Mon Aug 3 201518:00Szczur recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Monday
Szczur was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Szczur struggled mightily with the Cubs his first go around, but has posted a respectable .295/.360/.451 batting line in Triple-A. He'll serve as another bat off the bench for the Cubs, but could see the occasional spot start.
Sun Jul 5 201511:17Szczur optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday
Szczur was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
Szczur saw the occasional outfield start while Jorge Soler (ankle) was on the DL, but was ultimately passed on the depth chart by both Chris Denorfia and Mike Baxter. As a result, Szczur and his .562 OPS were deemed expendable when a roster spot was needed to activate Soler.

Earning the start in left field, Szczur was responsible for the only run of the game, doubling home Anthony Rizzo in the sixth inning.
Szczur's two hits made up exactly half of the hits mustered by the Cubs Tuesday. The outfielder has struggled with the bat in a part-time role, hitting .214 with just eight RBI.

Szczur homered in his first game back in the major leagues Monday against the Dodgers, a solo shot off Clayton Kershaw.
With Kyle Schwarber back in the minors and Jorge Soler on the disabled list, the Cubs need another right-handed batter to man the outfield against lefties. Szczur has an awful .561 career OPS but has a more palatable .717 mark against left-handed pitching. It's hard to imagine him sticking around for long unless he shows an uptick in power -- he had just six extra-base hits in 98 career at-bats entering Monday's game.

Szczur has been called up from Triple-A Iowa and is in the lineup Monday against the Dodgers, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Szczur will return from Triple-A to take the roster spot of Kyle Schwarber, who was optioned earlier Monday. Szczur has struggled in 23 games with the Cubs this season, hitting just .167 with 13 strikeouts in 36 at-bats. He'll bat sixth and man left field against Dodgers' starter Clayton Kershaw.
Sun Jun 7 201512:42Szczur optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday
Szczur was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.
Szcur, who is just 6-for-36 (.167) at the plate this season, was demoted in favor of Chris Denorfia (hamstring), who was activated from the disabled list Sunday in a corresponding move. He'll likely need another injury in the outfield to occur before seeing time in the big leagues again this season.
Tue Jun 2 201518:55Szczur recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday
Szczur was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports.
Mike Baxter was sent down, opening the door for Szczur to return for his third stint with the major league club this season. Szczur, who went 5-for-29 (.172 average) with two doubles over his previous two callup periods, will provide outfield depth with Jorge Soler nursing an ankle injury.
Sat May 16 201513:27Szczur optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday
Szczur was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports.
The Cubs needed some bullpen help after seven relievers were used in Friday's 12-inning win over Pittsburgh, so they brought up Brian Schlitter and send Szczur packing. Szczur is just 5-for-29 with two doubles and five RBI in 18 games with the big club but figures to get another opportunity in a reserve role before long.
Sat May 16 201511:03Szczur 2-7 with three RBI in 11-10 win over Pirates on Friday
Szczur went 2-for-7 with three RBI in an 11-10 win over the Pirates on Friday.
He probably didn't deserve the second hit or third RBI, as it came on a "single" that dropped when Gregory Polanco tripped. Still, it counts, and if you had Szczur in your active lineup, enjoy the free gift. He's hitting just .172 with five RBI in 29 at-bats this year.

Szczur will be called up to the Cubs on Tuesday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
This move was enabled with Chris Denorfia's (hamstring) move to the DL on Monday. Szczur already enjoyed eight appearances with the Cubs earlier in the year but may ultimately be optioned back down to Triple-A Iowa whenever Denorfia is deemed fit.

Szczur was optioned to Triple-A Iowa prior to the Cubs' game Sunday against the Padres.
With the Cubs in need of extra relief arm following Saturday's 11-inning affair, Szczur was deemed expendable. The outfielder's playing time certainly reflected as much, as he's received just 10 at-bats since making the Cubs' Opening Day roster. He'll be able to play more regularly in the minors.
Fri Apr 10 201513:14Szczur in lineup for Friday's game against Rockies
Szczur is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, ESPN Chicago reports.
Szczur, who beat out Ryan Sweeney for the final outfield spot on the Cubs' roster, will make his first start of the season Friday. He will man left field and bat sixth against Rockies starter Tyler Matzek.
Wed Apr 1 201522:26Szczur
Szczur, Ryan Sweeney, and Jonathan Herrera are battling for the final two spots on the Cubs' bench, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
The Cubs may opt to keep Szczur and Sweeney over Herrera, as Herrera is not on the current 40-man roster, and the two outfielders may be needed to cover for Chris Denorfia (hamstring) and Chris Coghlan (neck) in the early going.

Szczur (leg) played the entire game in center field Thursday against the Angels.
Szczur missed a few Cactus League games after crashing into the wall a week ago, but he seems fine now. He looks like he'll be the fifth outfielder coming out of camp, and with Chris Denorfia (hamstring) a bit banged up, he could find himself with more playing time than expected in April.

Szczur missed Wednesday's Cactus League game after crashing into the wall in Tuesday's game, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
The injury shouldn't keep Szczur out long. He has been red-hot this spring, hitting .360 with five extra-base hits - including three home runs - in 25 at-bats. He could figure into playing time with the Cubs this year, but he's more likely to play every day in Triple-A Iowa.

Szcur clubbed his second home run of the year, while going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.
As a part-time player with just 58 at-bats in 31 games, Szczur is not someone who has made much of an impression this year. In those 58 at-bats, he now has just five RBI and six runs to go with a .241/.290/.379 slash line this year.
Fri Aug 22 201409:55Szczur 1-3 Thursday, getting first big-league hit in process
Szczur went 1-for-3 Thursday, getting his first big-league hit in the process.
Szczur was once upon a time one of the most heralded prospects in the Cubs' system, but those days have long passed. He's always had a decent eye in the minors and has been able to steal bases, so he looks like he could be a serviceable fifth outfielder in the majors.
Sat Aug 16 201418:12Szczur will be called up to Cubs on Sunday
Szczur will be called up to the Cubs on Sunday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Szczur has struggled in the minors over the past few years, but he'll finally make the long-awaited jump to the Cubs on Sunday. While it's unclear what his role will be with the team, it may be best to hold off on Szczur until he's proven he can play at the highest level.
Fri Mar 8 201315:18Matt Szczur optioned
Cubs optioned OF Matt Szczur to Double-A Tennessee.
Szczur has just 35 games of experience above A-ball and didn't hit well at Double-A, so he's obviously got a ways to go. The speedster swiped 42 bags over two levels last season.
