Lackey (14-9) picked up the win on Friday against the Reds as he gave up one run on six hits over 7.2 innings pitched, while striking out five hitters in the process.
The Cardinals veteran pitcher picked a great night to bounce back from his last two starts as he stayed ahead of hitters all night. Lackey didn't allow a walk and admitted to reporters that the added rest may have been beneficial after being pushed back in the rotation. Lackey will next take the mound on Wednesday against the Cubs in Chicago.
Wed Sep 17 201418:08Lackey will start Friday against Reds
Lackey will start Friday against the Reds, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com reports.
Lackey's frustration seemed to boiled over his last time out, as he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes after giving up two runs in just two innings against Cincinnati. Sensing he could use a breather, manager Mike Matheny decided to skip Lackey one time through the rotation, but he'll return to oppose David Holmberg in Friday's series opener.
Tue Sep 16 201417:14Lackey will throw bullpen session Tuesday
Lackey will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, placing him on track to start Friday's game, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The Cardinals made the call to skip Lackey's start Tuesday in order to allow Lance Lynn, Adam Wainwright and Shelby Miller to pitch on normal rest. Lackey has struggled of late, allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits over his last two starts (8.0 innings), so the team hopes the extra day off will allow him to be as physically ready as possible for Friday's projected start against Cincinnati.
Mon Sep 15 201411:17Lackey will have Tuesday start skipped to allow Lance Lynn
Lackey will have his Tuesday start skipped to allow Lance Lynn, Adam Wainwright, and Shelby Miller to continue to pitch on normal rest, MLB.com reports.
Lackey hasn't been sharp over his last three starts and Matheny is giving him some rest to try and get him back to 100 percent both physically and mentally.

Lackey was tossed from Wednesday's game mid-batter to start the third inning after arguing with home plate umpire Tom Hallion about balls and strikes.
It was a bizarre scene as Hallion stepped out to signal to Lackey to stop talking and the Cardinals' starter seemed to calm down and then Hallion ejected him in the middle of Brayan Pena's at-bat. Lackey gave up two runs on four hits and a walk before getting ejected, but a win and a quality start were still attainable before his ejection, so this is pretty unfortunate for Lackey's owners. Tyler Lyons came in to relieve Lackey with no outs recorded in the third inning.

Lackey won Monday against the Pirates as he pitched seven innings and allowed one run, seven hits and one walk to go along with three strikeouts.
Lackey has allowed two earned runs or less in four of his five starts with the Cardinals. He has had a nice transition to the National League so far and the Cardinals will continue to rely on him to provide quality innings down the stretch.

Altogether, Lackey is still having a decent season, with a 3.88 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 135:38 K:BB ratio in 162.1 innings pitched this year. Lackey's next start is set for Monday on the road against the Pirates.

Lackey did not factor in Thursday's decision, but made a quality start, allowing two runs and five hits over seven innings.
Lackey has made three starts with the Cardinals, and has two great outings under his belt as well as a nine-run stinker. He'll look to build on Thursday's solid start in his next turn, which will come at home against Cincinnati.

Lackey gave up nine runs on 13 hits over five innings in a losing effort against the Orioles on Saturday night.
He was clobbered early and often by the O's on Saturday, but hung around long enough to limit the strain on the St. Louis bullpen. Lackey had a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the second inning, but yielded crooked numbers in three of the next four frames thanks to three Baltimore home runs. Lackey has an excellent matchup in his next start, a home date with the Padres on Thursday.

Lackey pitched seven innings in his Cardinals debut Sunday, picking up the win in holding the Brewers to two runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Lackey delivered just what the Cardinals were hoping. He should be a better option now that he's in the National League and in a friendlier ballpark to pitchers than Fenway.
Fri Aug 1 201417:42Lackey will start Sunday against Brewers
Lackey will start Sunday against the Brewers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Lance Lynn was penciled in to toe the rubber in the finale against Milwaukee, but the team will instead give Lackey the nod Sunday and move Lynn back to Tuesday against the Red Sox. Lackey hasn't pitched since last Saturday, when he gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out four over seven innings against the Rays.
Thu Jul 31 201412:44John Lackey: Traded To St. Louis
The Red Sox have agreed to trade Lackey to the Cardinals, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. The Red Sox will receive Allen Craig and Joe Kelly.
Hours after shipping off ace Jon Lester to the A's, the Red Sox have traded another rotation piece. Lackey will jump to the National League after nearly 11 seasons in the AL, though it's not entirely clear when he'll make his first start for St. Louis. In 21 starts this season (137.1 innings), Lackey has posted a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 116 strikeouts.
Wed Jul 30 201415:11'Zero chance' Marlins trade for John Lackey
Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald is hearing that there's "zero chance" the Marlins trade for John Lackey.
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reported earlier Wednesday that the Fish were talking to the Red Sox about a deal involving the veteran righty, but apparently those negotiations didn't get very far. Morosi's colleague, Ken Rosenthal has said there's a "very good chance" Lackey is dealt somewhere. It just apparently won't be to Miami.

Wed Jul 30 201414:39Marlins discussing Lackey deal with Red Sox
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Marlins and Red Sox are discussing a possible John Lackey trade.
The Marlins obviously like the fact that Lackey has a team option of $500,000 for next season. It also doesn't hurt that he's posted a 3.55 ERA over 50 starts since the beginning of last season. It's not clear at this point what kind of package the Marlins might be willing to give up.

Wed Jul 30 201412:31'Very good chance' Red Sox trade Lackey
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that there is a "very good chance" the Red Sox trade John Lackey in addition to Jon Lester.
The Red Sox have a $500,000 club option on Lackey for 2015 that's as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery, so while he might not bring as much as Lester, you can understand why he's sought after. The righty boasts a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 116/32 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings this season. Kansas City is one club known to have interest in Lackey.

Tue Jul 29 201420:19Royals have inquired on John Lackey
Andy McCullough reports that the Royals have inquired on John Lackey.
It backs up a previous report from Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com. McCullough adds that the Red Sox are "said to be seeking a sizable return." It's not a surprise, given that Lackey has a $500,000 club option on Lackey for 2015 that's as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery. The rigthy boasts a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 116/32 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings this season.

Mon Jul 28 201422:39Red Sox open to trading Lackey and Lester
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox are open to trading both John Lackey and Jon Lester for the right returns.
It had been clear that they were listening on Lester, but it appears they'd consider dealing Lackey, as well. While Lester is set to hit free agency after the season, the Red Sox have a $500,000 club option on Lackey for 2015 that's as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery. That obviously makes his value much higher. Lackey is also pitching very well for the second straight season, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 116/32 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings.
