Jimenez was left off the ALCS roster, MASN Sports reports.

Jimenez did not pitch in Baltimore's sweep of the Tigers in the ALDS, so the Orioles elected to go with Brian Matusz on the ALCS roster. Jimenez struggled as a starter during the regular season and was moved to the bullpen late in the season. The Orioles already have Kevin Gausman available to pitch in long relief. Jimenez seems unlikely to make the World Series roster unless the move backfires in the ALCS, either with Matusz failing or with the team running out of relievers in prolonged extra innings.

Miguel Gonzalez will get the start in the final regular season game Sunday, and Jimenez will likely see action out of the bullpen in that game.

Jimenez gave up two runs on three hits while walking three and fanning three across five innings in a win over the Yankees on Tuesday.

It took five O's pitchers after Jimenez to get the job done, but he eventually came away with his sixth win of the season. The ninth-year big leaguer wraps up the regular season with a 4.85 ERA and 1.53 WHIP through 124.1 innings and will likely be on the outside looking in of Baltimore's starting rotation when they open up the postseason next week.

He threw a bullpen session Saturday and with the division crown locked up, the Orioles have nothing to lose by letting Jimenez try to regain some semblance of success on the mound as a starter before the postseason. In 115 innings as a starter this season, Jimenez has a 4.77 ERA and a 104:70 K:BB ration, which highlights how much he has struggled with his control this season. Only those desperate for counting stats should deploy Jimenez in his final start of the season.

It was reported earlier that Jimenez would make at least one more start before the season ends, and it appears that date is approaching. He was removed from the starting rotation after posting bad numbers. He pitched well in his last start Wednesday, allowing just two runs over five innings of work while picking up the win.

Jimenez will start Tuesday against the Blue Jays, MASNsports.com reports.

Manager Buck Showalter will summon Jimenez from the bullpen, with the team in need of a sixth starter following Friday's doubleheader. Jimenez gave up three runs on a hit and three walks while recording just one out in his last appearance Aug. 31, bringing his ERA and WHIP to 4.96 and 1.56, respectively.

Having Jimenez available in the bullpen turned out to be handy for the Orioles, as Jimenez pitched following a three hour rain delay after the second inning. Jimenez would need to string together several good bullpen outings to have another shot at the rotation. "He had the 75 pitches in four innings, Showalter told MASN Sports. That's still a lot of pitches, but he was pretty effective and I was glad to see that."

Jimenez was given a fair chance to re-establish a hold on a rotation spot, but he allowed nine runs on 11 hits and six walks over 10.1 innings in two outings after returning from an ankle injury. The team will turn back to Miguel Gonzalez this weekend and make available to eat innings in long relief starting Tuesday.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter was non-committal when asked about Jimenez's chances of making another start, Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.

The comments followed another disappointing start from Jimenez on Saturday, who now has a 4.83 ERA in his first campaign with the Orioles. With Miguel Gonzalez at their disposal as a sixth starter, the O's could conceivably shift Jimenez to long relief if desired, but he's in the first season of a four-year, $50 million deal.

Jimenez, meanwhile, sports a mediocre 4.52 ERA and 1.53 WHIP on the season, and has been especially abysmal during afternoon affairs like Saturday's, going 0-5 with a 10.55 in his previous five daytime starts. The four-year, $50 million contract Jimenez signed in the offseason may be the only reason he might continue to hold down a starting job if he scuffles Saturday.

He has been slow to work his way back from the ankle injury, but he made a rehab start with short-season Aberdeen Tuesday, for which he had a 65-pitch cap. Right now the Orioles don't have a glaring whole in the rotation, based on Jimenez's mediocre production prior to the injury. However, once he's ready to go back to the big leagues, the Orioles will no doubt kick someone out in favor of Jimenez, whom they have more invested in.

Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) allowed one unearned run on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 4 2/3 frames in his first rehab start with Short Season-Aberdeen.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said before he knew the results of the appearance that it's possible Jimenez will be rejoin the big club's rotation after the outing. "We'll see, if it goes well,'' Showalter said. "We can pitch him at [Triple-A] Norfolk or activate him. We'll see [after] tonight." Jimenez has been out since mid-July with a sprained right ankle.
