PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The New York Yankees won't have All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez for at least a few weeks.Sanchez was put on the 10-day disabled list Monday because of a strained right groin. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before New York's game at Philadelphia that Sanchez is expected to miss up to four weeks with a Grade 1 strain.Austine Romine replaced Sanchez in the starting lineup.The Yankees also optioned outfielder Clint Frazier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka and right-hander Giovanny Gallegos from the minors.Sanchez was hurt Sunday while running out a double-play grounder at Tampa Bay."Gary Sanchez out of your lineup, that's a big deal," Boone said. "But we'll take the positive out of it. Ro has done a great job obviously this year for us. (AP) — CC Sabathia was upbeat after allowing one run and four hits over four innings Thursday in the New York Yankees' 2-2, nine-inning tie against the Detroit Tigers."I felt great," the 37-year-old left-hander said. "If I feel like I felt today all year. I feel like I'll be pretty good. That's encouraging."Sabathia, who wears a brace on his surgically repaired right knee, was 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 29 starts last season in his best season since 2012. He has adjusted to decreased velocity."I feel pretty comfortable with the stuff that I have," Sabathia said.Sabathia walked one and struck out one during his 64-pitch outing, his second spring training appearance."Felt great about what I saw," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez was activated from the 10-day disabled list shortly before Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs.Sanchez missed the past 21 games with a right biceps injury suffered April 8 against the Baltimore Orioles.Sanchez had two hits on Thursday in the final outing of a three-game rehab stint."I'm happy to be back," Sanchez told reporters through an interpreter. "Hopefully I have the opportunity to contribute. The team has played great baseball and I just want to be part of that."Sanchez was a surprise late-season star when he was recalled from the minors last season and hit 20 homers in just 53 games. He finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting.He was just 3-for-20 with one homer when he suffered the injury against the Orioles.While Sanchez returned for Friday's game, center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (elbow) sat out his third straight game.The Yankees optioned catcher Kyle Higashioka to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to open up the roster spot for Sanchez.
