Nova (5-5) allowed three runs on six hits and a pair of walks over five innings Thursday in a loss to Cleveland.
Nova was roundly outpitched by opposing starter Josh Tomlin, and with two walks and four strikeouts, he continued to keep up his precisely 2:1 K:BB ratio. The 3.72 ERA he's sitting on isn't horrible, but that 4.11 FIP and 4.34 xFIP point to further increases on the horizon.

Nova (finger) will make his scheduled start Thursday against Cleveland, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
Nova was hit in the finger by a ground ball during his last outing Friday, and while he was considered day-to-day, it never appeared as though his status was in much jeopardy. He'll take the hill Thursday night, as planned, opposing Cleveland's Josh Tomlin.
Thu Aug 20 201513:33Ivan Nova: (Finger) Will Start Thursday
New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova will start Thursday against the Cleveland Indians after injuring his finger in his last outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to New York Newsday.
New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova will start Thursday against the Cleveland Indians after injuring his finger in his last outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to New York Newsday. Nova was concerned that his finger was severely injured after he was hit by shortstop Troy Tulowitski's line drive in the third inning, but he stayed in the contest through seven innings, allowing three runs in the victory. "I thought I broke my finger; it was hurting bad," Nova told the Mew York Daily News. "But (when) I saw (manager) Joe (Girardi) and (athletic trainer) Stevie (Donohue) coming out, I thought, 'We've got to keep pitching. We’ve got to keep pitching.' We've been using the bullpen a lot. I was focused on going deep in the game." Nova will take the mound after tests undergone on his finger returned negative.
Tue Aug 18 201509:00Nova (finger) slated to start Thursday against Indians
Nova (finger) is slated to start Thursday against the Indians, the NY Post reports.
Nova didn't appear to be in serious jeopardy of missing a start after a groundball deflected off his finger Friday, but the club elected to insert a sixth pitcher into the rotation this week to give the 28-year-old an extra day off.

Nova is expected to make his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Twins despite being hit in the finger in Friday's win, the NY Post reports.
Nova underwent tests Friday after a Troy Tulowitzki groundball deflected off his ring finger, but everything came back negative. It appears to just be a minor issue, and though both the pitcher and manager Joe Girardi are taking it cautiously, Nova figures to be ready by Wednesday.

Nova allowed three runs on five hits, walking one and striking out three over seven innings of a 4-3 win over Toronto on Friday night.
It was a bend but don't break outing for Nova (5-4, 3.57 ERA) as holding the Blue Jays to three runs in their home park is no easy task. They got to him for all three runs in the third inning, and he actually left the game trailing 3-0 but the Yankees, desperately needing to slow down the surging Jays, put up four in the top of the eighth to put him in line for the win.

Nova took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings while striking out six.
He made it unscathed through five innings, but a sixth-inning grand slam by Justin Smoak ended his day abruptly. Nova still has a solid 3.52 ERA through eight starts since coming off the DL, but his mediocre 31:16 K:BB ratio in 46 innings suggests that ERA could continue to rise. He'll get another crack at the Blue Jays on Friday in Toronto.

Nova won his third straight start Sunday against the White Sox, allowing just one run with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
The right-hander allowed just five hits (all singles) and allowed just one man past second base in this strong outing. Nova has four wins and a 3.10 ERA through seven starts since returning from Tommy John surgery and will look to tame the tough Toronto lineup in his next scheduled start.
Sun Aug 2 201512:53Nova (arm) will start Sunday against White Sox
Nova (arm) will start Sunday against the White Sox, YES Network reports.
Nova had to be lifted early from Monday's start due to arm fatigue, but was confident he'd make his regularly scheduled start Sunday. As expected, he'll take on Jeff Samardzija and the White Sox in the afternoon contest.
Wed Jul 29 201512:10Nova (arm) expects to make next scheduled start Sunday
Nova (arm) expects to make his next scheduled start Sunday, the New York Daily News reports. "I'm not hurt or anything like that, so there isn't any reason to think that I'm not going to pitch," Nova said. "It was something that happened during the game last night, but today is a normal day for me. I feel good."
Nova left his last start Monday after five innings due to arm fatigue, but he doesn't appear to be concerned about the issue going forward. "He woke up today and said it was pretty much normal," manager Joe Girardi said. "We still have him scheduled to pitch on Sunday. We'll have him do his bullpen and go from there. I feel OK about it." Considering Nova is coming off of Tommy John surgery, the fatigue is likely nothing out of the ordinary, so expect to see him back on the mound Sunday in Chicago.

Nova (3-3) gave up just two runs and came away with the win Monday in Texas, but was removed after only five innings and 75 pitches due to arm fatigue, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
Manager Joe Girardi said Nova was "a little bit tired," which may be true or may simply be coach speak. Considering Nova is coming off Tommy John surgery, arm fatigue from a relatively light workload like this has to be a concern for Nova and the Yankees. We'll likely learn more in the coming days.

Nova (2-3) allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three over six innings Wednesday in a win over the Orioles.
As usual, Nova's game was generating grounders, and he induced 10 of them in this one, but both runs came on a two-run homer by Ryan Flaherty. The fact that Nova has only struck out 15 batters over 29.2 innings in his first five starts has to be a concern for fantasy owners, as he used to miss many more bats back in his heyday (which was pretty much 2011 and 2013). It's hard to support an ERA in the low threes when you're barely striking out a batter every other inning. Nova will take his show on the road Monday against Texas.

Nova (1-3) surrendered four runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings in a loss at Fenway Park on Saturday.
Nova didn't issue a walk after allowing at least two free passes in every start this season, but only struck out three Red Sox on the night. The 28-year-old has a horrendous 12:7 K/BB ratio in four appearances since returning from Tommy John surgery, but some hiccups were expected following a procedure that kept Nova out of the majors for over a year. The 6.2 innings pitched tied a season high, and Nova will continue to build endurance as he looks to regain his pre-injury form following the All-Star break.

Nova fell to 1-2 as he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
After turning in a pair of strong performances in his first two starts of the season, Nova took a slight step back Sunday. The 28-year-old is still struggling a bit with his command after coming back from Tommy John surgery, as he has just nine strikeouts compared to seven walks, but sports a solid 2.65 ERA through three starts. He'll look to get back in the win column in his final start before the All-Star break, Saturday against the Red Sox.
Fri Jul 3 201521:34Nova will have next start moved up to this Sunday against Rays
Nova will have his next start moved up to this Sunday against the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
With Nova faring well in his first two starts with the Yankees since returning from Tommy John surgery, manager Joe Girardi felt comfortable moving him up ahead of CC Sabathia in the rotation. Nova, who was originally scheduled to make his next turn Tuesday versus the Athletics, will now be on course for a two-start week in most formats, with his latter turn coming Saturday, July 11 in Boston.

Nova (1-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Angels as he alloweed two runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.1 innings.
Nova is still stretching his arm out after missing most of 2014; he was taken out after just 85 pitches Tuesday. His return thus far has been a success, as he has a 1.50 ERA with eight strikeouts against four walks in 12 innings. He was tagged for a pair of solo home runs Tuesday but induced six ground balls and 13 swinging strikes. We'll see if he can stay as sharp as his workload increases.

Nova (1-0) returned from the disabled list with 6.2 shutout innings Wednesday afternoon against the Phillies, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out one.
In his first start since having Tommy John surgery, Nova had the right opponent in cellar-dwelling Philadelphia, as the Phillies couldn't do anything against him despite making a ton of contact. Of course, we can't really judge Nova for a lack of strikeouts in his first start coming off such a long absence, and he's got a history of missing a decent number of bats. He'll line up against the Angels for his next start Tuesday.
Wed Jun 24 201512:11Nova (elbow) officially activated from 60-day disabled list
Nova (elbow) has been officially activated from the 60-day disabled list, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Nova was already announced as the pitcher for Wednesday's game, so it was just a matter of time before the move was made. He will replace Brendan Ryan (who was placed on the 15-day DL) on the 25-man roster, and shouldn't be limited much (95-100 pitches) in his season debut.

Nova (elbow) will be able to throw 95-100 pitches in Wednesday's start against the Phillies, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports.
Nova will make his first major league start Wednesday since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April. He'll receive a generally favorable matchup in the Phillies, and it looks as though his pitch restrictions shouldn't limit his innings too much, making him an option for those considering him in daily leagues.
Wed Jun 24 201509:37Ivan Nova: (Elbow) Able to Throw 95-100 Pitches Wednesday
New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova will be able to throw 95 to 100 pitches in his season-debut Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to ESPN New York.
New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova will be able to throw 95 to 100 pitches in his season-debut Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to ESPN New York. Nova has been sidelined since undergoing Tommy John surgery last April, but he says he is ready to be back with the big club after the long layoff. "This is the only thing I can do," Nova said. "This is the only thing I know, to play baseball. I love to do [it]. I'm a big fan of baseball. Even when people say, 'It is hard. The traveling. Being away from the family.' Personally, I'll take traveling [over being] at home sitting around. Good moment, a bad moment -- you want to be part of that." Nova will replace shortstop Brendan Ryan on the 25-man roster after he was placed on the disabled list Thursday because of a thoracic strain.
