The White Sox optioned Smith to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, the Daily Herald reports.
Smith had a 0.813 OPS in 106 games for Double-A Birmingham last season, and he should spend most, if not all, of 2015 at Triple-A Charlotte. Either Rob Brantly or Geovany Soto will serve as the White Sox's No. 2 catcher after both Smith and Adrian Nieto were optioned to Charlotte.
