Wed Aug 31 201108:30Raburn (finger) singles in return to lineup
Ryan Raburn (finger) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Tuesday in his return to the lineup.
Raburn sat out Sunday and Monday with a jammed right ring finger. He has predictably performed better during the second half, but could lose some playing time once Carlos Guillen (wrist) returns from the disabled list.

Mon Aug 29 201109:05Raburn out Sunday due to jammed thumb
Ryan Raburn sat out of Sunday's game against the Twins due to a jammed right ring finger.
Raburn jammed the finger while sliding into second base Saturday and found it difficult to grip a bat on Sunday morning due to the lingering swelling. The Tigers' medical staff is calling him "day-to-day."

Wed Aug 3 201122:39Raburn has big night against Rangers
Ryan Raburn paced the Tigers in their 5-4 win over the Rangers on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
A nice night for Raburn, who was making his first start of August. However, it would have been much nicer had it come against a righty (the Rangers sent southpaw Matt Harrison to the hill). Raburn should remain a no-go in mixed leagues going forward.

Wed Jul 27 201118:23Ryan Raburn goes hitless in loss
Ryan Raburn went 0-for-3 with a walk as the Tigers' No. 2 hitter in Wednesday's loss.
It makes sense for the Tigers to keep playing Raburn against lefties, but do they really need to hit him second? He entered the day with a .259 OBP that was only a bit better at .290 against southpaws. Carlos Guillen would seem to be a better choice in that spot.

Thu Jul 7 201123:20Ryan Raburn hits two-run jack
Ryan Raburn hit a two-run jack in Thursday's win over the Royals.
Don Kelly added an insurance run late with a solo shot, but it was Raburn's blast that proved to be the difference in the game. After entering the year as sleeper in some fantasy owners' eyes, Raburn has disappointed at the plate, hitting .206 with eight homers and 31 RBI.

Wed Jun 15 201120:25Ryan Raburn could see less playing time
Tigers manager Jim Leyland indicated that Ryan Raburn could continue to see his playing time dwindle if he doesn't pick up his production at the plate soon.
"I think you just ride it out until you make some kind of decision -- play him more, play him less, whatever," Leyland said. "I mean, we hit extra, we do all the things that everybody else does, so there's no secret formula for it. Just keep working at it and hope he catches fire. If he doesn't, you play somebody else." Ramon Santiago has started four of the last seven games at second base and would be in line for even more playing time if Raburn rides the bench.

Wed Jun 1 201114:46Raburn not in Wednesday's lineup
Ryan Raburn is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Twins.
We expected Raburn to take over as the regular second baseman following the trade of Scott Sizemore, but Jim Leyland has called an audible over the past two days. Ramon Santiago will make the start at second base Wednesday and bat second against right-hander Scott Baker.

Tue May 31 201123:49Raburn to play second base Wednesday
Ryan Raburn is expected to play second base Wednesday against the Twins.
Raburn was named the starting second baseman following the trade of Scott Sizemore, but he found himself in left field Tuesday. His fantasy value will increase once he qualifies at second base, though he's batting just .197 with 57 strikeouts over his first 157 at-bats this season.

Sat May 28 201112:06Ryan Raburn to take over as everyday 2B
Ryan Raburn is expected to become the Tigers' everyday second baseman after Scott Sizemore was traded Friday.
Though he is known more as an outfielder, Raburn has started at second 60 times in his career, including five times this season, and he came up through the minors initially as an infielder. The defense won't be pretty, but the Tigers are hoping Raburn, who is batting just .200/.244/.338 with four homers on the season, can give them more offense. "Hopefully we can get his bat going," manager Jim Leyland said. "It would be a big plus. My plan had been to play him there until Scotty was doing so well at Toledo that we said 'bring him up.' That's the plan. We're going to put Raburn out there, turn him loose and see if we can get some more offense. We need it."

Fri Apr 22 201122:02Ryan Raburn homers, drives in four
Ryan Raburn had a two-run homer and two-RBI single in the win over the White Sox Friday.
It's his second straight game with a tater, and he has a modest four-game hitting streak going after a woeful start to the season. Raburn is now batting .242 with three homers and 10 RBI, though he's struck out a whopping 25 times in 65 at-bats.

Tue Apr 19 201102:46Tigers' Raburn starts at second base
The Tigers gave Ryan Raburn his first start of the year at second base on Monday and he went 1-for-5 against the Mariners.
Detroit soured on Raburn as a second baseman last year, but with Magglio Ordonez back and Brennan Boesch hitting, they decided it was worth putting him back in the infield in order to keep their best lineup together. It worked out fine for one night, as the Tigers won 8-3.

Sat Apr 9 201118:58Raburn's homer not enough for Detroit
Ryan Raburn's ninth-inning solo homer provided the Tigers' lone run in their loss to the Royals on Saturday.
The bomb was his first of the season. Getting out-played by Brennan Boesch right now, don't expect Raburn to get too many starts against right-handers for the time being.

Tue Mar 1 201116:49Tigers' Raburn homers, triples in victory
Ryan Raburn contributed an RBI triple and a two-run homer as a Tigers split-squad defeated the Phillies 6-2 on Tuesday.
He tripled off Cliff Lee in the first and later took former teammate Eddie Bonine deep in the fifth. Always a part-timer in the past, Raburn will open the season as the Tigers' everyday left fielder. He earned the opportunity by hitting 31 homers in 632 at-bats over the last two years, but his numbers could suffer with 70 percent of his starts likely to come against righties.
Wed Jan 12 201116:31Raburn's two-year deal worth $3.4 million
Ryan Raburn's new two-year contract is worth $3.4 million.
Raburn inked the deal on Wednesday and is now covered through his first two seasons of arbitration eligibility. He posted a strong .280 batting average and 814 OPS over 371 at-bats last season for the Tigers, slugging 15 homers, 25 doubles and collecting 62 RBI. He should get significant time in left field in 2011 and may be relevant in deeper mixed leagues.

Wed Jan 12 201114:46Tigers, Raburn avoid arb. with 2-yr deal
Tigers and OF Ryan Raburn avoided arbitration Wednesday by agreeing to a two-year contract.
Terms weren't officially disclosed. Raburn, who turns 30 in April, was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, though the club still has another year of team control after the contract expires. Raburn batted .280/.340/.474 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI last season and projects to see significant time in left field in 2011. He is eligible at second base in some leagues, so he could be a sneaky sleeper in mixed formats.

Mon Oct 4 201010:04Raburn could open 2011 as top left fielder
Ryan Raburn is likely to open 2011 as the Tigers' everyday left fielder.
"We feel he will be a primary guy," GM Dave Dombrowski acknowledged Sunday. The 29-year-old Raburn hit .280/.340/.474 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 371 at-bats this season and is worth monitoring in AL-only leagues.

Tue Sep 21 201023:24Raburn hits fourteenth homer in loss
Ryan Raburn hit his fourteenth home run in a Tigers' loss Tuesday night.
Raburn doesn't have a great sense of the plate - he doesn't walk much, and strikes out a little too often - so the .270 batting average seems about right. He more than makes up for that with good power that looks legit, so he's a fine outfielder in deeper leagues (and an even better second baseman, where he's played enough games to retain his eligibility there in most leagues).
Tue Sep 7 201007:51Ryan Raburn used as pinch-hitter Monday
Ryan Raburn (flu) was used as a pinch-hitter Monday.
Raburn was supposed to start Sunday's game but was scratched just before first pitch due to flu-like symptoms. He should be fine moving forward.
