"They classified it as an AC sprain," Padres interim manager Pat Murphy said Saturday. "He was adamant about being in there. I think he's going to go through periods where he's sore. The doctors say it can't get any worse. They thought he'd be a lot more sore today." Norris is hitting .238 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI this season, his first with the Padres after being acquired in a trade with the Oakland A's last December.

While his batting average has regressed a bit this season to .246, Norris has already smacked a career-high 11 home runs and is on pace to easily top his bests in RBI and runs scored as well. The 26-year-old has taken quite well to his new surroundings in San Diego and is proving himself to be a worthy fantasy starter.

This should not have much fantasy impact with regard to position eligibility, as most owners would probably prefer to deploy Norris as a catcher, but it could lead to Norris being in the lineup more days when Austin Hedges is starting behind the plate.

While it would take a while for Norris to actually take the field at first, this development would reduce the wear and tear on Norris being behind the plate every day. With the Padres having recently called prized catching prospect Austin Hedges up to the major league club, playing Norris at first would open up playing time for Hedges.
