RHP Ubaldo Jimenez will get the start Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals despite his recent struggles. In his last outing Thursday against Boston, Jimenez started strong and allowed just one hit over the first five innings. But things fell apart in the sixth when he allowed five runs on six hits, including a three-run homer to David Ortiz that allowed the Red Sox to take a 5-4 lead. Jimenez has allowed 28 runs (24 earned) and 33 hits with 16 walks in 21 2/3 innings in his past five starts. He's 2-6 with a 6.59 ERA in 11 starts this season.

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez still can't find that consistency. He gave up just one hit in five shutout innings versus Boston Thursday, and then the Red Sox nailed him for five runs in the sixth, knocking the right-hander out of the game. Jimenez has struggled for the past month and hasn't been able to put it all together. "They just came out swinging (there)," said Jimenez. "They hit pretty much everything I threw. I threw a couple fastballs up. In the first five innings, everything was down. I just got bit in that inning."

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez's slump grew deeper Saturday as his start only lasted 50 pitches. In 1 2/3 innings Jimenez (2-6) gave up six runs, three earned, on five hits, with one strikeout and three walks. In his last four starts Jimenez has a 10.26 ERA. In 16 2/3 innings he's given up 27 hits and 14 walks. "The biggest problem was his command. He wasn't able to get the ball where he needs to get it," said Manager Buck Showalter.

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez lost his fourth straight road game on Sunday. He is winless in four tries. Jimenez gave up six earned runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out three. He struck out SS Gregorio Petit in the sixth inning to record his 1,500th strikeout, which is third among active Dominican Republic-born pitchers, behind Ervin Santana and Bartolo Colon. Jimenez is 1-6 all-time against the Angels.

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez seeks to reverse his poor performance this season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. Since winning his first start on April 7, Jimenez lost four of his next five decisions while allowing 47 hits, 27 earned runs and 24 walks in 38 innings. Opponents are batting .304 against Jimenez for the season, including .326 in May. He needs three strikeouts to reach 1,500 for his career.

"It's disappointing," Jimenez said. "As a starting pitcher you want to get deeper and give your team a chance to win. But it's just part of the game. I have to keep working and find a way to move on and get ready for my next one."

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez struggled after turning in a very good effort in his last start, a victory over Oakland. Jimenez walked four with only two strikeouts and allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings. He ended up with a no-decision but again is showing the inconsistency that's plagued him since coming to Baltimore in 2014. "I didn't think his breaking ball was as crisp," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He had really good late finish on the split last time out. He had a little bit more of a tumbler tonight. Against those guys it doesn't work too well."

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez showed the kind of command the Orioles want to see on a regular basis when he went eight innings in Saturday's nightcap. Jimenez struck out six and walked just one, staying ahead of the Oakland batters throughout and scattering nine hits while giving up just two runs in his work. He wanted to avoid walks, something that's caused the right-hander trouble too many times with the Orioles. "Every time I walk a guy, it seems like they find a way to score," he said. "It doesn't matter how. So I try to find a way to stay away from that."

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez had command struggles Sunday against the White Sox. He endured some of the same issues when he signed with the Orioles in 2014. His mechanics have since improved over the past two seasons. Jimenez is confident the latest performance was an aberration. Against Chicago, he gave up a season-high six runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts over just 4 2/3 innings. He also had a wild pitch and hit two batters. "Pretty much every good pitch that I threw, they were able to get a base hit," he said.

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez pitched well Tuesday, making one costly mistake -- a two-out, two-strike home run to Kevin Kiermaier in the sixth that turned a 1-1 game into what would end up a 3-1 loss. He struck out six, allowing only six hits, but one bad pitch cost him in the end.

Jimenez gave up four runs with five strikeouts and four walks during his five-inning stint in an April 13 loss at Boston and went to 10 full counts in this game. "(The balls) were moving everywhere," he said. "It was moving a lot. I felt like I was close on some, but not close enough. They were moving too much."

RHP Ubaldo Jimenez settled down after a rough beginning Thursday. He gave up two runs on six hits in the first two innings plus two batters but then allowed only two more hits after that, going seven innings overall and getting the win in the 4-2 victory over the Twins. He struck out nine without a walk. The Orioles need this kind of effort from him consistently. "I think the first couple of innings, they were looking for the fastball right away," Jimenez said. "They were hitting, and they came out swinging. But after that, we started throwing all kinds of breaking balls."

Jimenez surrendered five hits, three earned runs and three walks over six innings against the Yankees on Saturday. He struck out seven but did not factor into the decision.

Jimenez wrapped up the 2015 campaign with a strong September, going 3-1 for the month with a solid 3.23 ERA over six starts. Saturday's performance also marked the third consecutive quality start for the veteran, as well as the third time over the last four outings that he did not give up a homer. Jimenez turned in a productive season for the Orioles overall, doubling his win total from 2014 and lowering his BB/9 rate from last season's awful 5.53 to a still-elevated but more respectable 3.33.

Jimenez was a tough-luck loser Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.

The 31-year-old threw his second straight quality start, the fourth in his last five outings, but the Orioles offense couldn't muster even a single run of support. Jiminez has been hit-or-miss this season, as his 4.10 ERA will support, and he will make his final start of 2015 against the Yankees this Friday.

Jimenez (12-9) surrendered only three hits and one run (unearned) in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Nationals. He gave up five walks but also struck out five.

Jimenez turned in his most dominant performance since an Aug. 8 blanking of the Angels, although his control was typically spotty. The five free passes Jimenez handed out in Tuesday were his second-highest total in a game this season. The walks also helped bring about the second-highest pitch count in a game for the veteran right-hander in 2015, with his 110 offerings on Tuesday eclipsed only by the 118 he threw in the aforementioned, eight-inning shutout of Anaheim. Jimenez will attempt to tie his third-highest victory total in a season (13) in his final start of the campaign against the Red Sox next Sunday.

Jimenez did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 6-5 defeat of the Red Sox, surrendering six hits, four earned runs and three walks in five innings. He struck out four.

Jimenez was relatively sharp in spite of the trio of free passes, throwing 58 of his 91 pitches for strikes and managing to secure first-pitch strikes on an impressive 16 of the 24 batters that he faced. He also managed to stay away from the long ball against a potent Red Sox lineup, marking the second time in his last three starts he has not surrendered a gopher ball after yielding one in four consecutive starts to close out August. Jimenez sports an 11-9 record in 2015 but once again likely hampered his chances for a better mark with a 1.37 WHIP rate that is right in line with his career number of 1.36 in that category.

Jimenez (11-9) beat the Yankees on Wednesday, striking out eight over seven innings while allowing three runs on four hits.

This game perfectly encapsulates why Ubaldo has been such a maddening pitcher to own this season -- a sparkling, no-walk effort in which he put only four men on base and got a win, yet still somehow disappointingly gave up three runs. It's the first time he's even finished six innings in his last six starts, and his highest strikeout total since June 17. All this against a Yankees team that rocked him for seven runs in less than three innings back on July 23.
