Saladino went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in the White Sox's win over the Indians on Saturday.

Saladino continues to swing a surprisingly warm bat, and his trio of hits Saturday boosted his average back above the .300 mark. His hitting ways has kept him in the starting lineup at Gordon Beckham's expense.

He displayed some modest power throughout his minor league career, but it is still surprising to see him go deep twice in two games. The power may not continue, but his presence at third base (and the No. 2 spot of the White Sox's lineup) should.

Third base, among other positions, has been a disaster for the White Sox this season. Saladino probably won't offer enough at the plate to provide a long-term solution for his team, but with 25 steals at Triple-A Charlotte in just 52 games this season, he could become a hot commodity if he gets regular playing time. He also has decent power, and he posted a .310/.367/.483 slash line for Charlotte last season, though he's dropped off to .255/.332/.372 this year. Saladino is worth keeping a close eye on, as the White Sox might be ready to give up on the hideous duo of Conor Gillaspie and Gordon Beckham at third base. Saladino may also play some shortstop, especially if the White Sox eventually decide to shop Alexei Ramirez.

Saladino had been in the mix for a bench role this spring, but he was a casualty of the first round of cuts. Emilio Bonifacio, Carlos Sanchez, Gordon Beckham, and Leury Garcia are all ahead of him in the "utility" category, so he will enjoy a repeat campaign at Charlotte.

Manage Robin Ventura said he envisions Saladino competing for a bullpen role this spring, the White Sox's official site reports.

The team's second base race is wide open at this point, but it does not appear that Saladino is a part of that picture. Saladino was added to the team's 40-man roster over the winter after he hit .310 in 325 plate appearances for Triple-A Charlotte, but he is no longer one of the team's top prospects. He will probably spend much of the year back at Charlotte.
