He has a decent shot of pulling out of his month-long slump, although the Athletics do have solid options at catcher if Norris can't get back on track.

Norris missed a fourth straight start Tuesday, but he took batting practice before the game and appears to be pretty much over his back ailment. The A's catcher is hitting an impressive .304/.406/.509 with eight homers and 35 RBI over 61 games this season.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin is hopeful that Derek Norris (back) can return to the lineup during the series with the Tigers that concludes Wednesday.
Norris took some swings Monday at what he estimated to be 60-70 percent effort and said he felt "not great, not bad. Overall, I just felt OK. I'll stretch and throw and start knocking off the rust, and if my body responds positively from today, then we'll go from there." Norris hasn't played since leaving Friday's game due to tightness in his lower back.

Derek Norris was removed from Friday's game against the Marlins due to tightness in his lower back.
It's certainly encouraging news to hear that the injury isn't related to the head injury that he sustained earlier in the week. It looks like he should be cleared to return to the Athletics lineup in a day or two.
