley threw 31 pitches in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles. Yankees manager Joe Girardi would like to stay away from Adam Warren as well, so he might be forced to play the matchups in a potential save situation. Kelley is still the best bet for saves while David Robertson (groin) is on the disabled list.

Wed Apr 9 201423:42Shawn Kelley takes loss in ninth
After entering a tie game in the ninth, Shawn Kelley gave up two runs and took a loss Wednesday against the Orioles.
Kelley allowed four hits in an appearance for the first time since June 11, 2012. He had given up just one hit in 3 1/3 scoreless innings this season coming in. The Yankees will keep using him as their closer while David Robertson is out, but since he threw 31 pitches tonight, he might not be available Thursday. Perhaps Adam Warren or Matt Thornton will pick up a spot save in his place.

Shawn Kelley (triceps) indicated that he felt better after his morning bullpen session on Saturday, and should be available out of the Yankees bullpen on Sunday.

Shawn Kelley gave up his first three runs of the spring Saturday against the Phillies.
Kelley, who was acquired from the Mariners last month, had pitched five scoreless innings this spring. He's a nice enough choice as the third or fourth right-hander in a major league pen, but since he has options left, the Yankees may well send him down later this month.

The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Kelly Shoppach on the 40-man roster. The Mariners and Kelley avoided arbitration last week by agreeing to a one-year, $935,000 contract. If he is claimed on waivers, his new team will be responsible for his salary for 2013. The 28-year-old right-hander had a 3.25 ERA and 45/15 K/BB ratio over 44 1/3 innings last year, so he should draw interest.
