RHP Ivan Nova made his third consecutive impressive start Thursday night, limiting the Athletics to one run on four hits in six innings in the Yankees' 4-1 win. It was the third straight time the right-hander limited the opponent to a single run. Despite his success, Nova's next start is no sure thing. He was promoted to the rotation when LHP CC Sabathia got injured earlier this month, and Sabathia is scheduled to return from the disabled list and start Friday night.

His salary was $3.3 million each of the past two seasons. The new contract includes the potential for $100,000 in performance bonuses.Nova, 29, returned from Tommy John elbow surgery in June last year and made 17 starts for the Yankees, finishing with a 6-11 record and a 5.07 ERA.

Nova took the loss in Game 1 of Saturday's double-header against the Orioles, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.2 innings while striking out four.

His season ends with a thud, and Nova now has a rough 7.25 ERA over his final seven appearances (36 innings). With an offseason to rest and further strengthen his surgically repaired elbow though, he could still be in the mix for a rotation spot next spring.

Nova will start one of the games in Saturday's double header against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

Nova was tentatively scheduled to pitch Saturday anyway, so Friday's postponement doesn't effect him too much. Luis Severino will be tabbed to start the other contest, though the club hasn't decided who will start which game yet.

Nova lost his 10th game Monday against the Red Sox as he allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out seven.

Nova was brilliant early, as he allowed just three hits and a walk through five scoreless innings to begin the start. But the Red Sox tagged him for a pair of home runs in the next two innings, continuing a trend this year. Nova has now allowed 12 home runs in 16 starts and owns a brutal 1.2 HR/9, the main driver behind his 4.89 ERA.

Nova will start Monday against the Red Sox, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports.

Between his strong performance the last time out -- striking out six in 5.2 innings while allowing just one run -- and the news that Masahiro Tanaka (hamstring) won't be ready to return Monday, Nova will get at least one more turn in the rotation. The 28-year-old put up a solid start his last time out against Boston, allowing three runs in six innings in a losing effort.

Nova (6-9) allowed just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six in 5.2 innings Wednesday against Toronto, but took the loss.

Unfortunately for Nova, Marcus Stroman was outstanding on the other end, negating the 28-year-old's strong effort. It was his first start in 11 days, as the Jays helped boot Nova from the Yankees' rotation by blowing him up for six runs in less than two innings back on Sept. 12. It seems likely he'll stay in the rotation to start against the visiting Red Sox next week.

Nova will start Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Newsday reports.

Just four days after being told he'd be moved into the bullpen, Nova will be reinserted into the starting rotation for at least one turn, filling in for the injured Masahiro Tanaka. Nova struggled mightily his last time out, also against Toronto, lasting just 1.2 innings after allowing six runs on seven hits, but he'll look to turn in a better performance in the series finale.

Nova has been moved to the bullpen, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

After back-to-back quality starts, Nova imploded Saturday against Toronto, giving up six runs on seven hits and a walk in just 1.2 innings. The loss dropped him to 6-8 with a 5.11 ERA and 1.40 ERA, so the Yankees will deploy him out of the bullpen for now, and perhaps continue with Adam Warren as the fifth starter for the rest of the regular season.

Nova could get out of the second inning Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk over 1.2 innings while striking out one.

He's now given up at least three runs in seven straight starts, making Nova a risky play if you're trying to preserve your ratios. If you need him though, his next start comes Friday in Citi Field against the Mets.

Nova will start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Toronto.

The Yankees announced Friday that Nova will take the hill for the nightcap, while Michael Pineda will start the afternoon game. Saturday's doubleheader comes as a result of Thursday's game being rained out.

Nova will start one of Saturday's games against the Blue Jays, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

The division rivals will play a doubleheader Saturday after Thursday's game was postponed. Manager Joe Girardi confirmed Nova will start one of Saturday's games, but he has not yet decided if it will be the early or late contest. Michael Pineda will start the other game Saturday, while Luis Severino, Thursday's scheduled starter, will take the hill Friday.

Nova (6-7) pitched six innings, allowing three runs with three strikeouts, as he picked up the win against the Rays Sunday.

It was the second straight quality start for Nova, as his ERA stayed at an even 4.50. The 28-year-old's lack of high volume strikeout numbers could be concerning for fantasy owners though, as Nova has had four or fewer strikeouts in five straight starts. He'll look to level his record at .500 next time out Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Ivan Nova (5-7) surrendered seven hits, three earned runs and a walk in six innings in a 4-3 loss to the Red Sox on Monday. He struck out three.

Nova endured a rocky August in which he went 2-4 with a 5.71 ERA, getting touched up for 21 earned runs in 33.1 innings. Although he only surrendered four fly balls Monday, two of those left the yard, ultimately serving as the difference in a one-run loss. Nova continued to be particularly tormented by David Ortiz, who was responsible for one of those gopher balls and also doubled in his subsequent at-bat. After a strong opening start in his return from Tommy John surgery in June, Nova has now dropped four of seven decisions.

Nova (5-6) got through just four innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits as he picked up the loss Tuesday to the Astros.

After a few less than stellar outings, this was by far Nova's worst start since returning from Tommy John surgery earlier this year, as the four walks, seven earned runs, and just one strikeout were all marked season-worst totals. His ERA jumped to 4.50, which is now more in line with his 4.43 FIP, but he'll look to get back on track Monday against the Red Sox.
