C Kevan Smith (back) was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with what the club said was "sacroiliac joint dysfunction." He was replaced by C Hector Sanchez, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. Smith, 26, was called up Sunday from Charlotte and was scratched Monday from his scheduled major-league debut because of back discomfort. He was replacing C Alex Avila (hamstring) who was put on the disabled list.

C Kevan Smith (back spasms) was supposed to make his major-league debut Monday after being called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday but he was a late scratch with back spasms. He was replaced by C Dioner Navarro, who was 1-for-4 with a double in the 7-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Smith was promoted because C Alex Avila (hamstring) was put on the disabled list. Smith was batting .345 (10-for-29) with two homers and six RBIs in eight games with Charlotte this season.

C Kevan Smith was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte before Sunday's game against the Rangers. Smith, who was drafted in the seventh round in 2011, has yet to play in the majors. He was hitting .345 at Triple-A.

The White Sox optioned Smith to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, the Daily Herald reports.

Smith had a 0.813 OPS in 106 games for Double-A Birmingham last season, and he should spend most, if not all, of 2015 at Triple-A Charlotte. Either Rob Brantly or Geovany Soto will serve as the White Sox's No. 2 catcher after both Smith and Adrian Nieto were optioned to Charlotte.
