Minnesota made the move retroactive to April 18 and recalled infielder Jorge Polanco from Triple-A Rochester. Polanco has a career major league batting average of .313 (5-for-16) with a double, a triple, four RBI and three runs scored in nine games.

3B Trevor Plouffe agreed on a one-year, $7.25 million contract on Monday to avoid arbitration. The settlement provides Plouffe with a raise of $2.45 million. He earned $4.8 million last season when he batted .244 with 22 homers and a career-high 86 RBIs.

That wouldn't be a problem except Ryan also stated he expects Miguel Sano to play regularly in the field, meaning the Twins could have a logjam at the hot corner. With that said, it seems like Plouffe could be a player to watch this offseason as the Twins might look to move their 29-year-old third baseman if the right deal arises.

Plouffe is out of Sunday against the Royals, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Plouffe will join many of the Twins' regulars on the bench Sunday, with Eduardo Nunez replacing him at third base and batting sixth.

Plouffe was held out of the lineup Sunday with an illness, but it was apparently not a major issue as he's back in the lineup Monday. He'll serve his usual third base duties and bat fifth.

Plouffe is not in Sunday's lineup against Detroit due to an illness, MLB.com reports.

Eduardo Nunez will replace Plouffe at third base. Hopefully Plouffe just needs a day off to get back to full speed.

Plouffe's hitting streak has reached 10 games, and he is on pace to match or exceed his 2015 monthly high of five homers, set back in May. The third baseman also retains a chance at matching his career-high of 24 round-trippers set in 2012, and his solo shot on Saturday catapulted him past 80 RBI for the first time in his major-league tenure.

Plouffe went 3-for-5 with two homers, three RBI and two runs in Friday's win over the White Sox.

Plouffe managed to snap a 20-game homerless streak on Friday and did so in style. He's been barely able to keep his head above the Mendoza Line over the past month, but his five homers, 13 runs and 15 RBI provide a nice trade off. Plouffe is an effective run producer, ranking fifth among third basement with 76 RBI, but deciding whether to start him will always be a matter of weighing potential power with his inability to get on base consistently.

It seems like just a standard day off for Plouffe, who has started the last eight games. Eduardo Nunez will get the start at third base and hit sixth Wednesday.

He'd gone 0-for-16 with six strikeouts over the past five games, so this was a nice bounce-back effort for Plouffe. Unfortunately, he's been stuck on 18 homers for two weeks now, with just two extra-base hits since his last homer, which came Aug. 17 in Yankee Stadium.
