Maturity issues aside, Hanson is having a pretty solid 2014 campaign for the Bucs. He's shown more pop than expected, above-average speed and the ability to hit for a decent average. With nobody blocking him at the big-league level, he could get a shot at the starting shortstop job as early as next season. | ||||||

Since the beginning of June, Hanson has hit .297/.328/.450 with seven doubles, two triples, and two home runs. It may be unfair to expect more out of a 21-year old already playing in Double-A, but his monster 2012 season raised the bar against which all of his future performance will be measured. | ||||||

Hanson, 21, has struggled this season in his first 22 games for Altoona, batting .237/.276/.366 with six extra-base hits, six steals and a 21/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. This comes after he posted a .679 OPS and 26/8 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 35 games at Altoona to finish the 2013 season. Hanson's prospect stock has steadily declined since his outstanding 2012 breakout campaign at Low-A West Virginia, but he still projects as a big-league second baseman with good speed and extra-base pop. | ||||||
