Mon Apr 22 201322:13Jonathan Broxton's X-ray is negative
An X-ray on Jonathan Broxton's right hand came back negative.
Broxton couldn't avoid Nate Schierholtz's liner Monday, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. The setup man can probably safely be considered day-to-day.

Mon Apr 22 201321:40Broxton exits after getting hit with liner
Jonathan Broxton left Monday's game after being hit on the right hand/wrist with a line drive.
The Reds will update his status shortly, but he'll surely be sent for X-rays. Logan Ondrusek came into the game to replace Broxton.

Sun Apr 14 201317:30Jonathan Broxton pounded by Pirates
Jonathan Broxton was lit up for six runs in two-thirds of an inning by the Pirates on Sunday.
Broxton's three-year, $21 million contract looked bad the moment it was sign and then got a whole lot worse when the Reds decided to put Aroldis Chapman back in the pen. Broxton has an 11.57 ERA and has already taken two blown saves as a setup man.

Thu Mar 21 201310:50Broxton moving back to setup role
The Reds are moving Aroldis Chapman back to the bullpen, making Jonathan Broxton a setup man.
It's a tough blow for fantasy owners who have already taken Broxton in drafts. And it makes the Reds' three-year, $21 million deal with Broxton seam rather silly.

Wed Nov 28 201212:12Reds finalize contract with Jonathan Broxton
Reds signed RHP Jonathan Broxton to a three-year, $21 million contract with a club option for 2016.
The deal is now official. Per Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the guarantee would jump to $22 million in the event that Broxton is traded, as his option would become a mutual option while the buyout would increase from $1 million to $2 million. It's a pretty nice chunk of change for the 28-year-old right-hander, who made his way back from elbow problems to post a 2.48 ERA over 58 innings this past season between the Royals and Reds. While it's a red flag that he's not missing as many bats these days, the current plan is to use him in the closer role next season while Aroldis Chapman into the starting rotation.

Wed Nov 28 201208:35Broxton's deal with Reds: three years, $21M
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Jonathan Broxton's deal with the Reds is worth $21 million over three years.
The deal also includes a $9 million club option for 2013. He'll make $4 million next season, $7 million in 2014 and $9 million in 2015 while the option includes a $1 million buyout. Broxton likely has Brandon League (and well, the Dodgers) to thank for his nice little payday. The expectation is that he'll move into the closer role next season while Aroldis Chapman will get a shot in the starting rotation.

Wed Nov 28 201201:14Reds, Jonathan Broxton agree to contract
CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Reds and Jonathan Broxton have come to terms on a multiyear deal.
The contract, which will be announced Wednesday, is expected to take Broxton through at least 2015. One imagines he'll get Brandon League money -- $7.5 million per year -- making this a risky deal. Broxton's stuff isn't what it once was, and he struck out just seven batters per nine innings last year after ranging from 10.5 to 13.5 in his first five years in the league. The Reds will certainly be downgrading in the closer's role if they in fact move Aroldis Chapman to the rotation, though it may pay off in the end.

Wed Sep 12 201220:05Broxton 'No. 1 candidate' to close for Reds
Reds manager Dusty Baker said Jonathan Broxton is his "No. 1 candidate" to close while Aroldis Chapman (shoulder) is resting, but he'll also look at matchups.
Broxton closed out the Reds' win Tuesday and is the guy in Cincy to own for saves until Chapman is ready. Sean Marshall is worth owning in deeper leagues. "[Broxton] is the No. 1 candidate. But it's matchups, too," Baker said. "If they have three lefties, it could be Marshall. It could be Broxton, it could be [Jose] Arredondo, it could be [J.J.] Hoover. Broxton is the No. 1 choice. We try to limit Broxton to two days in a row, too."

Tue Sep 11 201222:01Broxton records save in absence of Chapman
With Aroldis Chapman sidelined due to a fatigued left shoulder, Jonathan Broxton filled in admirably on Tuesday, slamming the door on the Pirates to earn his 24th save of the season.
It was Broxton's first save as a member of the Reds. He allowed a leadoff single to Jose Tabata, but battled back with a strikeout and a double play ball to end the festivities. Broxton appears to be the preferred option with Chapman out, giving him serious mixed league fantasy value for anyone chasing saves late in the season.

Jonathan Broxton was unavailable to pitch Tuesday due to right shoulder soreness.
It doesn't sound like a major concern at this point. Broxton has struggled since arriving in Cincy, giving up four runs over four innings. He should be considered day-to-day at this point.

Jonathan Broxton had another rough outing Friday, giving up two runs in the eighth against the Cubs.

Tue Jul 31 201215:36Report: Reds boost bullpen, acquire Broxton
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Reds have acquired Jonathan Broxton from the Royals.
No word yet on what Kansas City will receive in the deal. Broxton will team up with Sean Marshall as great bridges to elite closer Aroldis Chapman. The bulky right-hander has posted a 2.27 ERA in 35 2/3 innings this season as Kansas City's closer. He will be a free agent at season's end. All fantasy owners should rush to their waiver wires to grab Greg Holland, who will likely take over closer's duties in KC.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Giants, Orioles, Reds and others are in on Jonathan Broxton.
Many teams are looking to make deadline deals for bullpen help, and it sure looks like Broxton will eventually be on the go. The bulky right-hander has posted a 2.27 ERA in 35 2/3 innings this season as Kansas City's closer. He's set to hit the free agent market this winter.

Sun Jul 29 201219:43Rangers are kicking the tires on Broxton
CBS Sports reports that the Rangers are interested in Jonathan Broxton.
Texas backed off big-name starters due to sky-high price tags. Luckily, Broxton will come cheaper. If moved to Texas, Broxton would set up Joe Nathan, which would kill his fantasy value and greatly enhance his successor's as KC's closer, expected to be Greg Holland. Broxton has 23 saves and a 2.27 ERA with the Royals this year.

Sun Jul 29 201215:31Jonathan Broxton trade becoming likelier
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that interest in Jonathan Broxton is "picking up."
After saying Thursday that there was a 60 percent chance Broxton would be dealt, Crasnick has now upped the odds to 60-70 percent. Broxton has had a nice year but has struggled of late, giving up runs in three of his last six appearances.

Thu Jul 26 201213:18Royals likely to trade Jonathan Broxton
According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, "odds are about 60-40" that Jonathan Broxton will be traded.
Broxton only signed a one-year contract and will hit the free agent market after this season, so the Royals may as well get some young talent out of him if they can. The burly right-hander has posted a 2.27 ERA in 35 2/3 innings this year while converting 23-of-27 save opportunities.

Tue Jul 17 201213:44Royals may try to sign Broxton for 2013
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Royals may try to sign Jonathan Broxton for next year rather than trade him.
We find that hard to believe, as Joakim Soria should be back from Tommy John next season and the Royals have multiple young arms capable of pitching the late innings. This is likely the Royals' way of trying to raise the asking price for the 28-year-old right-hander.
