Rupp may have an edge over the others competing for the backup catching job in Philadelphia because he is on the 40-man roster, CSN Philly reports.
Rupp is coming off a poor year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, so he is far from a sure thing to win the job. His competition is limited to three non-roster invitees - Koyie Hill, John Hester and Rene Garcia - and two less experienced catchers in Tommy Joseph and Rene Garcia. GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said the team's backup catcher is likely to start 50-70 games this year as the team looks to rest Carlos Ruiz more often.

Rupp was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.
It's not like Rupp swung his way to another promotion (.162/.255/.293), but he was the only other healthy backstop on the Phillies' 40-man roster following Tommy Joseph's season-ending wrist surgery in early August. His opportunities will remain limited behind Carlos Ruiz and Wil Nieves.

Tue Apr 15 201412:40Rupp (oblique) lands on DL in minors
Phillies prospect catcher Cameron Rupp has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A Lehigh Valley due to an oblique strain.
Rupp was off to a good start from a power perspective, hitting .231 (6-for-26) with four home runs and eight RBI nine games. Oblique injuries are tricky, so the 25-year-old could have to miss more than the minimum.

Sun Sep 29 201300:23Cameron Rupp plates two to lead Phillies
Cameron Rupp picked up the first two RBI of his MLB career, leading the Phillies to a 5-4 victory over the Braves on Saturday.
The 25-year-old backstop who is serving as additional catching depth in September, drew a rare start and responded with a 2-for-4 game, including a two-run single off Mike Minor in the first inning. He's unlikely to hold any fantasy value next season.
