Bourjos will start in center field and lead off Wednesday against the Cubs.
Jon Jay will sit against left-hander Jon Lester, affording Bourjos his fourth start of the year in center and his second start atop the order. Bourjos has posted a reverse platoon split to this point in his career, with a .253/.314/.391 batting line against right-handed pitching and a .240/.288/.384 mark against lefties. He hit just .194/.252/.330 against southpaws last season.

Bourjos went 2-for-4 Saturday with a double and a run scored.
He's started to see semi-regular at-bats over the last week, hitting .400 (6-for-15) since coming off the paternity list last Friday. If he can remain effective at the plate Bourjos may carve out a time share in center field with Jon Jay, giving him more opportunities to steal the bases which fuel his fantasy value.
Fri Apr 24 201515:37Bourjos activated from paternity list Friday
Bourjos was activated from the paternity list Friday.
After the birth of his child Bourjos will once again be a depth option for the Cardinals. He will almost certainly come off the bench Friday as Jon Jay has had great success against Matt Garza in his career.

Bourjos will be placed on a three-day paternity leave starting Tuesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Bourjos will join his wife for the birth of their first child and won't be eligible to rejoin the Cardinals until Friday against the Brewers. St. Louis will be calling up relief pitcher Mitch Harris in the meantime, resulting in the Cardinals having one less relief batter in their dugout.

Bourjos replaced Matt Holliday (back) in Saturday's game, going 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.
He's still looking for his first hit of the season, but fantasy owners who picked Bourjos up for his speed have to be happy with his three steals so far. Holliday is expected to be in the lineup on Sunday, so Bourjos will likely head back to the bench.

Bourjos (hip) may still have a chance at the starting center field job for St. Louis, MLB.com reports.
General manager John Mozeliak commented that Jon Jay is "likely going to be our starting center fielder" but that if Bourjos is healthy and productive this spring he could force a competition with Jay. While it's unlikely that Jay loses the job, it's still something to watch moving forward.

Bourjos said Thursday that he is almost fully recovered from hip surgery, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
Bourjos said last month that he expected to be a full-go at the start of spring training, but he has yet to clear a major hurdle in his recovery; running the bases. Of course, speed is the 27-year-old's calling card, and until he shows he's regained full mobility, he'll remain an option only in very deep leagues.

Bourjos (hip) has been cleared to swing a bat and expects to be full-go at the start of spring training, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
He was able to avoid arbitration with the Cardinals, and will be back to offering stellar defense on a part-time basis in center field in 2015. In 181 plate appearances against righties last season, Bourjos hit .255 with 12 extra-base hits. With this in mind, it is reasonable to expect him to see over 200 plate appearances in 2015, but his overall usage will largely hinge on how effective Jon Jay is.
Thu Jan 15 201519:58Bourjos (hip) agreed to one-year deal with Cardinals on Thursday
Bourjos (hip) agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Bourjos had another disappointing season at the plate in 2014, batting .231/.294/.348 with four home runs and 24 RBI over 119 games and 264 at-bats. Although he is known more for his glove than his bat, he showed promise in 2013 with the Angels after finishing with a .274/.333/.377 batting line in 55 games, but saw a decline in 2014. He will likely serve as a reserve outfielder behind Matt Holliday, Jon Jay and Jason Heyward in 2015.
Fri Nov 7 201413:09Bourjos (hip) underwent offseason hip surgery
Bourjos (hip) underwent offseason hip surgery, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The surgery, which he had in October, was done to alleviate chronic pain he'd been experiencing in his hip, as well as to repair cartilage damage. Bourjos should be good to go by spring training, in time to compete for a starting role in a crowded St. Louis outfield.
Mon Sep 8 201414:23Bourjos not in lineup Monday
Bourjos is not in the lineup Monday, Fox Sports Midwest reports.
Jon Jay will play center field with Oscar Taveras in right, so Bourjos will start this game on the bench. He had started five of the last six games, and has two hits in four of those games, so look for him to be back in center field in the near future.
Sun Jul 20 201423:48Peter Bourjos takes Clayton Kershaw deep
Peter Bourjos blasted a two-run homer off Clayton Kershaw on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Cardinals to victory.
Bourjos finished the evening 2-for-4 and also stole a pair of bases. His blast off Kershaw tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning. The two-hit attack raises Bourjos' line on the season to .230/.292/.360 to go along with three homers and 13 RBI.

Thu May 29 201400:05Peter Bourjos goes hitless in loss
Peter Bourjos went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.
Bourjos's average is back down to .210 with a couple of 0-for-4s since he returned from a stomach virus, and one wonders if he still might get that stint in the minors after all. The plan appears to be for Oscar Taveras to come up on June 4 for the Cardinals' games in AL parks, but the timetable could be moved up if they want to send Bourjos down.

Tue May 6 201400:06Peter Bourjos goes 2-for-4 in victory
Peter Bourjos got a rare start Monday and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored against the Braves.
It's one thing for the Cardinals to play Jon Jay over Bourjos against righties, but Bourjos hadn't even been starting against lefties lately. The start tonight was his first since Apr. 26. Now that he has a good game under his belt, maybe his playing time will begin ticking up again.
