Tue Aug 14 2012 | 01:37 | Danny Espinosa hits 12th homer in victory |
Danny Espinosa went 4-for-6 with a homer and three RBI in the Nationals' 14-2 win over the Giants on Monday. |
Espinosa and Roger Bernadina led the way with four hits, while Steve Lombardozzi, Ryan Zimmerman and Kurt Suzuki all collected three apiece. Espinosa, Bernadina and Suzuki combined for 10 RBI from the six-through-eight spots in the lineup. Espinosa's homer was his eighth away from D.C. this year. With a .264 average and 27 extra-base hits, he's performed much better on the road than at home, where he's at .234 with 15 extra-base hits. |

Wed Aug 8 2012 | 00:11 | Espinosa's big night propels Nats to win |
Danny Espinosa went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a game-winning infield RBI single in the 12th inning to help Washington beat Houston 3-2. |
Espinosa was all the offense the Nationals needed tonight. His two-run shot in the second evened the score at 2-2. The teams didn't score again until the 12th inning, when Espinosa drove in the winning run. Espinosa has been great since the All-Star break, raising his slash line from .232/.309/.374 to .243/.310/.398. If he's languishing on the wire in your mixed league, pick him up immediately. |

Tue Jul 31 2012 | 22:04 | Espinosa goes hitless in loss to Phillies |
Danny Espinosa had a rough night in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. |
With Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche out of the lineup, Espinosa was slotted into the third spot but failed to deliver. Still, he's enjoying a decent sophomore campaign, now hitting .245 with nine home runs, 32 RBI and 16 stolen bases. |

Thu Jun 21 2012 | 22:43 | Espinosa knocks in two in win over Rays |
Danny Espinosa went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI in a 5-2 win over the Rays on Thursday night. |
Espinosa also walked and stole a base. His two-run double off Joel Peralta in the bottom of the sixth inning put the Nationals ahead for good. The 25-year-old second baseman is hitting just .232/.317/.384 through 66 games, but he has at least managed six homers and 11 stolen bases. That's good enough for him to remain relevant in deeper mixed leagues, flaws and all. |

Sun May 20 2012 | 16:59 | Danny Espinosa has big day in win |
Danny Espinosa doubled and homered in Sunday's win over the Orioles. |
One day after getting the day off on Saturday, Espinosa responded with his sixth and seventh extra-base hits of the month. Although he's still batting just .214 on the season, Espinosa has been much more productive in May than he was in April. He's worth a look in mixed leagues if a frustrated owner cut him loose. |

Sat May 12 2012 | 22:39 | Espinosa homers, swipes two in Nationals win |
Danny Espinosa homered for the second straight game Saturday, helping to lead the Nationals to a 2-1 victory over the Reds. |
Nats skipper Davey Johnson had a meeting with Espinosa before Friday's game about his struggles, and Espinosa has responded with a pair of consecutive strong performances. He finished the night 2-for-3 with the homer and also stole a pair of bases. He's only hitting .205 on the season and has struck out a whopping 40 times, but perhaps he's finally coming out of his early-season rut. |

Fri Apr 27 2012 | 18:44 | Espinosa dropped to sixth in lineup Friday |
Danny Espinosa was dropped to sixth in Friday's lineup against the Dodgers. |
Espinosa has batted second in all 17 of his starts this season, but he's hitting just .209 (14-for-67) and the Nationals are desperate for offense. Steve Lombardozzi will slide into the No. 2 spot Friday while filling in for the injured Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) at third base. |

Sun Apr 1 2012 | 16:46 | Danny Espinosa hits first spring homer |
Danny Espinosa went 2-for-4 and hit his first spring homer Sunday against the Cardinals. |
In his 70th at-bat, Espinosa finally picked up his first RBI of the spring. He's going to find his stroke, and he could be a pretty good fantasy shortstop while hitting second for the Nationals. We just think it's the whole batting-him-second idea that's the mistake. |

Sat Mar 31 2012 | 16:00 | Danny Espinosa in 0-for-10 slump |
Danny Espinosa went 0-for-4 on Saturday and is still without an RBI in 67 at-bats this spring. |
On the plus side, he never struck out today after going 0-for-6 with five strikeouts his previous two games. Espinosa, though, has had a miserable spring and is looking like a poor choice to hit second for the Nationals ahead of Ryan Zimmerman. Batting him sixth or seventh would make more sense. |

Sun Mar 25 2012 | 16:25 | Danny Espinosa goes 3-for-6 against Mets |
Danny Espinosa had three hits and three runs scored against the Mets on Sunday. |
The Nationals have kept hitting Espinosa second, even though Jayson Werth would seem to make more sense there. He entered the day with a .220/.289/.244 line and 13 strikeouts in 41 at-bats, but he was plenty good against minor leaguers in this one. |

Thu Feb 23 2012 | 14:00 | Espinosa to get a look at shortstop in spring |
Danny Espinosa will play a few games at shortstop this spring. |
The Nationals only want to see how Espinosa looks just in case Ian Desmond gets hurt during the season. This is just a hypothetical, but if Desmond missed significant time, Espinosa could slide over to shortstop and Steve Lombardozzi could potentially take his place at second base. |

Tue Sep 20 2011 | 21:59 | Espinosa goes 3-for-4 with a home run |
Danny Espinosa went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in a win during the nightcap of a doubleheader Tuesday against the Phillies. |
He's currently riding a 10-game hit streak. On the other hand, this was Espinosa's first home run of the month and he has only two stolen bases since July 9. The rookie has had an up-and-down season, but he's shown enough to be an intriguing long-term keeper. He's hitting .238/.324/.416 with 20 homers, 62 RBI and 14 steals. |

Thu Sep 8 2011 | 10:45 | Espinosa sits in first game of doubleheader |
Danny Espinosa is out of the starting lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers. |
Steve Lombardozzi is scheduled to make his first major league start at second base and bat second against left-hander Dana Eveland. Espinosa will likely be in the lineup for the nightcap, assuming the weather allows them to actually play. |

Sun Sep 4 2011 | 16:58 | Espinosa has big day in loss |
Danny Espinosa went 3-for-3 with a double, his 60th RBI and 14th stolen base in Washington's loss to the Mets on Sunday. |
The multi-hit effort was Espinosa's first in 12 games, while the stolen base was just his second since the All-Star break. A nice day, but not enough of a reason to get him back into your weekly league lineup in mixed leagues on Monday. |

Tue Aug 30 2011 | 11:07 | Espinosa doesn't want to give up playing time |
Danny Espinosa said Monday that he doesn't want to surrender any playing time to September callups. |
Specifically, infield prospect Stephen Lombardozzi, who could vulture starts at second base and shortstop down the stretch. "(Ian) Desmond and I have busted (it) all year and I think we need the opportunity to finish our years," said Espinosa. We've worked too hard and we've played every single game. We're two young ballplayers. It's not like we're two older guys that are on the way out or something." Teams tend to like competitive personalities, so it's doubtful Desmond faces any type of punishment. |
