Manager Pat Murphy indicated Monday that Norris' shoulder "is something to watch," Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.
It's a bit unclear what Norris could be dealing with, but he is in Monday's lineup. The situation is definitely something worth monitoring over next few days, but he should be used as normal for the time being.
Sun Jul 5 201511:34Norris out of lineup Sunday against Cardinals
Norris is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.
Norris is dealing with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, but it's fortunately not his throwing arm, so he should be capable of playing through the discomfort on most days. However, it won't be surprising to see him get a few more days off than normal in the days leading up to the All-Star break. Austin Hedges will take over for him behind the plate Sunday.

With the All-Star break looming after next weekend, Norris will likely get a few extra days off to rest, but his presence in the lineup on a day-to-day basis until then is worth monitoring in the event that the injury gets worse.

San Diego Padres catcher Derek Norris is in the lineup Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals despite suffering a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder Friday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
San Diego Padres catcher Derek Norris is in the lineup Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals despite suffering a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder Friday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Norris suffered the injury when he tripped on Cardinals first baseman Xavier Scruggs' foot while running out an infield single. He was examined by a team trainer and did not leave the game. "They classified it as an AC sprain," Padres interim manager Pat Murphy said Saturday. "He was adamant about being in there. I think he's going to go through periods where he's sore. The doctors say it can't get any worse. They thought he'd be a lot more sore today." Norris is hitting .238 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI this season, his first with the Padres after being acquired in a trade with the Oakland A's last December.

Norris had a big day at the dish Sunday against the Diamondbacks, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI.
While his batting average has regressed a bit this season to .246, Norris has already smacked a career-high 11 home runs and is on pace to easily top his bests in RBI and runs scored as well. The 26-year-old has taken quite well to his new surroundings in San Diego and is proving himself to be a worthy fantasy starter.
Thu Jun 25 201513:27Norris out of lineup Thursday against Giants
Norris is out of the lineup Thursday against the Giants.
Norris will receive the day game off Thursday after seven straight starts behind the plate. In his last seven, he's gone just 3-for-29 at the dish, but two of the hits have gone for a home run. Austin Hedges will catch in his place, batting seventh for the Padres.

Norris went 1-for-4 with his eighth homer of the year Thursday in a win over Oakland.
He made the first start of his career at first base, then ended up moving to catcher in the bottom of the seventh after Austin Hedges was removed for a pinch hitter. Norris had been slumping recently, but some time away from the strain of catching seemingly did him a bit of good, and he may see further time at first base when he's not behind the plate moving forward.
Thu Jun 18 201513:55Norris will make first career start at first base Thursday
Norris will make his first career start at first base Thursday, the Union Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.
It's actually kind of surprising that the Padres haven't tried this sooner, as they have already experimented with Yonder Alonso at third base, and Norris is not exactly a defensive stud behind the plate. This should not have much fantasy impact with regard to position eligibility, as most owners would probably prefer to deploy Norris as a catcher, but it could lead to Norris being in the lineup more days when Austin Hedges is starting behind the plate.
Tue Jun 16 201514:36Norris out of lineup Tuesday against A's
Norris is out of the lineup Tuesday against the A's.
Norris will get the day off after catching each of the last three games on consecutive days. Austin Hedges will serve as the backstop and bat eighth against A's starter Scott Kazmir.

The long ball gave the Pads a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, but they couldn't hold it. Norris has established himself as a reliable catching option in fantasy thanks to his 39 RBI (good for second at the position, one behind Oakland's Stephen Vogt) and 34 runs (tied for first among catchers with Russell Martin).

Norris struck out his first four times up Friday against the Pirates, but made his only hit of the day count, ripping a ninth-inning grand slam to deliver a 6-2 victory.
Ah, sweet redemption. Norris has delivered credible, if one-dimensional production from the catcher position this year, as he's got a whopping 32 RBI despite only hitting four homers thus far. Part of that is due to the fact that he's on a 162-game pace for 57 doubles.
Sat May 23 201518:35Norris not in lineup Saturday against Dodgers
Norris is not in the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.
Norris will get a day to rest his legs after catching five straight games, with rookie Austin Hedges starting for just the second time since May 10. Wed May 6 201512:49Norris out of lineup Wednesday
Norris is out of the lineup Wednesday, Padres' radio announcer Bob Scanlan reports.
Austin Hedges will get the start behind the dish, as Norris looks poised to see a role change over the rest of the season. The Padres will find ways to get him at-bats, possibly at first base, but his defensive inefficiencies behind the plate appear to have resulted in fewer at-bats for the foreseeable future.
Tue May 5 201521:55Norris could begin taking grounders at first base in near future
Norris could begin taking grounders at first base in the near future, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports.
While it would take a while for Norris to actually take the field at first, this development would reduce the wear and tear on Norris being behind the plate every day. With the Padres having recently called prized catching prospect Austin Hedges up to the major league club, playing Norris at first would open up playing time for Hedges.

Norris will receive the day game off Wednesday after five straight starts behind the plate. With a day off for the Padres on Thursday, Norris' rest will span two days, and he should rejoin the lineup Friday against the Rockies.
