OF Preston Tucker produced at a league-average rate during his rookie season despite sporadic playing time. Firmly entrenched as a reserve, Tucker needs Spring Training at-bats to find a positional home, either as the fifth outfielder, a lefty-hitting designated hitter, or at first baseman in case the Astros' other options there flame out. Tucker lacks the glove to defend anywhere adroitly, but his power (he slugged .437 over 323 plate appearances) makes him a viable roster contributor.

Tucker hit a solo home run -- his 13th of the season -- in the ninth inning during Sunday's 5-3 win against the Angels.
Tucker's 430-foot blast to right field off Angels closer Huston Street started the Astros' five-run rally. The rookie outfielder hasn't played much since he was recalled from the minors on September 2, but he's performed well all year against right-handed pitching, hitting .271 with all 13 homers coming against them.

Tucker was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Saturday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
With Lance McCullers set to return to the Astros on Sunday, Houston elected to option Tucker to the minors. The 25-year-old had been receiving sporadic time in the outfield, rotating with Colby Rasmus and Jake Marisnick for most of August. Manager A.J. Hinch indicated Tucker won't stay in the minors long and could be back up when the rosters expand on Sept. 1.

Tucker is out of the lineup Sunday against the Tigers.
After making three straight starts, Tucker will rest in favor of an outfield composed of Colby Rasmus (left), Carlos Gomez (center) and Jake Marisnick (right). With the left-handed Matt Boyd on the mound for the opposing Tigers, the timing was right for a regular maintenance day. Tucker's OPS is a mere .466 against left-handed pitching, compared to an .871 mark against righties.

Tucker is out of the lineup Tuesday, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.
Tucker is in a bit of a slump, with his average dropping from .266 to .258 over the past four games. The only Astros outfielder who should be expected to be in the lineup every day going forward is Carlos Gomez. Evan Gattis will get the start in left field Tuesday.
Sat Aug 8 201520:55Tucker 1-3 Saturday with solo bomb, 11th home run of season
Tucker went 1-for-3 Saturday with a solo bomb, his 11th home run of the season.
He may have aggravated his triceps issue slightly on the home run swing, as cameras caught him being checked out by team trainers when he got back to the dugout, but Tucker remained in the game. Don't be surprised if he gets a day off Sunday however, to avoid the chance of a longer absence.

Tucker (triceps) is back in the lineup Friday against the A's.
A right triceps contusion, the result of a HBP on Tuesday, cost Tucker two starts. Tucker is hitting .290/.351/.556 with 10 homers against right-handed pitching this season.

Tucker (triceps) indicated that the swelling has decreased and that he expects to take swings Thursday, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Tucker isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game, but was available off the bench Wednesday and will likely have the same scenario again. The issue doesn't appear to be serious, so it's possible he will rejoin the lineup within the next few days.
