LHP Adam Morgan could make the start on Friday against the Cleveland Indians. The Phillies did not announce anything officially after Thursday's game but Morgan has not pitched since April 21 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He was drafted in the third round in 2011 by the Phillies and was 1-1, 3.57 in his first three starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this year. Morgan started April 21 and went seven innings and allowed two runs at Syracuse. He was 5-7 with an ERA of 4.48 in 15 starts last year for the Phillies.

LHPs Adam Morgan and Brett Oberholtzer and RHPs Vincent Velasquez and David Buchanan will compete to be the No. 5 starter behind RHPs Aaron Nola, Jeremy Hellickson, Charlie Morton and Jerad Eickhoff. Morgan, 25 and Buchanan, 26, split last season between the Phillies and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Morgan went 5-7 with a 4.45 ERA in 17 starts during his first crack at the major leagues and 0-6 with a 4.74 ERA in 13 starts at Lehigh Valley.

Morgan will be shut down for the remainder of the season for precautionary reasons, Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

This season was the first year back for Morgan after undergoing a shoulder surgery in January of 2014. Obviously the club wants to err on the side of caution by limiting his outings this season and he'll be rendered useless in everything but dynasty formats as the 2015 campaign comes to an end. The 25-year-old pitcher finishes with an ERA of 4.48 after a total of 84.1 innings on the mound.

Morgan (5-7) surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out three in Friday's loss to Atlanta.

Atlanta's lineup served an elixir to Morgan's pitching woes, but he didn't receiving enough support to notch the win. Despite Friday's quality start, Morgan is still sporting a 5.03 ERA over his last six starts to pair with a mediocre 6.09 K/9. Though he is adept at keeping runners off the bases, a solid 1.18 WHIP over the same six-start span, he isn't worth picking up.

Morgan's next start has been pushed to Friday against the Braves, the Morning Call's Stephen Gross reports.

He was originally scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Nationals, so this is certainly a preferable matchup. That said, Morgan is not very interesting from a fantasy perspective. Alec Asher was moved up to start Wednesday's game.

Morgan allowed four runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out five over five-plus innings of a 5-1 loss to the Cubs on Friday afternoon.

Morgan (5-6, 4.60 ERA) has developed a tendency to pitch fairly well early in games, but then struggle as he faces the opposing batting order for the second and/or third time. In this one, he tossed four shutout innings before coughing up a pair of runs in the fifth, and then putting the first two hitters on in the sixth before leaving. In all fairness, those runners scored with the help of the bullpen, but Morgan's mediocre stuff doesn't appear to play very well as team's become more familiar with what he has to offer.

Morgan's start Thursday has been postponed, and he will start the first game of a doubleheader Friday.

Morgan's Thursday start was postponed due to rain, but he'll just receive an extra day of rest before starting Friday. The move could impact the rotation a bit, as the Phillies don't have a day off for a while, but the expanded rosters should make for an easy adjustment of some kind.

Morgan was thumped for six runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out six over 6.1 innings of a 7-5 loss to the Red Sox on Friday night.

Morgan (5-5, 4.42 ERA) was holding his own, having allowed just three runs in the first six innings, but he ran out of gas in the seventh, giving up three hits including a two-run home run off the bat of Jackie Bradley. After a decent start to the season, hitters are having more success against Morgan's mediocre stuff, so he has become a risky play for fantasy owners.

Morgan picked up his fifth win of the season in the Phillies' 4-3 win over the Padres. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits over six innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

Morgan bounced back nicely after a poor outing against the Mets in his last start. The win Saturday was his fourth quality start in his last five games. He has a 4.03 ERA and a 35:14 K:BB ratio in 67 innings this season. He will face the Red Sox in his next start.

Morgan allowed five runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings Monday against the Mets. He struck out three and walked none.

It was the shortest outing of Morgan's 11-game major league career. He didn't give any free passes, but he did allow four home runs. He is now 4-4 with a 4.43 ERA and a 32:14 K:BB ratio in 61 innings this season.

Morgan (4-4) held the Blue Jays to two runs on five hits over seven innings Wednesday, striking out three in the win.

Well, this was unexpected. Morgan had delivered consecutive quality starts coming in, but he still entered play with an unattractive 4.11 ERA and was facing the mighty Toronto offense. No matter; Morgan generated a ton of contact -- he only threw 83 pitches, and just 25 of them were balls. Still, with just a 29:14 K:BB in 57.1 innings this year, Morgan exposes himself to big swings of batted-ball luck, which makes him a risky fantasy choice. Next up: an intradivisional matchup against the Mets on Monday.

Morgan (3-4) took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in six innings against the Brewers.

Morgan didn't give up much on Friday, allowing just three hits and no walks, but he also struck out just a single batter. None of Morgan's stats make him worthy of being picked up, but he's been especially challenged punching batters out. For the season, Morgan is averaging just 4.6 K/9.

Morgan suffered his third loss of the season Sunday against the Braves, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in five innings.

The lefty allowed too many baserunners on the day, but he was able to skate through four innings before being touched up for four runs in the fifth. He now has a 4.46 ERA after alternating strong and mediocre starts since being called up in late June, and he will look to get back on track Saturday against the Padres.

Morgan earned his second win of the season Tuesday against the Blue Jays, allowing five hits and two earned runs in six innings.

Morgan has now allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last three starts, though he did concede nine hits over 4.1 innings against the Rays last Wednesday.Morgan continues to demonstrate above-average control, but he's struck out only 14 over his last 27.2 innings.

Morgan lasted only 4.1 innings against the Rays on Wednesday, giving up three runs on nine hits while striking out three.

On the bright side, he didn't walk anyone and avoided the loss thanks to a rally by his offense. While Morgan's generally shown solid control over his first five starts in the majors -- just eight walks in 27.1 innings -- he's also failed to miss too many bats, having struck out only 18 in that span. With a matchup against the powerful Jays in Toronto on tap for Tuesday, those who've been deploying Morgan in NL-only or very deep mixed leagues will most likely want to keep him reserved.

Morgan (1-2, 3.91 ERA) has done a credible job in his four starts, but his spot in the rotation is probably going to be on a start-to-start basis for the immediate future. A big plus in this one was his keeping the ball in the park after allowing five long balls in his first three starts.
