Danny Espinosa (wrist) is hoping to be back in the lineup on Wednesday.
Espinosa left Sunday's game after getting plunked on the right wrist by a pitch. He doesn't have much soreness, but stiffness in the wrist will force him to sit out at least a couple games. With the Nationals having an off day Thursday, it wouldn't be surprising if he's held out until Friday.

Sat Apr 13 201316:00Espinosa hits first homer in loss
Danny Espinosa hit his first home run of the season Saturday against the Braves.
The solo shot was the only offense the Nationals could muster on the day. Espinosa was homerless over his first 40 plate appearances this season before the fifth inning blast. The 25-year-old has downplayed concerns about the health of his shoulder, but between his low batting average and his placement in the Nats' lineup, it's tough to rely on him as a top 12 option at shortstop or second base in mixed leagues.

Fri Apr 12 201323:02Espinosa hitless in four at-bats Friday
Danny Espinosa was hitless in four at-bats in Friday's loss to the Braves.
Espinosa insists that his shoulder feels fine, but he's hitting just .162 (6-for-37) with zero homers through 10 games. Of course, he's not a good bet to hit for a high batting average, anyway. Interestingly, he's only struck out six times thus far.

Sun Mar 24 201316:09Danny Espinosa hits first homer for Nats
Danny Espinosa went 3-for-3 and hit his first homer, a three-run shot off Kris Medlen, Sunday in the Nationals' 9-3 win over the Braves.
The game was stopped after seven innings due to rain. Espinosa hasn't had any setbacks with his damaged shoulder this spring, but today's homer was the first real sign of power. We're still a little down on him for this year because of the shoulder, which might end up requiring surgery later on.

Tue Mar 5 201316:32Danny Espinosa knocks in two for Nationals
Danny Espinosa went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the Nationals' 7-1 win over the Astros on Tuesday.
Espinosa is going to try to play this year with a torn rotator cuff he initially suffered last September. He's off to a nice start so far this spring, going 8-for-22. However, just one of those hits (a double) have gone for extra bases.

Sat Jan 26 201321:58Espinosa will play through torn rotator cuff
Rather than opting for surgery that could cost him to miss the first two months of the season, Danny Espinosa has decided to play through a torn left rotator cuff.
Espinosa believes that he sustained the injury diving for a ball in September. He struggled offensively over the last few weeks of the season due to the injury, but insists that he feels good now and that his swing is better than it was last year. Still, keep in mind his potential risk when calling his name on draft day.

MLB.com's William Ladson reports that Danny Espinosa has a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder.
The injury was originally described as a bone bruise in September, but more extensive damage was found in the offseason. According to Ladson, Espinosa doesn't expect to miss any time and plans to be medically cleared for the start of spring training.

Mon Nov 5 201218:31Nats could platoon at second base
Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that the Nationals "are in constant discussions" about what to do at second base next season.
The Nats love Danny Espinosa's defense, and he can offer fine production when he's hot. But, he's been very streaky and has often struggled from the left side of the plate, batting .227/.306/.393 for his career, as compared to a .276/.346/.467 line from the right side. It seems unlikely that he would be totally discarded in favor of Steve Lombardozzi, but, at the very least, Lombardozzi could start seeing more playing time against right-handed pitching.
