Stewart (hamstring) will miss the next two weeks and could begin the season on the disabled list, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Stewart is in line for additional playing time over 2014 if he can stay healthy. He batted .294/.362/.331 in 154 at-bats last season, though only five of his 40 hits went for extra bases. Tony Sanchez would likely take his backup spot if Pittsburgh decides to disable Stewart.

Stewart is suffering from a minor hamstring issue, but manager Clint Hurdle hopes he will return Tuesday, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Stewart's injury appears to be minor, but it's worth noting in case it turns into something more. He's slated to serve as the Pirates backup catcher in 2015, but Tony Sanchez is also in the mix.
Fri Jan 16 201511:33Stewart and Pirates avoided arbitration by agreeing to one-year
Stewart and the Pirates avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.225 million contract Friday, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports.
Stewart served as the Pirates' backup catcher last season and is the favorite to do so again in 2015. The Pirates' new primary catcher, Francisco Cervelli, has had trouble staying healthy in his career, so Stewart could see more action than reserve catchers typically do.

Stewart (wrist) was included on the Pirates' Wild Card roster.
Russell Martin (hamstring) is expected to start, but Stewart is healthy enough to assume his typical backup duties. Tony Sanchez will be available as well in case both players experience complications with their injuries.
Sun Sep 28 201416:45X-rays on Stewart's left wrist came back negative
X-rays on Stewart's left wrist came back negative, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Stewart exited Sunday's game after his hand caught the backswing in one of pitcher Johnny Cueto's at-bats. No fractures were revealed, but he does have a serious bruise on his left hand, and should be considered day-to-day moving forward. Russell Martin (hamstring) will likely be ready for Wednesday's NL Wild Card matchup, but if not, Stewart would be the likely backup, provided the swelling goes down.
Sun Sep 28 201415:38Stewart left Sunday's game with hand/wrist injury
Stewart left Sunday's game with a hand/wrist injury, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Stewart was hit on his hand on the backswing of a Johnny Cueto RBI hit, and had to be removed from the game as a result. Tony Sanchez came into the game to serve as his replacement. Sanchez could be in line to see extra work if a catcher is needed in a tiebreaker game Monday or Wild Card contest Wednesday, as fellow backstop Russell Martin is also nursing a hamstring injury.

He only has 20 at-bats since June, but might be an option in daily leagues on days when scheduling is thin. For the season, Stewart is batting .283/.374/.313 with no homers and six RBI in 99 at-bats.

Wed Mar 19 201415:55C Stewart undergoes minor knee procedure
Chris Stewart underwent a minor surgical procedure on his right knee Wednesday.
The surgery wasn't considered invasive and no further procedures will be required. It's unknown at the present hour if Stewart, acquired from the Yankees in December for a player to be named later or cash considerations, will require a DL stint to begin the season. If that's the case, it'll clear room for Tony Sanchez to serve as Russell Martin's backup.

Mon Mar 17 201413:22Chris Stewart likely to have knee surgery
Chris Stewart will visit Dr. James Andrews to have his right knee examined, with surgery seen as "probable."
It's not clear how long he'd be sidelined, but obviously even a minor operation would rule him out for Opening Day. That would clear room for Tony Sanchez to serve as Russell Martin's backup.

Sat Nov 16 201309:13Yanks likely to non-tender Chris Stewart
Chad Jennings of LoHud.com believes that Chris Stewart is likely to be non-tendered by the Yankees.
Jennings notes that the Yankees have already made it clear that Francisco Cervelli will return next season, and that there's no reason to send Austin Romine back to Triple-A. Rather than spending guaranteed money on a defensive-first option like Stewart, they should be able to secure a similar type of player on a minor league deal.

Sun Sep 8 201316:39Chris Stewart expected to miss a few games
Chris Stewart is expected to miss a few games after bruising his foot in Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
Stewart was removed from the game after being hit by a pitch. Austin Romine replaced him, and figures to be the biggest beneficiary while Stewart is sidelined. If you're looking at either of these options, you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel in deep two-catcher mixed leagues.
