RHP Matt Garza is still feeling stiffness in his right shoulder and will not make his season debut as scheduled Wednesday, manager Craig Counsell said after the Brewers' 12-3 opening day loss to the Giants. Garza experienced discomfort and was removed from an exhibition start Friday against the Astros.

RHP Matt Garza was nothing short of a disaster in 2015, going 6-14 with a 5.63 ERA in 26 appearances, the worst numbers of his career. He was so ineffective that he was pulled from the rotation on Sept. 6 declining to work out of the bullpen and ultimately left the team early to tend to his wife, who was expecting twins. Milwaukee would love to have included Garza in its slew of offseason deals, but the 32-year-old is still signed for two more seasons and owed $25 million. Those numbers, coupled with his recent struggles, will make a move incredibly difficult.
Thu Sep 17 201517:45Garza has left Brewers to be with wife for birth of their twins
Garza has left the Brewers to be with his wife for the birth of their twins, and he will not return this season, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Garza reportedly left the team on good terms with management, and he's expected to be a member of the Brewers' rotation again in 2016. The veteran hurler struggled mightily this season to the tune of a 5.63 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 148.2 innings, but perhaps an offseason will reinvigorate him for 2016.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Matt Garza left the team Thursday to be with his wife for the birth of twins and will not return this season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Matt Garza left the team Thursday to be with his wife for the birth of twins and will not return this season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Garza struggled with ineffectiveness this season to the tune of a 5.63 ERA over 148.2 innings, and he was recently shut down as the team moved toward giving some young arms a look at the end of a lost season. While Garza was reportedly angry with the decision that ended his season, he left Thursday on good terms with management. The veteran is expected, at least for the now, to return to the starting rotation in 2016. The Brewers will finish the season with a relatively young starting rotation consisting of Taylor Jungmann, Jimmy Nelson, Wily Peralta, Ariel Pena and Zach Davies. Garza finishes the year 6-14 with a four-year low 104 strikeouts.
Sat Sep 5 201517:16Matt Garza: Shut Down For Season
Garza has been shut down for the season, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The nine-year veteran was reportedly "livid" about the decision, but the Brewers have decided they want to get a look at other rotation options over the final month rather than continue throwing Garza out there. Thus, Garza's season will end on a bitter note, having failed to make it out of the fifth innings against the Reds in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings.

Garza will start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
The Reds are pushing Keyvius Sampson to Game 2, but the Brewers will keep their order the same and start Garza in front of Wily Peralta. That means Garza will now oppose lefty John Lamb.

Garza's start has been pushed back, with Friday's game against Cincinnati postponed due to rain.
Look for the Brewers to do with Garza what the Reds did with Kevyius Sampson, and simply move him back to start one game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Garza did not factor into the decision in a 12-9 loss to the Reds on Saturday, but surrendered 11 hits, seven earned runs and a walk in 3.2 innings. He struck out two.
Garza came unglued on Saturday, getting touched up for a three-run dinger by old nemesis Jay Bruce to go down 6-1 in a second inning where Cincy batted around. Saturday's performance put the finishing touches on a mostly forgettable August and was the veteran right-hander's second consecutive outing where he allowed seven earned runs. Garza also gave up a home run in each of his trips to the mound during the month, giving him a whopping 23 surrendered in 2015 and pushing his HR/9 rate to a robust 1.44.

Garza was hit with loss No. 14 of the year Sunday afternoon, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and six walks, striking out seven over 4.2 innings.
After opening the month of August with three straight quality starts, Garza has taken a turn for the worse, giving up 13 earned runs over 9.2 innings in his last two outings. The 31-year-old owns a 5.26 ERA and 1.50 WHIP on the year, and only merits fantasy value for select starts in the deepest of formats.

Garza fell to 6-13 after allowing five runs in as many innings Monday against the Marlins. He allowed eight hits, struck out two, and didn't walk a batter.
Garza pounded the strike but just gave up too much solid contact, as he served up three extra-base hits out of the eight hits he allowed. The hiccup snaps a three-start quality start streak; he still owns a 3.44 ERA with 25 strikeouts against 13 walks over 36.2 innings since returning from injury July 21.

Garza (6-12) had one of his best starts on the season on Thursday, allowing one run over seven innings in a win over the Padres. He struck out five and allowed just two hits and two walks.
The strong performance lowered his ERA below five and it appears he's finding some rhythm, as he hasn't allowed more than four runs in six straight starts. The major concern for Garza is the 1.48 WHIP and if he doesn't clean that up, his fantasy relevance in mixed leagues will continue to be meek. His next start comes against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Garza (5-12) allowed three earned runs on four hits across six innings in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Cubs.
In a frustrating year for Garza, this wasn't his worst outing. But he's allowed at least three earned runs in six of his last seven starts, and his ERA has skyrocketed to 5.17. A silver lining for the righty to take away: the four hits he surrendered to Chicago were the fewest he's allowed since May 31. Perhaps it's a sign of things to come, or maybe just an indication of where Garza's game is at right now.

Garza gave up three runs over 5.2 innings Sunday against the Diamondbacks, picking up the loss as the Brewers were shut out.
Garza wasn't fooling many hitters Sunday, giving up seven hits and three walks in the outing. He managed to avoid the longball, which kept the score down at least. With Wily Peralta returning Tuesday, the Brewers are tentatively going with a six-man rotation, but there could be some movement from them by the trade deadline, and that could include Garza. If the status quo remains, he's next scheduled to start Saturday against the Cubs.

Garza picked up his fifth win with six shutout innings Tuesday against Cleveland. He struck out four, walked two and allowed six hits.
Garza was making his first start since going on the disabled list with a shoulder injury July 6 and was on a pitch count. He made it through six innings with just 83 pitches and was cruising. Garza had allowed at least four earned runs in each of his last four starts with 41 hits allowed and a 7.88 ERA over 24 innings. Garza looked good enough Tuesday night to make one wonder if he had been pitching hurt before heading to the disabled list.

Garza (shoulder) was activated from the DL and has been confirmed as Tuesday's starter against the Indians.
The right-hander will step in to oppose Danny Salazar after missing a little over two weeks with a shoulder injury. While Garza hasn't caught many breaks this season -- .317 opponent BABIP, 16% HR/FB -- his 6.2 K/9 is a career low and he's giving up more hard contact than he has since 2011. His 4.95 FIP is third-worst among qualifiers (behind Kyle Kendrick and R.A. Dickey).

Garza (shoulder) is expected to start the Brewers' fourth game after the All-Star break, July 21 against Cleveland, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
A right shoulder injury forced Garza onto the shelf earlier this month, but it sounds like he will slot back into the rotation after missing just a little over the minimum 15 days required by his DL stint. Garza has struggled to a 5.55 ERA so far this season, but his xFIP is more than 130 points lower at 4.22.
Mon Jul 6 201514:48Matt Garza: (Shoulder) Placed On 15-Day DL
Garza (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday.
Garza struggled in his recent starts, allowing four or more runs in each of his last five starts and raising his ERA to 5.55 on the season. The team hasn't officially announced who will start Tuesday in his place, but Tyler Cravy or Jimmy Nelson seem the two likely candidates. The Brewers added Corey Knebel to the 25-man roster in a corresponding move.
Mon Jul 6 201512:48Matt Garza: (Shoulder) Placed On 15-Day DL
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Matt Garza was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a shoulder injury.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Matt Garza was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a shoulder injury. Garza has allowed at last four runs in each of his last five appearances and currently sports a 5.55 ERA. The team has not announced who will start Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. Garza was initially scheduled to start. It remains unclear what the specific nature of the injury is, with the team only noting that it was to his shoulder. Garza is 4-10 with 68 strikeouts in 99 innings this season -- his second in Milwaukee after he agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract back in January 2014. Tyler Cravy and Jimmy Nelson are the two likeliest candidates to take Garza's place in the rotation while he is sidelined, though pitcher Corey Knebel was added to the 25-man roster in a corresponding move.
